    If you read the book you'll know just how godlike D really is. He can emit a hypnotic aura that disables anyone within 100 yards, his blue amulet activates an EMP to shut down all electronics, and if he dies his hand can revive him.
    Oh and the book will remind you how beautiful he is every single paragraph!

    You see this is why I like Alucard as a Vampire.
    D: Call me a monster again and ill kill you.
    Alucard: Yes, im a monster, but what does that make you? A man? A dog? Or perhaps a monster?
    Edward Cullen: Dont look at me. Im a monster.
    Alucard: Give me my orders. I will kill without a moment of hesitation or a hint of regret. Because I am a monster.
    Some vampires are angsty about their circumstances, then theres Alucard.

      D is not a full vampire to begin with
      hes a human/vampire hybrid , A DHAMPIR
      i personally like D more as a character
      you SEE Alucard was just the re hash version of Bram stroker's Dracula
      and D has a way more creative and original sort of idea ,
      even though i love both ,i can see some more effort put on D's character since it was from scratch... in the manga he is almost nothing like that... he admits being a monster but a gentleman type of monster.
      D is actually the son of the original Dracula/Alucard .
      also other great Vampires , are Blade , Morbius and Dio Brando ( the perfect villain type vampire )

    USELESS TRIVIA: This movie was directed by the late Toyoo Ashida, who would go on to direct the 1986 Hokuto No Ken/Fist of the North Star movie a year later. Coincidentally, Kenshiro makes a cameo appearance as one of the townspeople before the shot with Greco and his groupies is shown. Speaking of Greco's groupies, one of them is clearly Kei from the Dirty Pair franchise. There is also one that resembles Yuria from HNK/FOTNS as well (Kei and Yuria, LOL).

    They are cyborg horses, not robots. And yes, I guess it is post apocalyptic. It's science fiction, horror and supernatural, along with old west themes thrown in. I think Kikuchi did a good job with VHD. (The novels anyway.) And the second movie that's based off the third book, Demon Deathchase, looks good. Has a really bad mistranslation of the word "dhampir" in the English version though.

    • @bernieburton6520
      @bernieburton6520 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Bennett might just be tired of vampires more than anything else. The amount of stories with vampires in them is pretty high in general. Not just anime persay. But all forms of entertainment have large numbers of vampire related tales, with a large number of books especially, but also movies in general. So Bennett may just be bored with vampires at this point.

    I bet some of you are wondering if anything is explained better in the book. Well, I have read the book. It did explain that it was a series of nuclear wars and people emerged after the catastrophe to find that all these mythological creatures emerge and hunters are wiping these things from existence in the hope that humanity can flourish once again. When it comes to the Victorian style, apparently upon having to start over humanity's attitudes and beliefs went back to something similar of Middle ages. Oh and that thing in his hand is a parasite that he uses to his own advantage in battle.
    The sequel does a much better job of explaining this shit. Does it explain everything? No. Does it explain enough so you aren't wondering what the fuck is going on in each scene? Yes.

    • @fireidar
      @fireidar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually the creatures were a-the result of mutations caused by the fallout from the wars and b-genetic experiments by the 'Nobility', more importantly Dracula himself. Dracula was trying to find ways to remove a vampires weaknesses. Yes and no Dracula was D's 'father'. However he was the result of his father's experiments, which is why he is so different. After the wars the Nobility taught human survivors to rebuild and everything they know, which is why it's a mix between middle ages styles and increased technology.

    Let explain some things: his left hand is a parasite that got to him when he was younger. After his father ( count Drakula or the ancestor) died. Good job on realising it was castlevenia 20 or more minutes into the movie. And as little since as this movie makes it is a great one. And if you think half as much as you open your mouth it would make much more sense

      I think the remaining members of Pink Floyd are more chill than that to drop the ban-hammer on a video using a clip from one of their songs. MAYBE Roger Waters would do that, but definitely not David Gilmore.

