I've yet to send anything to get graded, but I got a rainbow zardstar that's sure to pull a 9+ pretty sure a gem10! Just waiting on the grading services to stabilize a bit

Sir I’ve gotta tell you… I’m just getting back into the tcg scene after a few years’ hiatus. Everything pointed out in this vid is on point! Never send anything off unless you’re positive that you’ll get an 8 at worst. Unless there’s the Big Mac daddy Charizard or something. Personally I like to collect full 1st edition Wizards holo sets and send them off all together. Your zard’s gotta be sick! Anything else you’d like to send in?
@Wilfredo Gomez I bet you still call a Gallus gallus domesticus a chicken or a lollipop a pop. Or an cellular telephone a cell phone. Or an automobile a car
I only want to grade cards I like. To collect don’t care about value of card. But I still need to know value in order to submit due to price value. Don’t know how to decide what card will score high
I personally only buy cards pre-graded. The cards I keep in my collection are mainly for commemorative reasons. I think I prefer CGC or BGS just because I like the shape of the cases, and BGS penny sleeves the cards in the case. Thanks for the info!! Keep Dancing!!

Agreed, only because collectors have zero control over this. It's not getting graded down because the card was poorly handled or stored but because the factory wasn't on point that day. Imagine hunting for a rare card that's like 10 of 10 prints ever which means the odds of actually pulling that card are already extremely rare but you finally pull the card, and straight out of the package you put it in a protective case and ship it out for grading.. this card in your eyes Is super rare and you took every precaution you could but when it's graded they send it back low because the factory didn't print it centered or the ink missed a nearly invisible line, now that rare cards worth half of its value and your chances of pulling another are slim to none with the exception of buying a lose card which in its self is another gamble. The odds don't seem very good when you throw in uncontrollable factors
I have a card that only has a tiny white mark the size of the sharp tip of a sewing pintl on one of the corners, if I sent that, what type of grade should I expect to get?
Thank you for this vid, can't believe I hadn't seen it yet! I'm getting my first set of cards ready for grading and definitely gonna take my time with it. Most of them are for resale but some of them are just my favorite cards and don't really mind the grade, just want them in a slab. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Would you ever consider doing a video on how to find ungraded WOTC cards in semi-decent condition? I just got into collecting and don’t have hundreds of dollars for graded cards. Really enjoying your videos!
Great vid. I've never had a card graded, but i assumed that if the card came out of a pack and straight into a holder, it must be a 10. Never realised that the actual quality of the print came into it. 👍
Interesting. I have ever card from the first 3 sets, all holograms put in a sleeve then hard plastic and taped. I hope the sleeve didnt stick to the card after watching this. Wonder if it is worse getting them graded.
Thank you for this! I found a first edition shadowless charizard from my childhood! I immediately put it in a hard case (the kind that closes around the card, not the kind that you slide in) and I’d love to see what it gets graded!
Awesome video! Pretty helpful! Can you make a video on how to check prices if you don’t have one? I still have to check your whole channel, which I will as soon as I have the time. But I would love to see which websites and criteria you use to check prices.
I cant even afford to grade 1 card. Ive only been collecting pokemon cards since Feb 2022. Im struggling to complete my brilliant stars and want to complete that as only 43 cards away from completing. Would be so nice to have a complete binder. 1 day I will hopefully be able to afford to get some of my better cards graded just so ive got in my collection
Graded with a few European graders this year to form an opinion. Imo only Cardmarket graded has the extra Goodwill value. For me that is the big decisive factor. CM their grading is OK. but their slab (also the new one) is a big nono. PSA slabs are so simple, yet so good.
thanks man, abt to send in my first card for grading, a rayquaza vmax alt art from evolving skies I pulled myself, really just looking to seal it up and possibly be able to sell it in the future
Very informative, thank you very much. And i dunno what camera u are using but getting a macro lens can help u with that up close focusing issue that u are having. Cheers
I liked and subscribed. Valued this video. I've been pulling all my old stuff. I've always been the type to collect cards rather than play with them. looking to encapsulate that childhhod, but also grade and sell some of the duplicates to cover the cost of grading. thanks for the vid.
Biggest point to make here is PSA is a lot more strict than you think they are. I’ve seen a couple questionable 10’s from PSA, but when it comes to whitening and scratches, they are VERY strict
Awesome video. I've been collecting for the past few years but have yet to send anything to get in to get graded. This will really help determine which of my cards to send in in the future as I've just been waiting for grading prices to come back down.
Hey! Not sure you will see that comment but what about factory lines on the back of modern card (not scracthes) sometimes they are very subtle but sometimes you can see them with no specific lighting
I have a coin microscope with a digital screen. You should grab one to look at your cards! It works great for coins so I bet it will work well for cards. Great video though, thanks!
Thanks for this video this will really help me when it comes to grading, I’ve been nervous about grading as I’ve not done it before so I have no idea what issues to look out for in a card other than the obvious ones until now
Amazing. Thank you for showing how to use the grading tool I have seen them for sale but had no idea how to actually use it. Now I think I will grab the next one I see. I’m hoping to send some cards into psa before New Years. I hear there are some sale s on currently.

