Brudiclad is an awesome commander for creating an army of beastly creatures, even some of the smaller ones, I once made an army chief of the foundrys that all gave each other +1/+1
I ran an Omnath deck once, my favorite finisher was Blade of Selves, in a 4 player match it would result in 20 lightning bolts when you attacked due to the Legendary Rule and all 5 Omnath's seeing each other.
omg teysa brings back memory's. my friends built sliver commander decks full of indestructible slivers and this compleatly counterd it. at one point i started boardwiping to kill my stuff just to exile there stuff.
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun is my favourite by far. I always love it when my unblockable marit large token kills one of my opponents. Also the fact that he is a token commander that wants to go big instead of wide makes him very unique.
I've been watching the channel for a little while like the love you give to prossh, he's the first commander deck I bought/built and it's my favorite deck
My main commander deck is ghave, and while I only have one combo (geralfs messenger, ghave, ashnods altar) it gets pretty dumb when playing with +1/+1 counters and saprolings simultaneously, it goes wide and big, but my turn takes like 15 minutes minimum because of all the counters I move and allocate
Another great sorcery to play with Rhys the Redeemed is Nomads' Assembly: 4ww Create a 1/1 white Kor Soldier creature token for each creature you control. Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)
Or killing people with perpheros or warstorm surge. I pretty much can't play this deck in my grp anymore. It's basically KoS as soon as I pull it out. I don't even have any of the evil combos. Just big mana and lots o critter makers.
Right I love my marath deck, I do the cathars crusade and ivy lane denizen. My only double is hardened scales but I'll usually win the same as you. I only hate the deck cuz of all the 1/1 counters I put on things
For Tarland, tokens are not the main strategy but just a very nice to have: mono-blue will by its own nature play o lot of instant and sorcery to achieve other strong benefits (drawing cards, countering stuff, bouncing stuff, whatever other crazy thing blue does), if every time one gets a flyers on the battlefield as a bonus, it sounds like a very good deal to me. Similar point for the Locus God, which not only interacts with one of the strongest effects of blue (card-draw), but is also a great way to spend available with its activate ability, giving card selection + tokens. The facts that its tokens have flying and most importantly haste is not to be underestimated. Then again, since they are not commanders that normally see tokens as plan A, I can guess why you did not rank them higher.
Hey hey hey, woah there void. Ghoulcaller gisa is a tank in the commander position for a token deck. There are so many artifacts for great support and then Kalitas could also be in 99
I feel like The Scarab-God should be on this list too. He creates tokens and synergizes very well with them and while he is not a 100% token commander he makes for a pretty damn good one!
Oh man I hated playing against that deck in standard. So much so I can't build him as a commander because I'm too hurt. There's no undoing what the scarab god did to me
3:00 But, like often in Commander, you can and you should try to convert bugs into features. The good thing about the tokens coming a turn later is that you can get rid of Hazezon before the tokens arrive (okay, you could that in response to a normal ETB trigger as well, but hey, he's at least a good blocker!). The good thing about exiling all the Sand Warriors when Hazezon goes is that you can use that as removal by giving your opponent's creatures the types sand warrior, e.g. with Shields of Velis Vel.
Gisa is fantastic. There are a ton of zombie lords in mono black, there's also metallic mimic and coat of arms. Cards like junkyo bell allow you to make stupid numbers of zombies, and the thornbite staff/phyrexian altar combo is a ton of fun
Marrow gnawer is super fun, basically the black version of krenko mob boss and rats in my opinion is more interesting then goblins. black is just a super awesome color to work with as well
Sliver queen and she all five colors so you can have all the Token producing creatures and with the sliver stone turn all creatures in to sliver and have all the sliver abilities in play you will have one unstoppable army
wow prossh is only a dollar too. Personally i will add black, red, or blue depending on the commander but ill never build a token deck without white and green. It helps that i already have anointed procession, paralell lives, primal vigor, and picked up a play set of doubling seasons back in the day during kamigawa when they were 5 dollars each.
There are some mistakes in this video, for example black sun's Zenith would only give you one token with hapaira because it says "whenever you put one or more" and also you suggested a U/B creature for a mono black commander
@@jiralishu fresh meat, its situational but can be a game winner. Nothing else. Last major upgrade was a lands package, crop rotation, map, to get utility lands like strip mine, maze, and glacial chasm. Amazing how often u need to survive one turn, and glacial chasm does that.
I play prosh as a token commander though I feel dirty every time I play. I prefer to over run with 1/1s then just one hit K.O. With prosh. Though I have been dabating on running korvold as the comander taking out food chain and just have prosh as one of the 99 as that seems a bit more fair to me.
Not trying to complain but how did Marath, Will of the Wild not make it on the list or honorable mention? would like to know how close it came, I love my Marath deck.
Certainly seems like a good list. I'm extremely biased here but I find Queen Marchesa to be a solid token commander. Someone always tries to take the monarchy so you can always let them have it. Deathtouch tokens with access to red are just ridiculous. Warstorm Surge, Stalking Vengeance, and others make them really silly. I haven't gotten to do it yet but I also added Vraska Scheming Gorgon, I'm really looking forward to that ult. Probably pull her from the deck after I do it though, too big of a target once people see it go off.
