    Looks awesome!
    I wouldn't say it totally negates the need for a power supply, but could in a lot of cases.
    If your bike doesn't have an ignition or if your bike won't start because the TPS is so out of adjustment you would still need the power supply.
    Having said that, this is way easy easier!

    • @8180634
      @8180634  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I think this would definitely work even if your bike wouldn't start, there is no need to have the motor running to get voltage. However if you were minus an ignition or just wanted to work on the bench, then that would definitely be a case for a power supply. I was scratching my head as to why this hasn't been available earlier, and I think it's because there are services charging people lots of money to do this for them and they didn't want to cut into their own bottom lines. :)

    I have a 2011 ZX14 100% stock with 8300 miles. I change the plugs and air filter at 7800 miles. At 3k rpm any gear, the bike will cut out at full throttle but run like the win around 5 or 6 grand. You just gave me something to try before paying M--- Motor Sports $140 to look at it. Glad u upload your video. BTW I have a few videos on cars.

      ***** I'm glad it was helpful! Put the meter on it and watch the meter while very slowly going from idle to full throttle. The voltage should change very smoothly. If you see any sudden jumps or dips in the voltage then that can mean that your TPS is actually bad. I hope this helps and good luck!

    • @8180634
      @8180634  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will vary by bike model. I'm not sure for your bike, but the value should be in the service manual if you can get your hands on the manual somehow.

    • @blackericdenice
      @blackericdenice 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt South I checked tps and it is smooth from idle to max. It was set at .61 volts I tried going up to .68 volts and it got worst. I tried going down to .48 volts and that didn't help.Bike still cut out at around 3500 at full throttle.

    • @8180634
      @8180634  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It sounds like the TPS isn't the problem with your particular bike. I think it's time to start checking out other things. So at 3k rpm if you open the throttle it cuts out, but if you open the throttle at round 6k rpm then it runs fine?

  • @8180634
    @8180634  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    @rustyATV - You can use the tool to adjust the TPS on your carbureted RFS motor, but it may not see as big an improvement as the fuel injected bikes. However on the carbureted adventure bikes, especially the twins, I'm getting feed back that adjusting the TPS makes a very big improvement.

    • @8180634
      @8180634  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +surg23 You'll want to raise the voltage a bit. Going for between .60v and .64v should give you a significant improvement. Start at .60v and test, then raise it to .62v and test. Keep bumping it up as long as you see improvement. There's a big thread over at Thumper Talk (dot com), the TPS adjustment thread in the KTM forum, with piles of details and feedback from other riders. I will try to post a link here, lets see if youtube lets me post it:

    • @surg23
      @surg23 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt South Thanks for the info Matt. I don't actually know how lean or rich mixtures affects the bikes performance, all I know is it has a weak idle. All the power seems to be there as it was right on 60hp at the time of testing.
      Perhaps I should be looking for a smoother power delivery or something, only one way to find out.

    • @8180634
      @8180634  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tweaking the TPS slightly won't have a noticeable affect on peak power at all. What you will notice is better starting, idle and smoothness at small throttle openings. It also helps to resolve flame outs. If it burbles or stumbles at smaller throttle openings then tweaking the TPS can really clean that up. Check out that thread I linked, piles of feedback and great advice in there.

    • @surg23
      @surg23 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt South Ahh I see! This could very well fix that laboring and stalling issue. It's the weirdest thing, to have all this power, yet it has zero tolerance for being in a gear 1 higher than ideal, shit I can put my GS in a gear 4 gears higher relative to speed and it just pulls no probs.
      Perhaps this is the reason why I am not seeing this torque the bike claims to have lol. Thanks again Matt.

      Thanks for posting! I'm honestly not familiar with that bike, but the effect of the adjustment should be the same on anything with open-loop fuel injection. Check your TPS plug to see which model plug matches (compare against the pictures at tpstool.com), and also check to make sure your TPS is adjustable. Some are solidly mounted and can't be adjusted, but if there are slots for the mounting screws then it can be adjusted. I hope this helps!

    Hello, I built a similar cable and tried it on a Husaberg 350-2013. The bike does not have the ignition key, and then I tried to briefly press the start button but without starting the engine. The tester does not mark anything!
    Should I start the engine and let it idle?

    • @8180634
      @8180634  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @8180634
      @8180634  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This works great on my 2015 Ktm 450. But when we tried on a 2015 Ktm 350, it was way too rich. What is the voltage recommendation on a 350?

    • @8180634
      @8180634  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment! Every bike is a little different, so just setting it to one specific number won't give you the best result. This is especially true if there are are any aftermarket parts installed (exhaust, etc..). If you're too rich right now, then take the current reading and move it down by 0.02v, then give it a test. Keep repeating as long as you see improvement. On a bike that is too lean, just do the opposite; take the current reading and move it up by 0.02v, then test. And keep repeating as long as it's getting better. You should find the best setting for your bike very quickly this way. I hope this helps, please respond back with your result!

    Do you know if they had this TPS before efi because my 04 exc has that or a similar sensor and I can't tell if it's TPS or some kind of auto fuel shutoff solenoid to keep the bike from flooding when off or tps whatever it is I think it's bad or in need of adjustment because carb/Jets/lean and rich screw are clean and worked flawlessly at this elevation until all the sudden it started to bog and stall when you attempt to accelerate without choke on so I think the tps is in need of adjustment or broken fuel solenoid is stuck in the off or broken position not sure what it is or if it's broken is it difficult to pull these sensors out are they attached to anything???

