    Thanks for your videos. I'm going to try to do my own sheetrock and door jamb repairs from water damage after hurricane Michael, 2 years ago. Can't find anyone to do repairs even 2 years later. My job isn't big enough for them to take on. Too many others need more help so I understand. I can do it!
    Growing up our home was constantly being remodeled by my parents so I have some basic knowledge. I'm looking forward to watching more if your videos.
    Btw, I see your U.S. Air Force emblem. I'm an 11 year AF vet. My husband 28 year vet. Go Air Force and thanks for your service!

    Nice video, I like your style. One trick I learned was when fastening an exterior jamb, put the screws behind the weather stripping. No filling or exposed screw later.. easy to find if the door frame needs to come out again in the future as well. If doing a bunch of doors making a little template for a small router would be helpful and cleaner for the latch and deadbolt holes. But not really worth it for one job I guess.

    very informative, but I would like to see one that is connected to a brick wall and there is no trim. It looks like they connected to the brick without any gaps. It's an old house before the 90s. How would I go and pry it out? Can you help me out to know where to start.

    The door jam I would be replacing is on an exterior door that opens out. The repar is on the door hinge side of the door. There is rot on the jam where is meets the threshold. The damage goes past the 1st door hinge. The door hinge screwes are not screwed in because of the rot . I believe the rot stops about 6 inches below the middle hinge. My question is........ can i take a multi tool and cut out below the middle hinge and replace whats rotting. I live in a block home so i am assuming i may have to tapcon the repare wood.
    Also is it ok if i use pressure treated wood to replace this damaged area? Can i paint over pressure treated wood?. This entry door is about 8 feet tall and looks heavy. I don't have anyone to help me hang that door so thats why I nwould reather replace whats damaged so i don't have to re hang this door.

    10:45 you talk about the top of the door and it looks like it wasn't nail or screwed in before your cut. Looking back would you have put in a screw before cutting the side door so it stayed in placed?

    Good video. Nice Bosch table saw! I score the shims with a utility knife so they are less likely to splinter and fall out. I also cut the caulk before puling the casing so it doesn't peel chunks of paint off when I pull it.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks Brian. Yeah I love my Bosch tablesaw. Especially love how quick it sets up and takes down. And the fact that it will cut 25 inch wide rips. I usually score the shims but if found it didn’t seem to help that much and I was in a hurry. Cutting the caulking is a good tip for everyone but in this building, the caulking was terribly done and I knew they were going to repaint it. But good point. Thanks for commenting and for pointing that out. Guy
