Mechanical perfection. :) I bought a brand-new Leica MP in 2021 from Leica. It jammed, there were issues with frames overlapping. I sent it back via the Leica store I bought it at. Leica "fixed" it on warranty - the repair took three months. When I got it back, the meter would only work on every other frame. I bulk load my own film too. Several times the tape I used to connect the film to the canister gave way and the entire roll of film ended up on the take up spool. I realized this when I looked at the film counter and it was in the 40s! Luckily I always carry a small film changing bag and some empty black light tight film containers. I switched to a different type of tape for reloading and for added measure I always rewind my film when I get to the 35th frame. I love my MP and the only problem I’ve had so far was my frame counter stopped working. Apparently the gears that attach to the frame counter is made of nylon and the teeth on the gears were stripped. Hi Matt thanks for sharing. I recently experienced a couple of times the film jammed in my MP. Found out the film was not evenly loaded at the beginning, so I rewind and reload to solve the issue each time. The camera works good after that.

With respect Matt - That Ilford FP4 Cine old stock film is TERRIBLE. It's grainy as hell and looking at your images you have had exectly the same problems with it as I have had. There are the same marks as I got all over your film and the final straw for me was when the the film was partially fogged. I thought Fomapan was bad BUT this film is useless - so glad I only bought 10 rolls of it. Lesson learnt and NEVER again!
Sorry to hear Paul, others see to like the same images you don't like and for the price I've been happy with the results. Yes I can get better from fresh film but that's to be expected. (I shoot mine all at ISO 50 FYI)
Hello Matt, Not sure about mechanical cameras, as I did use Nikon F plue new versions and Hasslblad 500 & 503 all great in ther time. Now all digital Z system and X systems. But I love mechanical watch. I own a number Breitling and would love to see a video on Czapek watches company
as someone who works on leicas, I cannot recommend buying new models. they are not built the same and your money would be far better spent on an m2/3/4 that has been completely refurbished and customized to your liking
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom it mostly comes down to the materials used. Cheaper metals and more use of plastic, and for me personally they do not feel as nice to use. There also seems to be a serious lack of quality control from the factory and repairs from leica take ages. Also like I said the value just isn't there. A new film leica is $6000 CAD, you can get a fully refurbished m2 (my favorite Meica M) for around $2000 CAD. I also have a huge issue with the direction that Leica is going in terms of the right to repair and parts exclusivity etc. but that is a whole other discussion haha
Prestige are such under rated watches, while the world has eyes on Grand Seiko. I will even say their watch dial are classier design than GS nature imitation dials. I love my vintage Omega Constellation pie-pan that has a "tropical" dial which render it gold, thus it became my only "gold watch" in my collection; but that thing is in need of a CLA more than any of my leicas, so I rarely wear it. One day if I stop buying camera, maybe I will pick up a 41mm Globemaster.
Came here to post the same thing ! Komandirskis seem to have a short lifespan, but all my Amfibias have proven to be highly reliable, accurate and - mostly indestructible. Easy to repair at home too.
I have a Soviet submarine clock in my bedroom and a FSU pocket watch. Dad passed them onto me. I’ll need a FSU watch to go with my FSU cameras so thanks for the heads up!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom nice ! Those submarine clocks are really rare now. Usually buy through Meranom, but haven’t tried for a while due to sanctions and exchange rate shenanigans.

there was one of these in a jessops window used in 2007 with a voigtlander 28 3.5 i think for £1100. slighlty regret not buying it even though not that fond of rangefinders and hardly use my M6.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom it was more beaten up than it perhaps should have been. Around this time a seller at Focus had about 6 new MPs for around that same figure.
this 100% would happen with me and my luck too (my digital camera seems like breaking again as well 🥲) I really hope your Leica will be fine later on..
To paraphrase Commodus in "Gladiator"...... "Leica, the camera that became a classic... The classic that became a fashion statement.... The fashion statement that became unreliable...."
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Sorry Matt but no matter how iconic, pretty or exclusive a camera is, it's sole purpose is to continually take pictures without fail. I've owned Leica's (Leica iii, M6, M8 and M9) so I'm not a "Leica hater". However they're just not as reliable as a Nikon, Canon or Fuji IMO and fail to fulfill their main function, and I just don't get why Leica users are willing to accept that while paying a hefty premium for the privilege?
