I know this is an old video now. But extended rearfacing should have been mentioned. My little girl born in 2012 is still rearfacing so the seats were definitely around in 2015 when this video was made. Poor show when it's 10x safer it should have been mentioned.
Why doesn't Which? advocate rear-facing beyond 15 months despite overwhelming evidence that children are much safer and avoid the spinal injuries associated with forward facing seats? You make the valid point about babies' heads being heavy relative to their bodies but this applies up until at least 4 years of age. Why the inconsistency?
Hi kyojitsu1, our reference to rear-facing and 15 months is in relation to one of the indicators of when a child will outgrow an infant-carrier. We're not saying that children should only stay rearward-facing until 15 months, although appreciate that the slide header could have been clearer so we've modified it. There is a lot of evidence to show that staying rearward facing for longer is much safer and we do test extended rearward facing car seats, you can find the best and worst we've tested on the link in the description.
+Which? Sweden has been rear facing children by law thru the age of 4yrs, and 18kilos max since 1960s. Sweden has proven that there are thousands of less UNNECCSSRY child deaths per day if a child stays rear facing during the sleeping-prone/low-muscle-tone/neck-instability age years. 2 states here in the US have made rear facing mandatory thru 2yrs of age: Oklahoma, and New Jersey. California makes it into effect in 2017. Britain still needs to get with the program. The U.S. And Britain have an average of 800+ child deaths/injuries combined everyday due to WRONG car seats/booster too early/seatbelt alone too early/forward face too early, whereas Sweden has under 20 per year, majority of those incidents being injuries and minority being deaths. 20 injuries/deaths per year of children 0-12 yrs in vehicle crashes in SWEDEN, 800+ per day in US and Britain. Who wins? Sweden. Go Sweden!
I definitely also think they should stay rear-facing longer, but with the new i-size regulations and the direction the law is taking on this matter it is only a matter of time before all car seats sold will have to meet i-size standards which means kids must be rear-facing up until 4 years old. Finally! If you guys are looking for the safest car seats you should definitely check out this guide shieldedbaby.com/travel/top-5-isize-car-seats/ ! You're welcome :)
I live in Iowa where the law is babies must be in a rear facing car seat till they are 1 or weigh 20 lbs then they must be in a 5 point harness till age 4 then can move to a booster seat which they can leave at age 6. They can sit in the front seat at age 12 so saying a 12 year old should be in a car seat is just ridiculous. I moved from the booster to a regular seat when I was 7
it's not ridiculous... it's safer. you may have been fine after 7 years old but if you were in a major car accident it could have been a different story
Are you insane? Just because our parents didn't have the science to tell them staying in a car seat is better is NOT a good reason to ignore the science we now have! And even though YOU survived, think of how many didn't. They will never get to tell their story.... Because they are dead. They can't speak. There are SOOO many crash test videos showing exactly why car seats are better than not being in a car seat.
Alyssa P Children who are 4 are too young to be in a booster. Every move (from rear to forward facing) (from five point to booster) is a demotion in safety. As long as a child can stay rear facing, they should. In most car seats that is now 4-5 years old. So then they should rear face until 4 or 5 years of age. most five point convertibles can hold children up to 90 pounds. That’s at least 8 years old. An 8 year old needs to be in a five point harness. There is a reason race car drivers have five point harnesses. They are SAFER.
im 12 years old almost 13 and 80 - 85 pounds and i sit in a 5 point harness because its the safest option for me and i think you should at least be in a booster seat from 12 - 16
Well im 12 and 165cm and Ive been out of a car seat since I was 8 or 9. Im not at all fat im underweight and I for the love of god cannot fit in any car seat at all. I have tried but they caused me pain and I was left with stiffness in my neck, shoulders and my shoulders are still very stiff and weak now so people will say my parents are bad parents- they arent my doctor and paediatricion said I shouls be taken out of it. Anyway that was before these new laws ans by 8 i was 140cm
There is absolutely NO way a 11 or 12 year old would be in a car seat. That's ridiculous. I'm 12 and I can't even imagine sitting in a car seat like what the heck.
Mercedes Smith yes many booster seats can now seat 11 or 12 year olds even. so yes, it’s best for a child of that age to be in a booster seat. when their legs touch the floor of the seat of the car and their knees bend nicely over the edge of the seat, the seatbelt is low and snug across the hips, touching the chest and in alignment with chest and shoulder and the child can not slouch over in the seat and stay in the same space the whole car ride, then they can sit in a vehicle seat. They also must be 4’9. When these things happen, then it’s safe to not be in a booster seat.
im 12, 80 pounds and i sit in a 5 point harness car seat and yes it is embarrassing and my friends make fun if me but its the safest option for me and you too
@@jillianfiske5662 NO actually you don't, the chest clips only a belt positioner, thats it and it is more dangerous if used wrong. UK seats have the shoulder belts closer meaning unless the kids too loose they can't come out through the 3 pt belt, but I always look for a 5pt belt. We also need to be able to get baby out in a single motion in case of fire so that means we can't use a chest clip
Hi Aria, UK law states that children must use a child car seat until they're 12 years old or 135cm/4ft 5in tall, whichever comes first. However, safety experts recommend that you use a child car seat for all children under 150cm/4ft 11in. This is the legal requirement in Ireland and some other European countries, such as Germany and France.

if I'm nine should I still have a carseat

thank you and i agree
Why do European child seat standards require that child restraints be able to be released with a single motion?
What is the website you mentioned to know the best car seat for a certain vehicle?

Alyssa P -the laws aren’t what is best for children.

Some people can't afford to buy a baby or child car seat so they have to rely on charity but they always check for safty first even if some are used.

AllyMsp X you could fit into a booster.
there are some carseats that are adjustable to your height and i think those might work (theyre 5 point harnesses btw)

The car seats in Australia or the Uk are dumb the DONT have a chest clip
ikr you need to have a chest clip its unsafe

Rear facing,,,,,0-4y....my 2.5y old legs are bent if rear facing plus weight is 15kg .....so think some of these rules are over the top
the rules vary from child to child
@@jillianfiske5662 not really, it goes by weight and height for R44 and height alone for R129 seats, not age of child
150cm,,,,,thats my wife height
Exactly haha
Better buy her a car seat LoL
your wife is 4”11
Your wife’s bones have ossified COMPLETLY though and her head isn’t a large percentage of her bodies weight
I'm 10 and I'm 125 cm
you guys should have a 5 point harness
I hope my mom doesn't see this
Those carseats are educated Carseats.
That boy looks way to big and old to be in a car seat he looks about 8-10 years old
