@@joechrow8341 No, I wouldnt myself rank Gentlemen among the all-time greats due to the fact he just didnt accomplish quite enough nor do it in the biggest races or on quite the biggest stages. But talent-wise, he is most certainly among the most gifted and brilliant horses of the last 30 years. This was a top horse in Argentina, a winner of 3 group 1s, who when he first came to the US was very impressive on turf, dominating in two graded turf events. Then they put him on dirt in the gr3 Native Diver and he aired with a 118 Beyer. He then beats reigning BC Classic champ, Alphabet Soup, in the gr2 San Antonio with a 116. He came up short in the stretch of his first time going 10furlongs on dirt in North America, running 3rd to his stablemates Siphon and Sandpit in the Santa Anita Handicap. While Mandella sent the other two to run 2-3 in the Dubai World Cup, he gave Gentlemen more time refining his skills as a classic dirt horse. The result was a breathtaking trio of races led off by this performance that are as good as any 3 race streak by any other horse the last 3 decades. 126 Beyer here going 1mile 3/16, a 121 Beyer when easily avenging that earlier defeat to Siphon and Sandpit at 10furlongs in the Hollywood Gold Cup, and then another 121 again dispatching Siphon at 10f in the Del Mar Pacific Classic. At that point he was 12 for 16 for his career, with 7 North American graded wins, 3 grade 1s, with those 3 other S American group 1s. He was never quite the same after that although on his B game he could still push an all-time great like Skip Away, when that horses was on a 9 race win streak, in races like the Hollywood Gold Cup of 98', the Woodward, and finished ahead of him in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. In person he was as smooth a mover, and effortlessly fast as any Ive seen.
@@joechrow8341 if Mandela just let him roll that’s why he started losing to skip awayThis is the fastest race of the decade. Guess you didn’t know that and I made 18k on gentleman during his life won’t count maliks win in the SAH when they dump the race
Skippy and Gentlemen in the same race - I missed this one. Loved them.
That Gentleman was underrated. Skip Away got revenge on their next clash.
126 speed figure for this race
Who has run a 126 beyer in the last 5 years?
Gentlemen was one of the best who ever stepped on a track.
Oh lord...He certainly was not
