Luna Lapin by machine - 4 Legs

  • Today it's the turn of Luna's legs. I've had requests for how I fit the foot pads and so I've tried to capture the process I use so that you can replicate it using your machine. This is a fiddly part of constructing Luna so take your time, take a break if you need it, and you should be able to get great results. I think that with practice it is possible to get even better results than I have in the video, and I have in the past, but it's a while since I made Luna so I was a bit rusty.
    The books containing the patterns for Luna and friends, felt and other supplies plus character kits and supplies are available directly from the designer and the home of Luna at www.coolcrafting.co.uk

    This is so helpful, Claire, thank you!! Where have you been my whole life? I've always struggled with the footpads; now I know not to attempt sewing the pad in one go, but stitch it in two halves. THANK YOU!! xoxo

    Thank you Claire, your videos are helping me so much. My first Luna and your tutorials are fantastic! I am going extra slow as you suggested with the foot pad. But, as I am turning my first leg out, I hear that horrible sound ‘rrrrrrip’. My skewer went through my leg fabric 😢 oh dear.

      Hi Sabi, thank you for watching and I’m pleased you’ve enjoyed the videos. Oh no!! Is your Luna’s leg save-able or did you need to cut a new one? Don’t be disheartened as I am guessing it’ll be the only time that happens to you now you know it’s really easy to do 🥰 I hope you love your Luna when she’s finished. Have you noticed I have a TH-cam group now for sewing support? The link is in my page header picture if you have Facebook? Happy stitching! 😊

      I just finished Luna’s legs, as I decided to cut another. I will keep the leg with the ripped fabric as a momento, of when I began my Luna journey. Truly, I just couldn’t do this without your excellent videos. You are amazing. Thank you so much. Yes I am following your fb 😊

    Thank you I’m a visual learner and watching your video’s have made making Luna so much easier for me. Roughly how far from the top does your stuffing stop. x

      Hi Colleen, I'm so pleased the videos have helped.
      Regarding the legs, I tend to overstuff the lower part of the leg, then I put in a pin holding the stuffing away from the top of the leg at approx 1" from the open top. The pin holds the stuffing down whilst I stitch the legs into the body. (Be careful not to stab yourself with the pin whilst you are sewing!) When I remove the pin I can massage the stuffing up to the top of the leg, where it is sewn into the body, and this makes it all even. I hope that makes sense, let me know if not.
      I'll be making some clothes videos after May so keep your eyes open for those too. Thank you for your feedback - it's lovely to receive! Have a great day! 🥰

    Is that the stuffing from coolcrafting? I could not order the stuffing since they don't ship it to the US. What would you recommend?

    • @ClaireEngland1
      @ClaireEngland1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Julie, no it isn’t as I couldn’t get any shipped to Spain where I live. Instead I found some polyester fibre-fill at a upholstery shop where they also make cushions and I used that. It worked really well but I’m not sure it would pass any safety standards for toys. I hope that helps! Happy stitching 🥰

    Do you allow extra for seam allowance, very helpful videos

    • @ClaireEngland1
      @ClaireEngland1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deanne, yes, I add 1/4 inch along each long leg piece but nothing at the top and the at the foot pad. I'm so pleased the videos are helpful to you, thank you for watching. Happy stitching! 🥰

      @deannelester748 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ClaireEngland1 sorry to bother you again, is that for all pattern pieces to add 1/4 seam allowance

    • @ClaireEngland1
      @ClaireEngland1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deanne, if you look at this video it might give you some extra help th-cam.com/video/hMTAgTjFGII/w-d-xo.html
      The pattern pieces in the book are drafted for hand sewing in felt with the small seams on the outside, but because I sew in ordinary fabric and sew them in my machine I add 1/4inch to all the pieces (except ears and feet edges) that way the fabric won’t fray and create holes and my machine can sew a comfortable 1/4 in seam and feel strong. Does that help? I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have too. Starting is the hardest part but once you’ve made one, you’ll want to make more 🥰 Happy stitching!

    Could you tell me what stuffing you use please.

    • @ClaireEngland1
      @ClaireEngland1  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Jen, thank you for watching my video snd for your question. You can buy CE certified stuffing that is specifically for characters that are going to be for children. It’s available from all the usual online places I suspect. However, as I couldn’t find any of that here in Spain, plus my toys are not played with by children, so I found a local upholstery shop that sells polyester fibre-fill by weight. 10 euros buys me a big bag. It’s the same filling as you’d find inside a hollow-fibre quilt or a cushion pad. It works really well for me so I hope you have a similar shop near you. I hope that helps and happy stitching! 🥰

    Interesting. Find you saying what “I want you to do” very rude and condescending.

      Hi Linda, thank you for your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your thoughts. You might want to skip the rest of my videos as I suspect I say this quite often - of course whilst not intending to be rude and condescending in any way at all. Have a great day!

      If you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all.
