Here are some more tips gathered from everyone's experience, feel free to comment your own and I'll add them. Cheers BEFORE TRIGGERING THE MISSION - Save your game! so you can reload it to that point if you didn’t catch the MFT on your first go START OF THE MISSION - Reach the herd and stay at a distance - Slowly approach the herd to make them move - Enter eagle eye to identify the tracks (note they won't appear until the horse actually start moving) - Place yourself behind the MFT aligning yourself with the horse - go in eagle eye to activate the tracking by pressing right bumper, might say "herd" or "unknow animal" - Make sure the track out the MFT turns blue - Continue pushing the heard while making sure your tracking bar doesn’t deplete by triggering eagle eye before it runs out until Albert Mason takes his photo. - Keep going into eagle eye as needed while you approach Albert to trigger the final cut scene - Make sure your tracking bar is as full as possible before triggering the cut scene - SKIP the cut scene as soon as possible - Trigger eagle eye right away after the cutscene. - Turning around, you should see the blue track in the water in front of Albert AFTER THE MISSION - The trick at that point is to reach the MFT as fast as you can as the horse will keep running away. - It may take you 2-3 tries to master the tracking bar rhythm - Once you know where the horse is heading you can reach the location faster and avoid patches of trees and where the horse goes around. - You may lose the track in the topography; it will reappear a bit further away if you continue to the direction it was heading. WHEN YOU REACH THE MFT - Once you reach the horse you won't have to track it anymore - Level yourself parallel with the MFT, trying to match its speed and direction and jump on it - The "jump on horse" mechanic is fiddly, be patient. - Once you jumped on the horse you will have to tame it as any other wild horse. - Once tamed Bond with it to at least level 1 before dismounting. - Note that if you dismount it at that point, you won’t be able to saddle it or climb back on it ***SAVE YOUR GAME and then reload it so you can saddle the horse ride it again***
A Pro tip is to raise the color on your tv or computer to make the blue tracking trail stand out more easily against the other white trails. Turn your saturation or color all the way up.
TIP BY SOMEONE WHO SPENT 5 HOURS DOING THIS: Chase that horse like hell as soon as you begin tracking it after that final cutscene. Of course, don't let the tracking meter deplete all the way but also don't let that stop you from chasing that horse as fast as you can. Lastly, once you spot the horse and you are next to it, cancel tracking so that the prompt to jump on appears as this wont happen otherwise. All these methods proved the best success for me, happy hunting!
For chapter 2 u need to Shoot mich with dymaite arrows and kill him and pick his gun up and in chapter 1 to get his relover u need to do old freinds where u kill the oh distral and u have to disarm 1 and And have him chase u to mich and Him and mich going to get in fight and he going to disarm mich and u can pick up his gun and keep it also it the best gun in game
(UPDATE: DO NOT GET OFF THE HORSE UNTIL LVL 1 BONDING BECAUSE IT WILL NOT LET U BACK ON THE HORSE, - Im returning to this video after getting the Missouri Fox Trotter to say: OMFG I literally had to track this horse down over what felt like a million miles, and not only that but it's even worse trying to jump onto the horse when it's final roaming place is in the forest with a whole bunch of trees, but after all 2 hours of me running around I will say a few things to help you. - 1.) If you have the raven black Shire, get the saddle that lowers the stamina drain by 50% or something good like that for chasing it down 2.) Make sure you at least have a 1½ hour to dedicate toward getting this horse. 3.) When tracking this horse don't try and do it on foot it will add a whole other hour. 4.) Don't try and use a lasso cuz it will not work. 5.) Don't try and stealthly approach it on foot because it will take off and you will have to track it over another 1000 miles. 6.) Once you have it in sight, never lose it or you'll risk having to restart because it will take you a very very long time to find it. 7.) Don't take trying to get this horse as a fun experience... It is not, although the reward is priceless (kinda) --- The End♥️. --- Epilogue (I'm literally crying because I lost the horse due to a stupid glitch where it won't let you back on. )
I got to lvl 1 bonding got thrown off because of a bear, and it still wouldn’t let me back on. But I managed to save it right as I got the horse, reloaded the file, then the game let me ride it
I traveled from where the mission started all the way to the very top of Roanoke where the legendary moose is, easily jumped on and tamed it on the first try just to have my horse run infront of me and knock me off. I tried to scare it to jump back on but it wouldn't move so I had to restart and it wasn't a straight shot either the horse did loops in certain areas and it took forever just to find it. All that work just for my horse to be a dumbass and get me knocked off of it's replacement.
