Great video. I took the door apart and realized I needed a bracket that was a special order, 1 week delivery. Saw this and was able to finish the same day.
Thank you SO much for this video! Me and my father replaced the fronts in my '02 civic that have pretty much seized up. We didn't have a hole saw that big but did use a jigsaw. Saved a few $ on brackets that would have involved drilling into the door. Installed a set of Pioneer 3 ways and what night and day difference! The extra tweeters in the sail panels were rendered useless by the new Pioneers. :)
Saw another where they dremeled most of the frame away but the outside ring; this seems much better. Still a lot more work than I was expecting to replace 15 year old speakers ... but most of my experience is replacing them in 80s and 90s cars. Good video, great idea, I like the idea of keeping the stock mounting solution :D
Great to see that. I have seen comments on the Civic Forums about the depth. You must have verified that the door panel will go back on. I have seen comments that the speaker can't be deeper (taller) than 2-1/2". I have to remove the OEM ones and verify if the ones I have will fit. Great video tho.
Did the mounting holes on the speakers line up exactly with the inside ridge of the bracket or did you angle your screws? I also have some 6.5" pioneers and the holes are just off a little bit. About 3/4 of the hole is over the plastic ridge, but there is a little gap on each one toward the inside.
Great video. The brackets make it tricky for any aftermarket speakers. Instead of re-wiring the speaker, just buy speaker harness (clips on). Couple of bucks (Bestbuy n Walmart), made specifically for Honda.
Thanks for the video! But tell me, why cut the original connector of the car when you could have used it just soldering the new speaker's wires into the original male connector? Greetings from Brazil!
I could not align mine to fit into the plastic to screwed them on, I just used my magic stick glue gun, very easy and it is siting real tight there. I've only cut the extra behind with a Dremel. It will never get off of the plastic frame.

Very unique job man..my two door speakers on my 02 civic need to be replace.
hey nice video so helpful but i have to ask what's the tool you used to drill the old factory speaker and where i can buy one?
This video helped me do the job. Thanks!

Thanks for this. It looks super clean too.

Great video craftsmanship
good shit! just did this! came out successful!
Thanks for the video! But tell me, why cut the original connector of the car when you could have used it just soldering the new speaker's wires into the original male connector? Greetings from Brazil!
late reply.. but it's called a hole saw.
Thanks for the vid. What size hole saw did you use?
Awesome. It looks so clean.
Genius, genius. Thanks!
Thank you now time to replace my doors speakers 🔊 with 6.5
is this the same procedure for the 2004 Honda civic ex? and whats the size for the front speakers on the 04 civic ex?
should i do the same on the rear? btw i have a sedan
Do u have a video for the speakers in the rear? I have a 2002 coupe
So how do you know which is the positive and negative wires? Is it on the factory wire harness?
the wires have either red or black line on them

You can take the door panel off thats what im considering then you wont have any depth issues
What size of the speakers are those? 5 1/4 or 6 1/2?
6 1/2
Thanks!
What size is the speaker. 5.25 or 6.5
I looked up the speaker model. TS-G1644R. It is a 6.5" speaker. I haven't installed one yet but it looks like a great fit by the video.
this was genius i would never thing to do this
They do sell mounting brackets for this, but this is good if you are on a budget and the original mount is not broken.
You could take the door panel off and make your own thats what im considering.
What about the wires??
DYI Video
you should never cut your factory harnesses off. ever heard of Metra harnesses? plug and play
