Just going to slide this in: For whatever reason we decided it would be best if I didn't have game audio. I don't know why this was decided. However, I have absolutely no excuse for screwing up that glide. It felt like a typical marathon luck moment, considering the most time it took during practice was 15 seconds. But GG Dime, fun race!
Vortale lost the game mainly because of the yellow key barrier. I think he was at the wrong angle and position. Dime's rocket jump in Dead Simple was impressive.
Vortale might have won if he didn't waste over 2 minutes trying to clip through the yellow barrier. After 30 seconds or so he should have said screw it and just did it the normal way.
Vortale started crying a little bit at the end, claiming handicaps and such, but his own mistake was failing the yellow and not choosing to save time after 10-20 secs by doing the level normally.
I checked in my HUGE dictionary that I won from taking part on an episode of Countdown here in the UK, and it turns out 'gantlet' IS an actual word! The dictionary just defines it as 'the US spelling of gauntlet'
From the grammarist.com: Gantlet vs. gauntlet Gantlet was the original spelling of the word referring to a form of punishment in which people armed with sticks or other weapons arrange themselves in two lines and beat a person forced to run between them. It came from the earlier English word gantlope, which in turn comes from the Swedish gatlopp.1 Gauntlet is an alternative spelling of gantlet, but it also has several definitions of its own, mostly related to gloves. Gantlet was the preferred spelling in early use of the phrase run the gauntlet-meaning to suffer punishment by gantlet or to endure an onslaught or ordeal-but gauntlet prevailed by the 18th century. Today, most writers use gauntlet, though gantlet, which is especially common in American English, is not incorrect. The phrase throw down the gauntlet, meaning to issue or accept a challenge, uses gauntlet in its glove-related sense. It derives from the practice among medieval knights of challenging each other to duels by throwing down their gauntlets. So gantlet does not work as an alternative spelling here.
53:37 shows how tricks are trully done :D, vortale really lost here simply cause of his lack of setups in some of his tricks, 38:53 he just randomly moves the mouse hoping he gets the right angle when that's something you should look for before the actual run.
Vortale was at a major disadvantage which was he had no audio, meaning he missed all the audio cues. He did not win, but even being ahead of Dime by 4 maps should be taken for what its worth
Alex3D666 In any modern source port for Doom you can set parameters to mimic Nightmare; e.g. fast monsters, without having to have respawning monsters.
I stumbled across the site and have loved it ever since...Seeing Kaleb Heart play mega man X...still blown away...its like yeah...you thought you were good lol...
Ouch Face? Sorry, too busy watching the actual gameplay and how they're running the level. Michael Jordan had some weird faces, when he was dunking from the free-throw line.
Nightmare mode is actually EASIER for a speedrun because in nightmare you get double ammo. The catch is that the monsters respawn, but these guys go so quickly that playing nightmare essentially just makes the game easier by giving too much ammo. Keep in mind, I'm not actually an expert, but I'm 99% sure that's why.
machineofadream Ah I see. But I noticed in the DOOM speedrun even they were getting stuck from moving, respawning enemies would be a nightmare on a narrow style map with 1 hit deaths because you would be forced to clear the way.
LysanderTK You're probably right. I thought the major gimmick with nightmare was mostly the respawns, which wouldn't affect a good speed run very much since 99% of the enemies would never get a chance to respawn before they were done with the room. However, having double BFG ammo might change some rooms a lot for the better, no? In any case, I am just guessing here, assuming they aren't choosing UV simply because it's "easier", but probably because it's a Doom convention that most people just play UV.
***** i think nightmare monsters are 3x as fast and attack 3x faster, respawn timer is somewhat random and you do have to revisit some areas of maps. it is way way more dangerous than ultraviolence.
Nightmare isn't really played nearly as seriously in the doom community. UV is the most commonly played difficulty. UV -Fast if you want nightmare without double ammo or respawns. One thing that's very very important in Doom and the community is map design. Enemy placement and health and ammo pickups are all scrutinized very heavily and in the original maps the balance they strike is considered very, very important. Nightmare ignores that balance by changing the way the game is played dramatically, so it is not considered the exemplar of the game's excellent design.
console is beter man, voltare got fucked up on that yellow door... he needed the KEY!!! anyone else screaming at their screens on this one, lol?? I remember playing Doom when I was a kid when you go to the doors with the colors like that you need a special key to go through them. They aren't like the other doors. Well, good luck to him in the future. Next time look for the key that color corresponds with the door you are stuck at (red = red key, yellow = yellow key, blue = blue key... remember this)
gayfuckoffyoutub1000 He knew that, he was trying to clip through it as to not need the key. But he tried it for like 2-3 minutes, after 30 seconds he should have gave up
gayfuckoffyoutub1000 Firstly, how is console better? You get more in the PC with full mod support and cheats to make fucking around more fun. Secondly, everyone knows how keys and coloured doors work. You're not the only person to have solved the riddle of the coloured doors. (How else do you think they got that far?) Especially speedrunners. They know everything about the game. You're literally giving tips for people that have never played video games before.
You mean compared to Looper, he is the fastest when it comes to Doom II UV full game speedruns. And this run is almost 10 years old, Dime inspired Zero to speedrun Doom.
i don't understand these ppl, they are allowed to save anywhere, and yet they don't abuse it before they do attempt risky moves. they do it sometimes but most of the time they prefer to restart the whole level if they mess up vile demon jump or rocket jumps. I just don't get it.
you aren't allowed to save for compedetive speedrunning of this game. They obviously do so they won't have an estimate of 20 hours but I guess they want to keep a bit of their doom compedetive pride by not abusing it too much.
Blantantly fixed the game for dime to win. Vortale was kicking his ass and couldn't get through the yellow gate. Dime got through first time. Total bullshit man
1. The only key difference for speedrunning between ultra-violence and nightmare is respawning monsters, which just wastes time in a speedrun sense. 2. You don't do speed-runs of the game. 3. Why don't you try doing nightmare without mods for once? 4. Stop acting like you're top shit for playing nightmare. You really aren't that special.
lifeafterdeath888 Notice how I said "Only key difference" of course there's other factors, but the only one that makes a difference for SPEEDRUNNING is the respawning monsters. If you knew anything about speedrunnning, you'd know that just wastes time. No one likes to waste time on a speedrun. And so what, they shoot faster. It really isn't that much more challenging. Again: Stop acting like you're top shit for playing nightmare; you aren't that special.
***** the only difference is monster respwaning? have you ever played NM mode? there's like absolutely no comparison between NM and UV, even for speedrunning. ennemies shoot/ move faster and pinky demons are so fast and unpredictable that they can ruin your run by blocking your way. 13Olish Yes, I've played Nightmare, and I haven't noticed much drastic. The only thing I really noticed was respawning monsters. And I'll say it again: For speedrunning the other differences don't mean much, even with the pinky demons running faster it doesn't mean much. Maybe in some areas it might be more apparent, but since a lot of tricks involve skipping enemies and sequence breaking, it overall means nothing.