I do believe, yet I don't know in this situation that if you're close-ish to the horse, you can get off your horse, and speak occasionally to it in order to break it, but mounting is still required. It's not easy, but it can be done. I did it before, feel the shock, which is equal to it's uneasiness. Required to spook horse with lasso first.
Worked for me as of 15 December 2022. I did the exact steps you told and worked like a charm on my 4th try. The horse tracks led me all the way to Annesburg so that’s where I tamed him.
@@DeltaKilo9 u cannot lasso the horse you can only jump on him when the horse is near you and then dont get off just ride on him to the nearest stable then press the saddle up option and come out of the stable. After this get off your horse make a save and reload it. The horse is yours!!
This is a great guide. If you're reading this comment and you haven't finished the video in its entirety, make sure you do or you will be extremely upset when you come to found out that Rockstar put measures in place to make sure you didn't get this horse in this mission. You have to do the process right, and in order to do so you need to watch the whole video. Tracking it down is much harder than wrangling it, in my opinion. For me, I attempted to track it traditionally like you would hunting several times in multiple attempts and eventually got frustrated due to the extreme complexity of the path that the horse takes. It seems to eventually despawn. I gave up trying to track the horse down deliberately, and only began tracking it after it disappeared over the little hill with trees at 03:59. 5 times out of 10, I was able to *just barely* watch it crest over the hills (which are ridden on in the video at around 04:20). Actually following the scent line constantly and not allowing the track meter to fall off is less important than staying close enough to the horse's render range that its trail line doesn't despawn outside of eagle eye. in short: ignore the actual "hard-tracking" decaying meter, and use your own head and a "soft-tracking system" letting the meter expire, while maintaining FULL gallop into the direction of the silver dapple pinto's travel, referring to your eagle eye to make sure that the smell trail hasn't disappeared. once you see the horse, just make beeline straight towards it asap so you don't lose it. it is EXTREMELY fast and LOVES to hairpin to get away from you.
Yeah good point, once you know where it's heading and what to look for it's faster that way, once you see the MFT you don't need to track it at all, a couple of times i lost it over some hills but it didnt despawn either.
A few more tips: - you can use the carriage at the railroad station to block the path where the horses are running to get your self some extra seconds. - If you are not good at tracking, just run as fast as you can till you spot the horse. - (IMPORTANT) If the horse bucks you off, you won't be able to jump on it again. - Walk around with the horse until you are lvl 1 bonded, might take a while because it won't let you pet it. DONT GET OFF THE HORSE. - Have your main horse follow you and go in the stable, saddle it and then go out of the stable on it. - Reload the game and it's yours. (Optional) Make an extra save where you have your horse so if it dies you can always go back to where you had it already tamed.
I just got my Silver dapple using this technique so it still works!!! The commenter that said ride hell for leather after her was on the money. You want to get to her as quickly as possible while refreshing the tracking. Once you get her in your sights let the tracking run out and try to be patient when attempting to jump onto her. It make take a minute but eventually Arther makes the leap.
Oh yeah once you get the track bar timing, the faster you catch up to the horse the easier it is. And yea you're right, once the MFt is in sight you don't have to track anymore, just be patient hahaha
It took my about 20 tries. I actually had to log off a few times from swings and misses. It was the single most important mission I’ve ever undertaken in ANY game on-line or other omg! Finally I got it!!!! And my entire family heard about it lol! Great video and great commentary. Nicely done!