    Old video but I think that the anime was to show that eventually the transcendence has happened but no singularity. The few elites of society became that of Demons and Monsters which holds a different meaning then in the states. Kind of like kappas for rivers and lakes in folk lore. The retro setting was more for a western of the old west emotionally and gothic new England visually.
    Vampires have always held their European feel but this was always trying to compete with his other Tokyo Metro styles at the time. All in all I think that it's kind of a Masterpiece for its time and shows what the future could hold if there was a collapse of AI and our inner demons comes outward with science. The lower classes would still be human while the elites would be cut throat demons like vampires with will to grab power.

      The two form a symbiotic relationship. Later D gets the hand cut off and it drags itself back to him re-attaches itself to him. I would think maybe the hand originally belonged to someone else and eventually came into possession of D for some reason. - I'm surprised Sage hasn't done a review of the other D movie. This one is a guilty pleasure but the other one is very good!

    FOr anyone who cares, here's the hnad face's deal: "Nothing is known of Left Hand's past other than he did serve the Sacred Ancestor at some point before joining D. The nature of his being is unknown, Mashira is stated to be of his kind, implying there are more of him and he is a kind of species. Other than that nothing is known of how he was born or when and where exactly he joined with D. He seems to know the Crystal Palace Language. A language that is only known to those who lived 10,000 years ago in that area. This would place his age to be at least older than 10,000 years." - vampirehunterd.wikia.com/wiki/Left_Hand
    Yep, the official explanation is no explanation.

  • @naj5999
    @naj5999 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the subject of the movie not explaining the world's back story or the face in D's hand...there's 28 books that have been translated into English. I've read them all. They never really explain it. They tell you there was several nuclear wars (so the setting is actually a post-post-post apocalypse) and that the face in his hand is a parasite that attached itself to D a long time ago. There, you now know just as much as I do 28 novels later.

      This OAV was my very first Anime I watched as a small child. D left the biggest impression on me as a kid. I own both movies and buy the original novels, translated and distributed in English by Dark Horse Comics and Digital Manga Publishing. VHD: Bloodlust is based on the third novel "Demon Deathchase."
      As of now, There are over 21 novels released. I am on volume 20 or so. Great material and Left Hand gets a great amount of page time. The next book, yet to be released seems to have Left Hand take over D's body as D seems to have suffered a serious bout of Sun Syndrome, and is in a semi-catatonic state while D recovers.

    You know, I didn't even know that this movie existed until about a month ago even though I've been reading the books and watching Bloodlust for years. That being said this review had me laughing like crazy. I can understand how someone would despise this movie with it being so laughably dated by current standards. I honestly don't enjoy the movie. I DO however respect it as a classic for it's time and a stepping stone in history. I much prefer the book to the movie as the book is much more well done. That being said I truly enjoy Bloodlust.
    Side rant: You think that YOU have beef with Twilight? Try living in Port Angeles WA (about an hour away from Forks) and getting asked every week, I kid you not, "DO you know Edward". That's actually the story behind my username. SOOO many people asked me what team I was on that I decided to pick one! No I'm not a "fangirl" I just picked the only team I respected.

    In the event after all these years you still care about it, Sage...
    Left Hand (yes, thats its name) is a "Countenanced Carbuncle"... They are genetically engineered living "computers" (for all intent and purpse), ment as parasitic organisms that bond to a host chosen by the Vampire King (also known as the Sacred Ancestor).
    Also...
    You were probably joking at the time... buuut... yes, everything from Frankenstein's Monster-like creatures, to Demons, to Robots (obviously, since D's force is a Cyborg), to Cthulu-like "Alien Gods" AND their alien followers... are in the novels.
    ...I am not making that up.
    Cthulu, Aliens, Demons, Robots, and Monsters... along with Dinosaurs, Werewolves, Vampires, and whats left of humanity. Vampire Hunter D is a funny old thing, isnit? :P LOL

    Vampire hunter D was the second best anime I've ever seen the first being Akira. Sorry you think it's dumb but that is just your opinion doesn't make you right. And I've found that learning everything about a cool character isn't always best. You gotta leave somethings to mystery. Personally I'd rather see a movie about a mysterious character kicking some ass than a movie that is explaining every little damn thing about the character leaving no time for any real action.