Mostly just loved some of the full art versions I'd seen recently and had to get that nostalgia itch scratched. Got one 36-count booster box each of Lost Origins and Silver Tempest, put all the holographic cards I pulled (even the common and uncommon ones, when'd that start happening??) into sleeves, top loaders, then a binder designed for top loaders. I recently ordered more booster boxes, one each for Brilliant Stars, Fusion Strike, and Astral Radiance. Some of the rarer cards I've seen have such amazing artwork, I'd love to find a couple! Not really planning on trying to sell any so no profit motivation, most of these would probably sell for less than the cost to grade them, but it'd still be nice to get some solid 10's since they're pack fresh. The most common issue I noticed while checking them out today was scratch marks on some of them, often just one. I assume from the printing process or something, straight scratches on the front, sometimes the back. Otherwise, I didn't notice any bends, creases, edge issues, etc. If scratches are present, think should I assume a PSA 10 is not going to happen?
@@PokeVault8 I guess we'll see what happens! Either way, they'd look great on a shelf. At this point I'll wait until I go through the new booster boxes I just ordered, then pick my favorites to send as a group, if I end up deciding to get them graded.
I got a 1st ed shadowless Charizard that ive had since base release. I know its not mint, got a few lil tiny tiny dings on the face where u can see some silver comin thru, but you reallly really gotta angle the card in light and look. I know PSA will see this, how much does this knock the card down on a 10 scale?
Do they grade for when you lay the card down flat and it does not lay perfectly flat on a flat surface? Also, does psa let you know what your card got dinged on?
Thnx, great vid. I am prepping my first set ever to go to cgc and I already picked out the high value low grade ones so happy to see I was correct there! My question is what would that card on left have recieved best guess?
Thanks for this. I have been wanting something like this video for a long time. I have not sent anything in because of the very things you mentioned. I was not willing to take a risk based on a whim. At least now I can be educated on the risk. Looking forward to part 2.
Awesome info! I sent off the magneton base set holo I pulled from the base set break you did last month along with some e series cards I got from revs break to psa they looked perfect. I think it's good to be more strict than psa would be when reviewing especially at $50 a card for economy right now.
What i always found kinda off putting about yhe grading system is that factors outside of the collectors control effect the grade value for example you have no control how centered the factory prints the cards or if the ink that day wasnt great, but then you the collector spend tons of time and money trying to pull that rare card and you finally do only to get dumped on cause the factory was off the mark slightly. So basically not only are you hunting for a rare card but your also hunting a rare with no defects, and praying that the graders feel the same because at the end of the day even with the system they use for grading its still the opinion of the grader wether the card is a 9 or 9.5 or 10 and like he said in the video the difference in a point could mean thousands
Your video helped a lot I'm new to grading and am getting my first order ready, honestly I was wondering if you ever do one on one with anyone for advice and so on. Hope this doesn't sound creepy lol just looking fir any advice and potentially your opinion on what I've bought to be graded and so on!!!