I feel like Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter is underrated. Just run some ramp + plus token gen = massive X/X tokens very quickly. Great for budget EDH.
Marath, Will of the Wild? I know you had a shitton of disclaimers but he likes Food Chain as much as Prosh.... Just curious post video what your thoughts are. Oh, and giving him deathtouch and killing everything is hillarious. :) Great list anyways. Krenko, Tristania, Prosh, Edgar (tribal/life gain tho) and maybe Ghave/Hipatra (i want more of a -1/-1 deck) all on the to do list. Omnath is in my Marath deck and Rhys is on my upgrade list for that deck....
I like your insight. However, you often show good cards that would be great, but they are the wrong color for the commander. You did this in another Commander top 10. You did it with a blue card and Rhys...at about 8:30 or so.
No Marrow-Gnawer? He is Krenko but better in every way bc he also gives all the rats he spawns Fear. The only effort you have to make is making sure you have 3 rats on the field when you pop his ability, not hard in a Rat tribal deck. Ink-Eyes, Pestilence Rats, Swarm of Rats, he has a lot of options
Void sir what katlias, traitor of ghet? Something with grave pack or diction of ebos is amazing and sac those zombies he makes to pump him up Great duel thread Commander kill or go wide
Wait a sec, does parrallel lives and anointed proccession trigger one another??? Someone plz explain! And does this have the same effect with doubling season?
What about Docent of Perfection? It's very similar to Talrand, Sky Summoner except its stronger and has when it flips over your wizards gain a slight buff
I know you left it out because he doesnt make tokens but Thromok is the best token commander..... play him as big as your strongest opponent then fling or mageslayer and tons of direct damage cards...
My personal favorite token commander has to be.... The Sarab God. So, the Scarab God is not your traditional token commander. It doesn't have access to white, it doesn't have access to green. So Why would this strange commander be my favorite token commander? Well, Scarab has internal synergy with its tokens. During your upkeep you drain all your foes and scry X equal to the zombies. Since the tokens are all zombies this is good synergy. The other advantage of Scarab God is that if you are using a self mill or raw mill strategy you don't have to play many creatures in your deck. You could just steal the opponent's creatures from their yard while controlling the match. It also works wonders with processors. Process a creature you exiled of your opponents and proceed to produce multiples of your opponent's best thing. Its also an instant speed activation. This is great as you could eternalize a Draining welk to counter a spell or a nekrataal to terror a creature. Even better is you don't just have access to your own creatures, but all of your opponents creatures as well. He easily gets out of hand and I can't help but love this token commander. Who needs longevity for your creatures when you can just WIN! I wont argue that Prosh is one of the best. It absolutely is. But Breya, Etherium Shaper could give him a run for his money. Prosh has one combo while the rest of him is still fantastic, Breya arguably has more degeneracy involved with her. Death mantle and Ashnod's Alter, Eldrazi Displacer, the deck just screams combo. Although you might not think it a token commander specifically, but those 2 little thopters are key in her busted behavior. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant Was a long favorite of mine. Self mill, make tokens, use tokens to reanimate doods. Quite fun. I've been meaning to remake her, but Just haven't gotten around to it. Wort, the Raidmother was a really weird one to play. Red Green spells??? Very strange, and a commander that enjoyed her tokens. Last one I'll mention. Elenda, the Dusk Rose. I haven't played with her yet, but I really like her attitude. She seems like such an interesting and fun card to play around with. I'm looking forward to seeing just what she can do.
Prossh for the win. Power hungery was my first commander deck. I liked using it but it was too powerful for my playgroup. So i took it apart. I'm thinking about building it again
Edgar Markov is stupid (like the other commander in that series). Dropping out a sixth vampire on turn 3 is pretty easy. Ghave is amongst my favorites and can do so much I can't decide what direction to take the deck.
To bad you didn't include ones that cannot summon tokens themselves. There are a number of them that are insane for the value they get out of tokens or because they add busted effects to going wide.
Not gonna lie, pretty salty that Ghave wasn't higher. He's the first and favourite commander I've built around. He's unique because of his lack of popularity recently. Cards like Mycoloth, Heroes' Bane and Retribution of the Ancients give loads of variety in terms of win methods.
There's some funny things you can do aswell with this, for example Butcher of Malakir + Mycosynth Lattice + Self-Exiling Tokens (e.g.: Nacatl War-Pride is the most useful i've found because they get exile at the end of turn unlike others that occur at the end of combat so I can still sac them) + Fargren Marauder = Costless board-wipe with +5 health per destroyed creature (including your tokens). Also I've found that having both Trostani and Carnival of Souls together pretty much nets you mana for your health. Also, with enough ramping or mana generation (like the aforementioned set-up), Rhys, the Redeemed + Umbral Mantle is a token duplication engine. Abzan EDH decks with things like these can get you in the triple digits of health pretty quicky, get a bunch of floating mana and entertaining ETB/ETG triggers all around.
