I played juniors in 2004 during the lockout and it was hard. We had whl players coming down to play, which was crazy. Junior hockey is so watered down at this point. Even the wshl when i played there put multiple players into ncaa d3 and club d1.
USPHL Premier is comparable to Jr B (Jr AA in Qc) in Canada, but with high cost pay to play model. That cost is what will give players more practice ice time and an overall more professional experience than your traditional Jr B leagues. Until NCDC expands to Canada the Jr A (Jr AAA in Qc) have nothing to worry about other than maybe the GMHL and NJHL which are the weakest Jr A leagues in Canada operating under a pay to play model.
USPHL Premier is 2 levels below USHL. USHL is the only tier 1 league in USA (their comparable to Canada Major Junior in my opinion, although USHL players retain NCAA eligibility. NAHL and NCDC are currently the only tier 2 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr A in Canada). NA3HL, USPHL Premier, and EHL are the tier 3 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr B in Canada). USPHL Elite, and EHL Premier are the non official tier 4 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr C in Canada).
Why is he comparing the USPHL to the OJHL? They aren't even close. OJ guys may get a sniff at NCAA D1, while even NCDC is geared towards NCAA D3 and ACHA. Besides, the OJ is considered "Tier II Jr. A" while the USPHL is basically "Tier III" hockey. By that logic, the USPHL is in line with the GOJHL... except, it isn't. It's more like the "average" teams in the PJHL. You see, I say average since the very best PJHL teams can compete with low-end GOJHL teams. Going down the rabbit hole a bit further, the GOJHL is arguably Jr. A (yes, I know it's Jr. B) so that's saying A LOT about the PJHL league. Now, since that's understood, the PJ or GO is a better place for a Canadian kid... it's probably home and WAY cheaper. One of those "no brainer" things. Only thing is: they need better US college scouting. Maybe?
There's also College Universel Sherbrooke so 6 teams total in the USPHL Canadian Division