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaComBack in 1968, got a s/h SS GMT Master for £35 plus part exchanged it with an Omega Seamaster, from Austin Kayes in the strand in London. It was getting popularity as was featured in the Bond movies at the time. Original price was £85 brand new. Rolex changed face and a black bezel as both pretty faded back in the late 90’s, the former a big mistake as probably lost value. At the same time changed bracelet as it was very stretched but kept original. Don’t wear it as have Apple Watch as not so conspicuous. Lovely watch, being serviced occasionally, only fault was a replacement winder as the shaft had sheared. Quite a costly repair. Wondered about your work background and surprised at your interest in mechanical watch’s. Nice video and Poland looks lovely with beautiful architecture, would be nice to see your earlier work from there. Will check your back YT vids. Thanks again for sharing.
Man this title is like Scotty Kilmer but wifh cameras. 😅😅😅.. He goes "Forget Toyotas! THIS IS cheaper and better!!"... but then you watch it and he actually didn't say that. Its funny.
Haha I try to keep it factor, Leica jammed on first roll the show proof in the first 10seconds (ish) to keep viewers happy. Luckily it ended up being the film but it stopped the photos on day 1.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Was it serviced? Hopefully is okay mechanically. Here in thailand a dealer was selling a black paint M4 never opened. It was great.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Oh, I didn't say I _had_ one! It's just my favorite watch movement of all time. Trick of the century in terms of horology. Not quite up there with Harrison's M4, perhaps, but still...yowzah. Electronic quartz chip powered by a mechanical generator, working by feedback. Very hard to do better!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Right, so the title should be, "I jammed my first roll in my new MP" instead of "My New MP jammed". The way it is now is clickbait.
How bloody typical for a Leica, MP, Mucho Pricey, Mechanically Poor. I seemed to remember this exact situation happening to photo magazine contributor Tom Ang years ago with a brand new Leica rangefinder. Thanks Marc, it seems hit and miss from all the comments. Some need attention others just work. I hope you get your 67 sorted.
Nice watch Matt. Having asked you what you wear as a Lecia man. I enjoy my lecia watch.
Thanks Mark! Not quite a Leica watch but I’ve got a new Leica substitute planned so stay tuned!
Yep, I have Seiko 5 automatic orange :).
Very cool! Stay tuned ..
The kit grows larger! Congratulations
Thank you! It was unplanned haha
Rolex GMT Master, steel. Black bezel. Nice video, sorry about your jammed camera, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Victor and great watch!
Thanks John! All nice cameras and great watch too. I will try to share more in the future!
as someone who works on leicas, I cannot recommend buying new models. they are not built the same and your money would be far better spent on an m2/3/4 that has been completely refurbished and customized to your liking
Thank you, oh dear. I hear this but wasn’t sure if it was true. Can you be more specific? What exactly isn’t as good?
I would like to see a video on the Leica m-a and how it compares with the m4
I see, well stay tuned I’ll see what I can do. :)
Very nice Rex and so cool you’re into watches too. Thomas will be impressed with your choice!
I have a few fancier watches, but I really like the Russian Vostok mechanical watches. Quirky and relatively inexpensive.
Thanks for the mention, I just replied more fully to the post you replied to but yes I’ll try to get one!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom nice ! Those submarine clocks are really rare now. Usually buy through Meranom, but haven’t tried for a while due to sanctions and exchange rate shenanigans.
I wear a seiko turtle reissue when not at work it’s a auto mechanical diver but you can’t see the movement but with a nato band it has a discount bond vibe
Very cool! Yes straps can add so much with watches. (Stay tuned for more soon!)
Matt, I purchased 2 MPs and both jammed up on the first rolls.......WTF?!?!?
German engineering..
No way! Sorry to hear it
IWC Spitfire Mk XVI is my favourite mechanical watch. I have one.
Very nice and great name too! Reminds me of a Hamilton
there was one of these in a jessops window used in 2007 with a voigtlander 28 3.5 i think for £1100. slighlty regret not buying it even though not that fond of rangefinders and hardly use my M6.