But GG Dime, fun race!
They always have audio on the leader. I would imagine things get a bit odd with overlapping audio so they just have the leader set for it.
@@hfcobra Thanks for replying 5 years later.
As me and my droogs were getting ready for a bit o' the ol' ultraviolence.
If video games caused violence these guys would be the most dangerous people on the planet
They are only a big danger to Cancer.

i play alot of vilolence game , but my mom still call me soft
run starts at 16:40
Thanks for that Info.

THank you!!

+JD Rock
Vortale probably would have won, except the computer was being a bitch for some reason.
Got so annoyed at Dime's arrogance claiming he could probably get 36.
@@SkyrillaIsnt his PB at 30 minutes at this point?
Doom 2 is such a genius game to race with! there are so many possibilities and different strategies that makes it so interesting.

I stumbled across this site as recommended videos via AVGN and CGR, these runs rule!
Still probably my favorite game to see speedrun. Just mayhem and carnage, and near-death escapes.
16:40 friends~
La mejor batalla de Speedruners que he visto! ... Tantas horas de juego y reiniciós en Doom II y alguien lo termina en 38:17 Simplemente asombroso.

Very well-done.
Unfortunately, such a well though-out post is wasted in TH-cam's comment section. :(
Man this game.was my childhood on my windows 98 lol
Suckas to the side, I know ya hate my 98
I love AGDQ race runs because in the end everyone is a winner~
Sweet, I only came across this as a related video thing, very glad I did those are some impressive runs
this might be a stupid question but do they play with wsad or the arrows? and i assume they dont use a mouse as well.
+TJCombo2 In general Doom is best played with a keyboard AND mouse. You can't really "circle-strafe" otherwise.
Wobbo thx for the answer. i was thinking about it since i wanna try to speed run through it as well but need the optimal settings u know ^^
Are they unable to edit these videos, I keep seeing ones that don't start for several minutes, but this one breaks the 15 minute mark.
I don't know what criteria he uses but there's plenty of people who watch the set-ups.
Not me tho lol
They almost always have an in-video link to the run start.
Above all, I love Dime's reaction at the end. "You know what I will match that 100 dollars too!"
The guy on the right lost 2 minutes trying to get through the bars in Nirvana. He would have won if he had just skipped that part.
Great speedrun (race) and awesome with the donation at the end :)
i stumbled on to AGDQ as well. SGDQ do be exact
38:53 and 40:51
That was the key moment of the video. -> 40:51

Meh. People were blabbing loudly over Dime's gameplay, and Vortale struggled mightily with the later levels. It was fair.
+ he wasted his 3 level lead on 1 glitch
When you're doing a speedrun like this, you mostly block out other sounds because you're so focused
Dime is a MONSTAH!
I love it when they say that a trick looks "really cool".
Shame so few people were out to watch this fun race of a classic game. Must of had a bad time slot.
Awwww, Doom 2, the 32 levels
Think in Deus vult or Plutonia 2 speedruns
Ok, ok, Deus vult is a gruesome map with longest level design
we need an event in australia! still watching speed runs after the marathon :P
