  • In this episode, we are showing you guys some incredible Australian food using native ingredients at a small cafe in the inner-western suburb of Melbourne, Australia, called Mabu Mabu. This cafe is very special because it is indigenously owned and operated. The business owner and head chef, Nornie Bero is originally from Torres Strait.
    This is one of a kind experience for us and with limited knowledge of indigenous Australian ingredients, we tried our best to describe the unfamiliarity of the flavours and tastes. We hope you guys enjoy this episode. Please give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video.

    Also, drop us a comment as we love hearing from you!
    P.S. Apologies for the loud background noise in this video, we really should've picked the seat outside the cafe (blaming the cold Melbourne weather in the middle of summer!)

    This is so interesting to us guys. We've been wanting to try more native food here in the US and it's so hard to find. You have to go to places like Colorado to find it. Glad you guys put this video together. That hot chocolate looks so good. Oooh, native peach? We're sold.

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes it’s also hard to find here but lately it becomes more easier to find and it’s more like a food trend now that cafes are incorporating native ingredients too in their food.
      Would love to see native US food too from you one day hopefully 🤗

    They used quite exotic food ingredients there. Wow the hibiscus 🌺! I bet it must be very flavorful. Wow Kangaroo 🦘 tail! The gravy looks amazing... So the tail is tender!!!

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup they use exotic food ingredients at this cafe 👍🏻
      I think they use hibiscus in the salad that’s why it’s very aromatic and flowery salad, best salad! Perfect for summer.
      They cooked the tail perfectly, looks like it’s slow cooked or pressured cooked or something that makes the meat really tender. Really amazing! 😍

    We have been enjoying incorporating salt bush in our homecook meal. Very tasty to add to your savoury and meaty dish, gives extra kick and earthy flavour to the dish 👍
    PS. When we say Happy Australia Day in this video, it means for two of us to celebrate the diversity in Australia and just to enjoy the public holiday on 26th Jan with our friends and family with good food. We understand that Australia Day has different meanings and views for many people here. We also understand that Australia Day is not a day for celebrations for many First Nations people in this country. Our main intention by sharing this video is we are all becoming aware of how awesome and diverse indigenous ingredients are and use them more in our food.

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree! Kangaroo meat is delicious when it’s cooked properly, using the right spices. Some people complain that it’s gamey but it’s probably because not cooked well.

    Kangaroo tail, that has to be so interesting

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, now you mentioned it, it does look like corn bread because of the yellow colour, only this one is using pumpkin as flavouring.
      Without the pumpkin, normally the colour is just white like normal bread.