I opened my very first Astral Radiance blister booster pack from gamestop and pulled the origin forme palkia gold card 😁 I couldn't believe my luck. I kept the other packs I bought sealed because I'd rather not ruin the streak lmao
I want to get a card graded but don't want to pay 10% of the cards value for PSA to slap their label on it. as much as I'd love to spend upwards of $7000, I just don't have that kind of capital to throw around on a card valued upwards of $60,000. quite frustrating really
I’ve been noticing little white nicks on a lot of cards - what is that from? They’re pack fresh. I’m wondering if it’s the way I’m sliding them into penny sleeves. Or whether it’s due to how they were handled during manufacturing
What’s your advice on sending a Shining charizard Japanese Neo with a couple visible creases on the back with risk reward ? Maybe a 6 grade but what’s your advice on that card
Take the Vaporeon for example. If it looks a 10 to you, you are having to pay PSA for the declared value of $4000 which ups the grading cost significantly. I understand if you declare at a 9 and its a 10 they will ask for the additional money, but if you declare a 10 and get a 9 would they refund you? Also, is there any risk that if you declare a 9 on something that should grade a 10 that they would take your estimate into consideration and only grade 9?
Hi Sean Great informative video on grading I'm been a subscriber for almost a few months now I love all your content I'm huge on the hobby since getting back into it 😃 I have a question on psa if they only charge 30 to grade a card and you think it might grade Gem 10 would psa charge u more after submission to get the card back because they think card is valued higher just wondering because I'm thinking of sending some for the first time thanks your channel is awesome 👍
My wife and myself recently starting going through our old pokemon card collection. She found a holographic Machamp 1st edition with what looks to be a misprint of some kind of bird or insect at the very top of the card. We checked and it's definitely not ink, marker, or some kind of filth. It looks like was printed onto the card. Is this something worth getting graded?
I know this might merit another video, if one hasn’t been made yet, but how do you approach protecting and storing your cards? To preserve value while staying organized?
Thank you Shawn this was so very helpful with PSA going down to $30 I have about 50 cards I’ve been sitting on to send in I have the time to wait for PSA can’t wait for your next episode Keep up the great content

Hey Sean, would you do a video on how you prefer to store your pokemon cards? Binders/top loaders, etc?

PSA seems to discriminate against error cards which is really stupid - if anything it needs its own category due to the nature of error prints

Probably get a 5 or 6
Great content! Can’t wait for part 2.
Can't wait to get to the point where I start grading some of my collection.
It's the best honestly. Especially if it is from your childhood
@Poke Vault Absolutely agree. My first three will be (2) Ancient Mew promos and the Japanese banned misty's tears.
What’s your advice on sending a Shining charizard Japanese Neo with a couple visible creases on the back with risk reward ? Maybe a 6 grade but what’s your advice on that card
Worth a shot
Take the Vaporeon for example. If it looks a 10 to you, you are having to pay PSA for the declared value of $4000 which ups the grading cost significantly. I understand if you declare at a 9 and its a 10 they will ask for the additional money, but if you declare a 10 and get a 9 would they refund you? Also, is there any risk that if you declare a 9 on something that should grade a 10 that they would take your estimate into consideration and only grade 9?
You don't pay til it gets graded
This video is my homework - great content!
Great video man! Been waiting a long time for these videos! Also can we just talk about how amazing that Kadabra card is? Gorgeous.
😍😍😍
What if I send it to them still in the wrapper? Sealed
Hi Sean
Great informative video on grading I'm been a subscriber for almost a few months now I love all your content I'm huge on the hobby since getting back into it 😃 I have a question on psa if they only charge 30 to grade a card and you think it might grade Gem 10 would psa charge u more after submission to get the card back because they think card is valued higher just wondering because I'm thinking of sending some for the first time thanks your channel is awesome 👍
Yes unfortunately that is the case. When you will see the max declared value they will give you an up charge
@@PokeVault8 is this any grading company or just psa?
My wife and myself recently starting going through our old pokemon card collection. She found a holographic Machamp 1st edition with what looks to be a misprint of some kind of bird or insect at the very top of the card. We checked and it's definitely not ink, marker, or some kind of filth. It looks like was printed onto the card. Is this something worth getting graded?
I personally would not
Thank you for this info! The grading scene is vast and intimidating, and you helped demystify and explain a lot here, very clearly - ty!
I know this might merit another video, if one hasn’t been made yet, but how do you approach protecting and storing your cards? To preserve value while staying organized?
I’ve actually made a video on this in the past but could certainly do an update video
@@PokeVault8 found em! Thanks! The “LEVEL 2” video of the Poke Vault was particularly helpful!
Thank you Shawn this was so very helpful with PSA going down to $30 I have about 50 cards I’ve been sitting on to send in I have the time to wait for PSA can’t wait for your next episode Keep up the great content
Thanks Nick. I just sent in 100 myself
I have a radiant mew card signed by Junichi Masuda when he was in the Uk for ORAS. I have no clue how to get it graded
It's called Google
Problem I don’t think that works on a Yuval Tal break Pokémon card