Wow, yes Leica were cheaper back then for sure. You have a great memory!
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom it was more beaten up than it perhaps should have been. Around this time a seller at Focus had about 6 new MPs for around that same figure.
this 100% would happen with me and my luck too (my digital camera seems like breaking again as well 🥲)
I really hope your Leica will be fine later on..
Thanks, yes just terrible timing but all seemed ok after. I hope all good for you too.
To paraphrase Commodus in "Gladiator"......
"Leica, the camera that became a classic...
The classic that became a fashion statement....
The fashion statement that became unreliable...."
Very good.. and from the comments seemingly accurate sadly
That's a little unfair to the Leica camera. Film was the culprit!
Thanks, yes I just stated what happened, Leica jammed, but as talked through in the video thankfully it was only the first film roll and ok after.
I have one of the other Pressage watches. Great watches and a timeless design.
Great! I love this range too, especially the dials.
Nice video. I was born in Bydgoszcz :)
Great! Love the area around the forest I was running in.
Oh man. I just watched your last video.
Ah thanks!
My mp has been and is faultless since buying back in 2003.. stunning camera in my humble opinion….
Thanks Dean, they seem to get either great reviews (as here) or lots of people sending them back for repairs/ issues.
@ problems from the MA..seems to have migrated to the Mp ….
Older Rolex submariner date....................sometimes also known as an MP (mega pricey)......
Thanks Bill! I'm sure I will end up with a used Rolex eventually but I need to make more videos first!
These old cameras are 70 years old. Let the poor things die! Beautiful mechanical objects, but well past their prime.
Grand Seiko Spring Drive all the way!
Very nice!! I need to get more TH-cam views/ subs before I can get a GS!
H4, dammit. Been watching too many Leica videos.
Should have brought your Nikon FM3a instead.
I did, I just haven't had time to make a video yet. Very nice camera. I got it at the start of the year.
It’s got to be the IWC Pilot mkXV for me……suits my M6 perfectly.
Nice looking watch! I’m not to that level yet
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Lol...every time I look at it I think......M10?
Matt you were born in Poland ?
No but I need to move there haha. Just many visits for 15 yrs
Is this video title really fair since it sounds like you wound the film too far or the film roll itself had an issue?
Thanks, yes I just wrote it as happened, MP jammed on first roll but yes thankfully it was the film.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Right, so the title should be, "I jammed my first roll in my new MP" instead of "My New MP jammed". The way it is now is clickbait.
bought my leica ma new, sent for repair twice in one year. leica's reputation is a hype.
Sorry to hear and yes I can understand. See a new video to come soon.
it start so often with a Seiko, will transfer to a Omega and end up with a Rolex ;)
This is what I fear too! I'll be sure to share as my journey continues.
My favourite mechanical watch I own is an Omega Seamaster.
Very nice! I have looked at used Omega but I need more subs before I can get one of those haha.
MP was better made in early 2000s, latest made is not reliable as the early made
Thanks for sharing, I think that is definitely generally the case since Leica began. My oldest Leica are the best made 1930s > M3 > > > MP
my 30 year old Omega Seamaster Professional
Very nice John!
Should have bought another M4-P
I have 2 already haha
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Threes Company!!! Haha
MAD IN GERMANY but manufactured in CCP!
Haha thanks
MP= Mechanical Problems. lolol.
Haha good!
It has 666 in number 😂
Oh no! I didn’t even notice
How bloody typical for a Leica, MP, Mucho Pricey, Mechanically Poor. I seemed to remember this exact situation happening to photo magazine contributor Tom Ang years ago with a brand new Leica rangefinder. But I have to congratulate you on the way you handled this albeit unacceptable fault. If that was me I would be in a Polish jail by now.
Haha thanks, thankfully as I know M cameras I figured out the problem but yes it was bad timing for sure!
So it was your bulk loaded film that caused the issue, not the camera. What’s with the click bait? 🙄
Thanks, I just said my MP jammed up on first roll and as you saw it did and stopped the photos that day. Yes it was the film thankfully.