How do u re do it please tell me i have done it but i lost the horse first try i tried closing thinking that it wouldn't save the mission but it did and i don't know how to re do it someone please tell me
Thanks for this. I got it on my 4th attempt. Just a note skipping the cut scene isn't optional, you will lose the trail if you watch it and like some others have said make sure you get to the horse quick. I followed the trail slow and at some point it got trapped in an area and I couldn't work out where the track ended up going because it was hilly and there were tracks everywhere so I couldn't find its exit point
Oh my God! Thank you so much for this guide! 08/02/2021 (ultima edition) everything works! I got my Boudicca! But, it takes a lot of patience and a lot of trying! I'll tell you from myself - turn off autosave, save before starting Albert's mission. After you skip the scene where he gives you a photo - turn on Eagle's vision and, without turning it off, go in the direction of the tracks + see where they go. Then chase on the horse, but try to go fast, otherwise the horse will go far + it can leave many tracks and you will get lost in the tracks. When you see a horse - DO NOT JUMP ON it NEAR THE CLIPPERS! (my mistake, she dropped me right away, I died and had to make 5 more attempts). Do not forget to take her straight to the stable, saddle there, get out, save and re-enter. Good luck to all!
Finally got it on my second try on tracking after several restart misson 😭 Took me an hour and a half until i find this weird floating trail along the west side of kamassa river... turns out it lead to the horse! Thanks for the guide too!
29/4/2024 as of today i am the owner of the silver pinto!! Edit: "First step is to manually save the game before you start the mission! Disable auto save and then continue! You are going to need the save to reload if/when you lose the horse and you want to restart and this will happen many times 😅" I used the way on this video and i was able to catch the horse! Let me clarify this is not easy!! I can easily say that this was the hardest thing i had to do on the game but it works :) also tried other ways that you are supposed to chase the horse without tracking but i was never able to find the horse after the scene in the end of the mission! The way on this video is the only thing that worked for me! Happy chasing/tracking
I have tried fir a long time to get the horse and wasn't able too! It never let's me mount! I thought it got patched! Thank you for renewing my hope I'll keep trying!
Still works 2022-04-23. Thank you! I did what the instructions said, took me 3 complete reloads and about 1h irl time. A few tips, if they haven't been stressed enough: - Set up camp near Mason and sleep until morning, then approach the quest FIRST Thing in the morning. It easily takes 10 irl minutes to track the horse and you do not want to be in northern Roanoke at night, there are bears and cougars. - Keep trotting/galloping at a steady pace whilst tracking, keep up your pace and go in and out of eagle eye. Do not linger too long in eagle eye, just go in for a second to refresh the track and then out again. Keep moving! - When you lose the track through a cliff or hill, DO NOT continue too far without seeing the track on the other side. Make sure to keep your eyes on it, get over the "invicible" part, and right into eagle eye to refresh track. If you do lose it, circle back sooner rather than later to a safe spot and refresh the track before trying to move ahead again. - When you can see the track really far ahead in a some what straight line, try picking up your pace a little bit more since the horse is _running_ away from you the whole time. Just keep an eye on the bar and stay right upon the track when not in eagle eye. The. bar decreases faster the faster you go BUT saying right upon it makes it managable still. - I found my horse at a mountain side between Doverhill and the legendary moose spawn, north Roanoke. I tried to keep herding the horse into that area and away from the cougar spawn closer to the road. - The horse sprints a bit and then it slows down to a stop, and repeats. ONLY try to jump on it when it's stopped. Be patient. When it's about to stop it doesn't matter if you sprint towards it, it will not spook, it remains its running pattern. So when the horse is slowing down, you sprint to get your horse side by side and make an attempt at a jump. You'll have half a second when the button shows up, but you will make it. - I forced the horse towards the waterfall and thankfully it did not go in for a swim. This is where I got my fraction of a second to press square and I got on and tamed it successfully! - Feed the horse, brush it, make sure to gain lvl 1 bonding right away.
I have followed it to the spot where you see him spot the horse in the video and the trail just does a loop and ends. I tried multiple times. I wanna say the glitch is fixed but maybe not since you did it recently?
@@mistymane52 sadly I can't give you any other advice than to keep trying. As per my comment I did this only 3 weeks ago and I don't think that there's been a patch since then. I wish you the best of luck 😊
@@rodrigosccp2 sadly I missed your question a year ago but it might help someone else: mine was a female. I actually can't recall that any of the first two failed attempts were male either, though I can't guarantee they weren't
Started the story again as I love this game and already completed 100%. Always wanted a different horse than the Arabian for Arthur and this method is amazing. Early in the game you get one of the best if not the best horse. Tracking can be tricky but it’s so satisfying when you get it done. Thanks for the video
Oh yeah, first playthrough i went with the white arabian too but always found them too small a bit the MFT seems to be a good size and good stats for an outlaw haha
June 8th, 2021. Still works on PS4. Had to try for dozen or so times. Through wind, rain, and Murphy brood. Finally got it! Good luck, be patient, and hold down the jump to horse button when the option appears!
