    My '03 thankfully has made it to 333k miles without any towing ever! I use it as my daily. Been through a few fuel pumps, batteries, one water pump, one a/c condenser, one oil pan gasket and a few other things, but i dont have a heavy foot so shes been good to me! This generation of trucks are built like tanks as long as you take care of them!!💪🏼

    Something else I would recommend (2003-2006) is a transmission temp gauge. If you send your cluster to a rebuilder, you can have it remanufactured with new lights and stepper motors, and have the trans temp gauge added. It is plug and play for 2003-2006 for sure (I am not sure on previous years). A cluster from a HD pickup of the same years does the same thing. It gives you peace of mind to be able to see what temps your trans is running during stop and go traffic, towing, etc.

    I've heard that you can save a lot of stress on the transmission and get it to last longer if you never tow in overdrive.

    • @user-uj4kg3pc7l
      @user-uj4kg3pc7l 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So keep it in 4 low what do you mean by overdrive on a automatic transmission I thought over drive was exclusive for manuals

      @@user-uj4kg3pc7l Automatics have had overdrive gears since the 60s; basically any gear that is less than 1:1 ratio and on the 4L60e, towing in OD is hard on the trans.

      @@user-uj4kg3pc7lto answer your question specifically on these trucks, tahoes is not 4 low lol. The shift Indicator on the dash goes P RND321. D is drive and over drive at higher speeds. If you tow in 3 instead it won't go into overdrive and use the tow haul button also. I drive mine in 3 whenever I am going under 40-45 mph or in town basically and in D on the highway. Works wonders for longevity!!

    • @DevilDog586
      @DevilDog586 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-uj4kg3pc7l on the end of the trans gear selector there's a button you press when you're towing and it'll take care of it for you. He's not referring to your transfer case switch with the 2WD/4WD High/4WD Low.

    • @drainbamages
      @drainbamages หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DevilDog586 it will still shift into overdrive with you press the tow/haul mode on the shifter. shift to 3 instead of D and it won't shift into your overdrive gear.

    I have a 2005 Tahoe and I absolutely love the truck.
    But anyone who researches this generation of Tahoe or suburban, or pick up, recognizes that rust in the rocker panels and sometimes the rear quarter panels is a major issue.
    Pre-treating these areas can make a big difference. Using some sort of rust “preventer” or “converter” such as Eastwoods Internal Frame Rust coating with a 24 inch extension tube can make a big difference.
    There is a plug on the inside of the rear quarter panels that allows you to spray in that area.
    You may have to research how to spray into the rocker panels, I forget how it’s done.

    Don't forget about the infamous "GM pump rub" in tahoes with the 4x4 option!Pump rub is basically the transfer case oil pump rubbing a hole in your tahoes transfer case,it's the size of a pea and the best way to know if your suv has it,check the passenger side 2nd rib from the top on your transfer case.You won't see a leak when parked,but when it's driving,it'll run your transfer case fluid low.Reason for this is because GM made those housings from Magnesium(which is weaker than aluminum)as well as there's a tab inside the transfer case that's supposed to keep the transfer case oil pump "floating" but it usually breaks hence rubbing on the housing.Merchant automotive has the upgraded parts you need to reinforce your transfer case.
    Overall,great video and you definitely know your stuff!Just picked up an 04 Tahoe Z71 package with 180k,they just don't make them like they used to anymore!

    I'm going to go ahead and mention another common issue with these vehicles. I have to assume by how clean bruhs ride is he doesn't live in the rust belt. Every single one of these that come into my shop without fail need BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. They can be a huge pain in the butt to replace but a very necessary repair if you want your 1999-2006 GM truck/suv to be a reliable daily driver.
    Dorman Products offers a full stainless steel replacement kit for the brake lines that'll help you get another 20 years or if the brake lines. They also offer replacement fuel (supply, return and vapor line assembly) lines since GM discontinued the replacement assembly. Reason you'll need both is due to location of fuel lines being mounted in front of the abs/hcu module.
    If you have to replace your transmission on one of these - do the fuel lines at the same time because it'll be the easiest way to do them - with the trans OUT OF THE WAY.

    Not sure if I ever had any of these issues; however, my 2001 Chevy Suburban has over 320,000 miles on it and it's working just fine and doesn't use a drop of oil. Miles were from driving throughout Mexico, so it's where the roads are not very good. I had to have the transmission worked on years back - they did the work in Mexico for economical prices; then, once the water pump went out. Never had any suspension work or ball joints replaced, but steering is fine so far. Thank you young man - nice to know someone in the Know and you are one smart cookie to be driving these cars - they made them well back then.

    I'm at 200,000 runs great but and suddenly burning oil. 5.3 engine. I checked around on TH-cam has tutorials about the oil consumption problem on LS engines. Defective valve cover on the driver side. Clogged PCV and drill it out and drill out the baffle how about 15 holes.
    By the way there is no PCV valve like the older vehicles. People are trying to remove the PCV thinking that it is a PCV valve but it's not. It's permanent in the top of the valve cover.
    And I only use synthetic from now on.

    2004 GMC Yukon Denali just turned 166k miles. Getting to 200k quick!
    We purchased end of Oct 2019 with 103k miles.
    Definitely need to do the transmission fluid and filter soon. Luckily A LOT of those miles have been highway miles. Even if it goes, will just through a new tranny into it.
    Also need to delete the "air ride" and switch over to regular shocks once Spring arrives. Should probably upgrade the tranny cooler soon as well as you stated.
    These vehicles are GREAT! Love the ride and smoooooooth acceleration of the 6.0L engine. It's like driving a nice Lazy Boy!

    I'm concerned now about the oil pressure at the o-ring in the oil pan..
    My vehicle just started losing oil pressure few years ago at 190,000 miles. I bought a cheap oil sensor on eBay and it failed, bought another one and it's not showing the full 40 plus that it had before.
    I thought the biggest problem was the brake lines all rusted out and major rust underneath. Also electrical problems constantly. Parasite draw for 2 years now I still can't figure it out.
    Now you got all these things on me. Humbug

    Oh man I’m currently rocking an 04 Chevy Tahoe LTD. Last year has been a wild ride but luckily nothing to crazy. Semi blew a tire and I ran over it causing a small puncture to my oil pan. Then my radiator connector blew followed by the radiator I had just replaced a year ago. Small things like spark plugs, starter, ball joints, bearings, etc. But i feel like my suspension is screwed, never replaced and I got my car aligned and I still feel like I’m going sideways and I have to hold my wheel at a weird angle.. suspension still seems good, but today at a stop sign when I went to gas it nothing happened and it slipped.
