I remember this match. I though it would be an easy game for LCW. But Wei Nan really put up a fight against him.

I'm a big fan of LCW but when I see Wei Nan performance in this match, I think he's so happy to play agains LCW even he lose.

Yup but lcw was basically in a marathon but wei nan was in a sprint. Lcw unleash hell in 3rd. In 2nd,lcw basically played more netshot.

Yea, i think Wei Nan is a guy who's built his game around that heavy smash. It does have some real pop. I actually think WN might be the heaviest hitter in men's singles. Good net play+a smash like that legit gives you a chance against anybody. My old coach said that to me.
As that guy with a fairly simple game anchored around net play + firepower, i loved to play the very best opponents i could find. I knew i could make them nervous, and i had nothing to lose.If I played well, they'd be tempted out of their percentage play, and that would give me a chance. If they got rattled by losing a few points early on, there was always a chance they'd make mistakes either clearing too deep or being too aggressive in their own attack.
Wei Nan famously beat LCW one time. It was a brutal beatdown that day, pretty much every point was a screamer. He was awesome that day, and i'm pretty sure getting drawn against LCW would have kindled some good mojo for him.
@@meandermyself61 And then proceeded to drift away from world badminton. He's good but not to the extent that he's going to go big. Back in 2015, LCW was still in his crisis, too so his win against LCW was just a flash in the pan.

In the 2nd and 3rd set, Lcw tactics was to put the shuttle more to Weinan backhand and to tire Weinan. Im not saying Weinan backhand is weak, but it seems like Weinan cant do his best smash in his backhand side. Weinan cant play his "strength" because lcw didnt gave him the shuttle he wanted.
true. wei nans backhand is absolutely deadly if he can use his body rotation for the jump smash, but otherwise if his backhand is under pressure, then the rally is directed more toward LCW

& it because of in 3rd set lcw started to play net shots more due to which WN didn't get a chance to hit smashes

the reason why wei nans smashes were penetrating lcw defense is because they are actually short stick smashes which are less powerful than a power smash but are steeper and faster as it only uses the wrist at the highest point possible.

In 2015 LCW lost to Wei Nan because of his performance and very hard smash in that tournament against LCW....LCW kinda surprised by Wei Nan gameplay...he so fast and aggressive player
thats why lcw change the rhythm to stamina play. fast and aggressive definitely drained wei nan's energy heavily on 3rd round.
Wei Nan will always be remembered as the player that beat LCW twice in a row ...........

this match is best example of power vs tactics play,,, in first two sets WN hit a lot of power smashes which was perfect points but in last sets lcw started to play net shot more and not gave any chance to WN to play any full power smash & at last lcw tactics won

this wsnt a comeback, chong wei is a formidable player and this was just how he reads people games by watching them gaining point but the point is chong wei would never give an opponent a point just for nothing he always learn thats why he is the legendary player and an example for all the players out there.the guy is golden!

Wei nan is a monster with his smash, certainly very hard to faced him. Plus, he used to give a very good lift which results in player not enabling to execute smash against him. Whereas, in the 2nd match, we see how LCW used Wei Nan's weakness to win the set and in the final set, he used Wei Nan's weapon which heavy smash and speed to win the game. Wei Nan is good with his attack especially the smash but not with fast rally and defense, which is what LCW do to win the game.

Mobile Badminton indeed the guy did not have many easy lift so he would smash for win. Net play is critical to open opportunity for winning smashes.
On the contradict, great netplay without smart smash will just be a waste of time. LCW did have very smart and powerful smashes
in a year before Wei Nan won against LCW using this same technique. LCW has improved afterwards

Weinan used too many cross smash and lcw returned them all with straight blocks, resulting in weinan having to use more and more stamina to get back to the net.
