The next day they excitedly called me by it - Kid: "Hey [first name]!" Me: "Yes?" Kid: "[first name] is your name, right?" Me: "Yep." Kid: "..." I had to fight to hold back from laughing at this poor kid who was clearly hoping for some soet of reaction. Not realizing I had spent 25+ years answering to that name, and only a couple weeks at this point answering to my last name. I didn't even clock that he shouldn't have known my name until the end of the conversation. Literally no kid ever used my name again, because they knew it would get them absolutely no reaction. I understand enforcing the name-thing as one way to keep professional distance to cover yourself. (If a kid goes home referring to their teacher by their first name, a parent is going to grow rightfully concerned about that relationship.) But treating it like some mystery is only going to encourage them to fixate. Treat it like the mundane fact it is and they'll leave well-enough alone.

In Iceland, there are no mr or mrs terms so we literally just call our teachers by their first name-