It's easier to get the Turkoman in Chapter 3....then you can easily get the champagne Missouri in Chapter 4 from Scarlett Meadows Stable, using the wagon method
Nice guide, still works Jan 2022!! My little tips for when you successfully jumped on her back: 1. Use eagle eye as much as you can when breaking in, as you can’t calm her, and eagle eye slows the game speed right down for a much easier control 2. DONT GET OFF HER!! Ride straight to stable using main roads so you don’t fall off her back, once you fall off her back, everything needs to be re done. 3. Once you are in stable, set her as your main horse, and save the game, reload it, you’ll be able to dude her normally.
after trying, trying, and trying, (forgot how many failures) finally, i got it! Great video, you earned my sub! Rockstar Games never thought this one would become the most challenging and attractive task of the entire story.
It's high key important to stay in eagle eye track mode as long as possible before entering back into Albert's post-photo cut scene, then "skip" his cut scene so the tracking hasn't had time to run out of the bar. That and your info on going forward if you lose the blue tracking path at the hill... Ya will pick it back up on the other side of the hill heading towards the river! That tidbit saved me right before I gave up.
Good tips right there! I normally enter the cut-scene while in eagle eye, not taking any chances haha and like you said, skip it right away and go back in eagle eye.
You actually want to track the horse for as _short_ as possible before speaking to Albert. You want to get a super fresh click of Eagle Eye if possible, and then immediately speak to Albert and skip the cutscene. If you track the horse for too long before speaking to Albert then there won't be enough of the bar left even after skipping his cutscene and you'll definitely lose the trail.
Can confirm, it still works. Just be careful as I got hit off the horse and it wasn’t bonded yet so I just fed and brushed it until bonding level 1 then I did 1 more time so it appeared as my other horse on the map. (Basically just keep brushing or feeding until it shows as your horse on the map)
Got it after almost 10 tries. As frustrating as the process is, it's really satisfying to make this beautiful horse yours. Here's my take on how you need to approach. 1. Don't lose trail at any time. 2. Don't forget to stable it and then save and load your saved game. Cheers
Still works on 26th of October 2021, took me around 20 minutes, let me give a few tips. 1. Pop a (potent) horse stimulant right before you start herding the horses as to not run out of stamina when chasing the trotter. 2. When chasing the track don’t move slowIy. The horse is hella fast and the longer you take to get to her the more she’s moving away from you and the more time there is for you to lose the trail. I held down gallop at all times and activated hunting vision as soon as the bar hit halfway. 3. As soon as you’re within distance of the trotter cancel tracking, you will not be able to jump whilst tracking. 4. DO NOT get off the trotter before having visited the stables! I actually got it first within 5 minutes but I got off to bond with her a bit and ended up having to restart due to not being able to mount it again. 5. Don’t get demotivated by the comments saying it took them 5 hours. It’s not too difficult and is definitely worth it.
Excellent tutorial. Took me 4 tries all because I kept losing the trail after the end of the mission. Almost lost it again on my successful attempt. Key was looking far ahead at the trail made it easier to spot when you have a million other trails in the way. I had no issue hopping on and taming. Alot of snakes and bears tried to stop me...jerks.
Still works, best advice I have is to ride as fast as you can to catch up to it. Second is when initiating tracking, make sure the blue line is going to the correct horse, if not stop and start tracking, if can't lock on, reload and try again. 👍
As of 8/11/23 this still works. The jump to other horse is a little glitchy so be persistent. Once bonding get to level 1, save the restart and you’ll be able to mount and unmount.

