For those who are replacing the entire outer lens assembly, I recommend using the existing wiring harness to simplify the replacement. The other wiring connection that Gearmo didn't remove also twist-locks into to rear of the lens but doesn't have a bulb. Instead it has a tiny white push-click connection that fastens to a circuit board. You disconnect the white male plug on the wiring harness by compressing the tab on the plug with your fingernail and it will easily separate. DO NOT pull the white female part of the connector off the circuit board! Dealer wanted $800 to replace broken tail light - bought OEM part from on-line Mazda supply for $290 and took me total 15 min. to replace.
Thank you so much. I did what you said and saved me a lot of ripping and tearing. Now all three rear lights gently blink a little brighter when the lights are on, about once every 2 or 3 seconds. Any insight to this problem? Thanks again for your advice

Thank you for this video! I'm 66 yr old female and I just replaced my broken outer tail light. The only part that was somewhat difficult was getting the the blinker plug apart. The other problem I need to fix is my hatchback. It is stuck closed. I do know how to go inside and get it open but it stays stuck as soon as you close it. Any suggestions?

They should have put a little removable piece of trim that is held in by tab so you can access that part of the headlight assembly instead of gutting the trunk
No kidding. A six inch removable panel would’ve done the trick. I guess I’m using the old wiring harness. Carefully removing the tiny white connector to the circuit board might be a challenge!