    • @8180634

      Thanks for your comment. Yes the carbureted bikes from back then did often have a TPS, but that does not sound like the cause of the problem you're having. Check out the accelerator pump. On carburetors with accelerator pumps, when opening the throttle makes it cut out or stall, very often the problem is accelerator pump not working correctly. I hope this helps!

    • @8180634

      Thanks for your question. Double check the shop manual for the value, but I believe the factory setting is around 0.58V with the idle all the way out (throttle plate fully closed). If your meter reads in mV then it might show 580 instead of 0.58. That should be close enough to get the bike running (don't forget to turn the idle back up again) and from there you can easily fine-tune it by going up or down 0.02V at a time to see where you like it the best. I hope this helps!

    How did you like the performance after adjusting to .64 volts in this video?

    • @8180634
      @8180634  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a significant improvement. The most obvious difference is no more burbling and stumbling below about 1/4 throttle, it is just smooth now. After a little more testing I ended up with 0.63v as the best setting for this particular bike. 0.64v was just a tad rich and would occasionally flame out in the really tight stuff, 0.63v is perfect, runs great and no flaming out.

    • @8180634

      The service manual will give you the manufacturer recommended value and that's a good starting point. You didn't mention which bike you have, but if the TPS on your bike is adjustable (if the mounting screws are in slots so the TPS can be rotated) then you can adjust it to be a different value to see if that improves the performance.

    You have about 99% correct BUT unless your bike is producing exactly 5VDC to the TPS your kind of shooting in the dark. Best to send a verifiable voltage to the TPS while doing this.

    • @8180634
      @8180634  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment. Please google around and you'll see plenty of posts in message forums (Thumper Talk, ADV Rider, etc..) from the thousands of guys who have used this TPS Tool commenting about how well it works. :) The ECU actually does send an accurate 5V signal to the TPS, this is how the ECU reads the TPS while the motor is running. Also since you're not setting a specific value, but instead you're just going up or down a little to find the best spot, you could technically do it with any voltage as long as it's consistent between readings.

    • @200xcBruce
      @200xcBruce 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can assign any value and hunt around for a sweet spot, but the ECU being accurate and the instrument being less accurate you really are hunting and not using discreet information for tuning it. Your tool is worthy of using no doubt helpful, if you want to actually know the voltage going into the TPS and the position reading as a feedback a confirmed 5VDC is needed. Not a theoretical 5VDC or assumption. Take a look at Best Dual Sport bikes website he explains it best.

    • @8180634
      @8180634  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That guy has a financial interest in trying to convince people that an external power supply is needed, but I assure you it is not. The bikes ECU provides a perfectly fine 5v.

    • @paulschommer3763
      @paulschommer3763 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I realize that this is an old post but the issue is that the ecu puts out an exact 5 volts. If your meter is inaccurate (reads 4.9 instead of 5) then your setting of the TPS will be off because of the meter, not the 5 volt supply. That is what the 3rd wire is for. Make sure your meter reads 5 volts across the 3rd wire to one of the others before starting adjusting. One wire should read 5 volts and the other will read 4.4 volts or so.

    does this work for a 2012 350xcfw

      Yes it does. But be aware that since the XCF-W does not have a key, you would need to bump the start button to power up the TPS for about 8 seconds at a time. Or you could just let the motor idle to keep the TPS powered up. Or the most convenient option is the Pro Powered meter, which powers the TPS for you. This video shows you how to adjust a non-keyed bike. It shows a 350SX, the TPS on your bike will be much easier to access but the adjustment will work the same way. The video shows both the pigtail and the powered meter: th-cam.com/video/v1OXY5_jAv4/w-d-xo.html

      @@8180634 okay I need to try some things I'm having a problem with the bike starting so I'm just looking for a few things that I can check when ... and whenever I bought it the guy was running it with the idle set very high so I was trying to figure out how to adjust do I have absolutely need to have that voltmeter to or can I just do trial and error without it lol

      @@tjdukes7452 You "can" trial and error, but your odds are not very good. Check out the video I linked and you'll see how sensitive it is, then decide if you want to try to free hand it. Also I think spec idle on that bike is around 2000rpm, plus or minus a few (check the manual), so grab a tach and set it right as that can help a lot. The cheap hour meters from Amazon often come with a tach option. Also check the valves as valves that are too tight can really affect starting and idle a lot, actually I would check the valves first. If it kick starts really easily but the e-start doesn't work well then check out the torque limiter on the starter too, there are videos online about that.

      @@8180634 the bike kick-starts very easy the easy start button only works every once in it's to the point now where I think my battery is dead because all it does is click one time the fuel pump doesn't even turn over now

      @@tjdukes7452 If you suspect your battery then definitely try that first as it's quick and easy. Jump it from your car if you have cables and that might help answer the question right away.

      +Juan Maria Gutierrez Gracias, funciona muy bien! Yo sólo hablo un poco de español, así que uso el traductor de google, pero mi esposa habla español así que no dude en hacer cualquier pregunta y ella puede ayudarme a entender. :)
