Luckily the test was negative and the x-ray revealed I just have Bronchitis. It still sucks though cause I can't take prednisone like I usually would for my breathing issues. Reason being, it weakens your immune system. -_-

My discharge papers had the diagnosis "unspecified type of pneumonia."

Good. The hospitals don’t have the time or resources to hold your hand when you have a head cold. If you aren’t dying or serious (and it sounds like you’re not) then don’t take up space for the people who are actually dying...

1 - Myself, and three others I personally know did require medical treatment. My friend's father, being one of them, died last Wednesday. None of us were tested.
2 - Even if states were testing more than .1% of the population, which they are not, logically one shouldn't have to go to to the hospital to do so, being as that so many places on Earth have the capacity to do it in a drive through, or by doing door-to-door swabs.
3 - Your snide, callous reply is completely unnecessary.

We think I have a mild case, but I've been denied testing. Today I had a 20 minute period where I was smelling very a very intense ocean/seaweed smell while watching a video of someone cooking with kombu. It was so strong I could taste it if I inhaled with my mouth open and most of that 20 minutes was after I turned the video off. It was bizarre, I should have been smelling and tasting corn, but nope intense, slightly muddy seaweed.

As someone else with allergies, I will also say that not ALL of us can tell. Some people have that tell-tale symptom or combo. Others, like me, are allergic to so many different things with so many different symptoms we can’t keep track of them. The skin allergies are pretty easy, but eyes and respiratory are the hardest, since those will often act up more when I’m sick. Plus, RAD makes it impossible to tell if I’m coughing because I’m sick, because I’m allergic, because the relative humidity is too high, or because I choked on water 12 hours ago and my system is still inflamed. I just think it’s important to recognize that not every person with “allergies” has the same experience.

That very same night i got major shivers, sore body, felt cold, and fever. But the very next morning all symptoms were gone except for the sore body which lasted most of the next day. Here's my two cents:
Girlfriend had diarrhea for a couple of days, developed a dry cough, then lost her sense of smell. She had the dry cough and loss of smell/taste for 2 weeks, had chills, body aches for a few days, and headache. She's in the 3rd week now but feeling better. This week, I started showing similar symptoms. Started with a dry cough for 3 days and then on the 4th it all hit me like a brick. Wild body aches, throbbing headache, nausea, weak limbs, worsening cough, bit of shortness of breath, and a tightness and sharp pain in my chest. Doc said I probably have covid but the logistics of getting tested here in NY are a nightmare. My cardiologist even said not to worry about a test (talk about skewing the data though). Both told me to self-isolate for 14 days.
I'm mentioning all of this to let you know that the symptoms are indeed all over the place. Some of the symptoms you mentioned only occurring in children or very rarely in adults have manifested in my girlfriend and I and now in a few more of our friends (all in our 20's). Maybe the doctors were wrong and it's not covid, but it likely is, given we've been in the city every single day.
In my personal opinion, the data on the virus is absolutely primitive right now. Within two weeks we should hopefully have a more fleshed out understanding of it, but even then I doubt it.
    UPDATE: Tested positive for COVID.
Also, forgot to mention this before, but the first symptoms for me were akin to a sinus infection and lasted for about 4 days before getting better for 2 days and then getting absolutely SLAMMED all at once by the rest of the symptoms. Hope this helps!

Of the 23 people I personally know that have/had it, including myself and my household of 4...we all had identical base symptoms with a few having additional symptoms not experienced by all. The one thing we all had in common was not a single one had sinus congestion/runny nose. So if you have that...I would suspect something else first.
Also, all have said that while the symptoms are common with other illnesses, we all thought it felt like a weird/different/bizarre/off/abnormal cold/flu. It swept through our area before there were known cases so Covid-19 wasn't really on our radar.
We all had the same base symptoms including dry cough & fever that spiked high and fast but oddly leveled off between 102-103 without continuing to rise. Next, came the pounding headache that felt very similar to my migraines minus the accompanying aura/nausea and it too hit hard and fast and just hovered at 1000 degrees of awful, whereas a migraine is a slow build, peak, slow release. Covid hit the ground running with all symptoms which is one of the things that made it so abnormal for most of us. Finally, the extreme fatigue, that again hit full force and was unlike any fatigue we have felt with other illnesses.
I slept an average of 20 hrs a day and still felt on the verge of collapse/sleep every waking minute, and getting up for the bathroom was about the extent of my capabilities. Even getting up for food seemed like way too much effort so when my illness and my hubby's overlapped, there were several days when we both ate next to nothing because we were simply too tired to get up to get something.
Everyone in my circle recovered without complication except me. I developed pneumonia that is still hanging around and is not at all a welcome companion. I'm now being told to expect some degree of permanent lung damage when it's all over...but I'm still alive so I guess it could be worse!
Also, I'm the only one who lost their sense of smell, and while I could still taste, everything just tastes wrong. It isn't continuous, it comes and goes randomly and doesn't seem to correspond with my main symptoms relapses.

As a physician with a background in epidemiologist and Public Health, I was impressed with this video above many, many others. Just a few comments:
    1. As noted at the end, there is no one symptom or set of symptoms that can perfectly rule in or rule out COVID-19. This is actually very common in medicine, and few people have “classic” versions of a condition (for example, most people who die of carbon dioxide poisoning don’t have the cherry red coloring seen in murder mysteries, etc.)
    2. All medical tests have both a false negative, as noted, and a false positive rate. That is why those with mild symptoms may not get one of the limited COVID -19 tests, as in any case, you would will likely still be asked to self isolate and not spread either the cold, possible COVID infection to others. Clearly, seek care if your symptoms become severe.
    3. As stated, the bulk of the data summarized here is from China, and the US is a new population exposed to a novel virus, so we can’t presume it is 100% predictive. Please also note that these initial data were gathered in great haste and in epidemics throughout history, there can be political pressures to make the outbreak appear less severe. In the opinion of many, the early message that young people essentially weren’t at risk on some media was unfortunate and has proven incorrect in the US population.
A video or comment can never be medical advice, but although I don’t have the voice or other resources to prepare a well-done video like this, i would be happy to volunteer a quick look-thru or anything else to assist (I would be happy to forward my credentials) with future epidemiology or COVID videos.

I'm young and healthy, and we should take this on a case-by-case basis. If your symptoms are mild, stay at home to be safe and don't overburden our healthcare system if it's not necessary.

The "how infections work" thing I believe is about how the body raises its temperature to deal with an infection. That is, your fever is the body raising its temperature on purpose to hinder the virus and help the immune system work more energetically. Taking ibuprofin or Tylenol to lower your temp then might hinder your immune response, lengthening the infection and increasing your chances for complications or a bacterial infection. So, take that as you will.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I did think it was the flu, but it was different from any flu I’ve had, and I though the gastro stuff made no sense. Our kids never got sick, which was a relief. Oh and that isn't even the best part! Once I've been awake long enough my eyes and nose do their part to remind me I'm not allowed to touch my face in a way that really makes it impossible to forget they're there! I wish we could study those who had "very mild symptoms" but tested positive to try to find out WHY their bodies handled this virus so well and also study those who reacted very poorly to the virus to figure out why their body reacted like it did. The information from such might be able to shed more light on the topic and help researchers in the future and maybe even make it possible to figure out who will react poorly to similar viruses so they can be monitored more closely when we eventually have the next big virus similar to this one. For me personally, the typical flu virus is handled swiftly and my symptoms are usually very mild with maybe a day or two of sniffles and a mild fever. However, the H1N1 of 2010 almost killed me. Raging fever, chills, pain everywhere, unable to eat or drink, and it lasted three weeks (during which I lost about sixty pounds). It took months to recover fully from that. I have no idea why my body reacted the way it did with H1N1 but reacts like it does with the flu. I "might" have even had the coronavirus a few months back without even realizing it. At the time there was a week where I felt horrible, nagging cough, and mild fever. This was out of my norm for the flu but I assumed it was probably just a bad flu (for me). I got it from my roommate who got it from his sister. Both of them were hit hard. However, this was a time when this virus wasn't confirmed in my state so I wasn't really even thinking about that. I self-isolated, as I typically do when sick and was over it in about a week. I still wonder though if that was this virus or something else.

There was a theory put out by a Doctor on BBC Radio a few weeks back it may be down to exposure to other coronavirus types. There’s 6 already known to affect humans, 4 are so widespread they are in continuous circulation as common colds meaning most adults will have been exposed to most/all of them in their lives. It’s possible exposure to one of those acts like a Trojan horse for Covid19 creating a poorer immune response. Most young children won’t have been infected by the other four whilst the older you get the more likely you are to have been exposed to all four. It was just a theory but the reasoning made sense.

This actually helped a lot. Reviewing the symptoms even though I know them. I have a low fever which always makes me feel pretty crummy. But with everything going on? Yeah, anxiety latched onto that and I spent hours just curled up in a ball of panic. Thankfully I do not feel so rotten today. There are a thousand reasons you might see a temporary spike in your temperature and I know that, I really do, but having been worried for weeks already and now straight up terrified as my state is also (finally) on lockdown...

The reported prevalence of symptoms is all over the place and still inaccurate. The incidence of fevers in actual infected patients is probably much lower than reported, as people with fevers appear to be given priority for testing. Digestive symptoms and loss of smell and taste are certainly more prevalent.
Examples from my three-person office: 1. Shortness of breath and chest tightness; severe muscle aches; body chills without elevated temperature; congestion; dry cough; sore throat; loss of energy; intestinal distress; loss of sense of smell and taste. 2. Briefly elevated temperature; chills; congestion; dry cough; sore throat; loss of energy; intestinal distress and nausea; loss of smell and taste; mild headaches. Did not experience shortness of breath. 3. (Me) dry cough; mild headaches; very mild reduction in energy levels; chest tightness with shortness of breath; very mild nocturnal congestion; some evidence of mild nausea;secondary ear infection.
In all three cases, fever was either mild and brief or completely absent. Two of us experienced noticeably reduced lung capacity. Abdominal symptoms were present. Two lost all sense of smell and taste. All experienced sore throat, which some experts have claimed is not a symptom. No sneezing, and limited or no runny nose. These symptoms have been borne out in comparisons among our informal group of positive and symptomatic individuals. More focus should be placed on chest tightness and breathing difficulties, which are caused bu mucous buildup in the lungs that can lead to pneumonia, and less focus should be placed on fevers as a diagnostic criterion.

This last sensation became more prevalent as the tightness grew and included a burning sensation in the back of the throat. These sensations seem to be most intense while lying down. Hope this helps.