2022/10/25 - still works. My pleb tips - you don't need to press 'focus on track' every time. Once you track the correct horse, it's ok to just switch to dead eye for a bit to continue tracking. Another pleb tip - be very slow around Albert as the track will disappear if you time it incorrectly. Do it exactly as in the video to keep the track there. The rest is ez, follow the track, ignore the hills and proceed if the track is invisible, once done and you see the horse - time it to jump on the horse, feed to lv 1, manual save, stable, save again, reload game. At least i had to reload to mount the horse, it was broken. Good luck
Works as of 12/18/22 Tips: After albert captures picture, don't go to albert, go to horses. They stay in a group. Kill the 4 horses and leave the MFT alive, it will save you time so you know you're tracking the MFT. After that track the "herd" and then go to albert and keep clicking the track so it doesn't use it all up, go to cut scene, follow it. It took me forever to track the right one and only managed 1 time to get it, then i was like ill just kill the horses lol and it worked like a charm. The jump to horse button will only work on flat ground or semi flat ground, just keep at it. And if it bucks you off you can keep getting on it. I tamed it after 3 time bucking me off. Also try to jump on it where there is no trees, because it kept bucking me off when i hit a tree.
Yeah the trick i found to track the MFT is to to let the heard run a bit, go in eagle eye and start tracking the grey that comes out of the mft. Thanks for sharing your tips too! cheers
7/2/2021 I can’t believe I actually got her! Took me forever. The tracking was hard but jumping on her even harder. Even bucked me off once but I managed to track her right away and safely got her to the stable and saddled her. I saved and reloaded the game and she’s officially mine. Btw, the Moonstone pond didn’t work for me. Thank you!
Hey, yeah i tried the moonstone pond once but didnt have the patience and yeah the jumping on the back of the horse mechanic is not the best mechanic in this game haha that's where i took me longer to time it properly. Glad you got it though! Cheers
@@harshlekhwani_71 haha you can try but when I tried to do it i wasn't able to do anything, the horse was just agitated and i could not feed it or pat it at all.
was so stressful but i finally got the trotter! 😃 super difficult to jump on horse through woods, so try to chase it into the plain grass. also don’t freak out when you can’t saddle up it, just put in stable and save the game. beautiful horse, thank you for the video tutorial👍🏻
Honestly my favourite horse in the game is the one which you get after interrogating one of Colm’s men in the barn Dutch tells you to search in chapter 1. Not cause of the stats or anything, cause they suck on this horse but because of the sheer beauty of the look of it, it fills me with joy every time I ride that horse in the game.
Huge huge thank you for this, I got the game a few days ago but immediately knew I wanted this horse. I'm currently on Chapter 3 and didn't know I could get this horse early. Managed to get it first try thanks to this video, so thank you for explaining everything so clearly and easy to understand!
@@m.n.s.s2825 It's possible, there are a couple challenges that require you to go to New Austin to do them, put it's possible with the covered carriage method. There's plenty of videos about it on TH-cam.

Awesome. Achieved on steam 5/27/21, pretty much followed the exact same path. Much better than the stupid lake glitch and feels well earned. Thank you for the solution.
@@arkenstone6964 It's the black arabian, you can get it for free in St-Denis with a random encounter happening at night. There's a video on the channel on how to get all the free Arabians in chapter 2. cheers
Guys complete the hosea mission first in order to get access to stables... I learnt it the hard way, took me 5 time to finally get the horse, only to realise there arent any stables to go to...
This was excruciatingly hard. Tracks kept randomly dissapearing or overlapping, my horse kept knocking me off for no reason, it was fucking annoying. But after two hours of trying and losing my sanity in the process, i finally managed to get it. Thanks for the video!
This works! Took me 5 tries, but I got her. Another tip: bring a well fed, agile horse when trying to catch it. This makes it easier to get next to it and jump on it's back. One of my chases took so long my horse died from hunger. xD
Thanks for the video bro! 7 attempts and a couple hours but I got her! Hardest part was following the trail to the horses location. Remember to hold left thumbstick down while breaking horse in. Don't give up!
Just did this today (02/2022) and it was the hardest thing I've ever done in a video game. Here's my tips and tricks from nearly 6 hours of gameplay. - Save before entering the mission. You'll need that save point dozens of times. - Get right behind the MFT to ensure you're tracking the right horse. - Keep spamming Dead Eye while herding, you can actually have dead eye active while the dude takes the photos. It will display their traces the photo cutscene. - Keep deadeye on until approaching the guy and triggering the cutscene. - Skip cutscene immediately (!) - Press deadeye again - Mount horse - Go after the MFT not in full gallop because you'll lose the trace in no time, but still IN A HURRY! Don't start wanking around! The MFT is always at risk of unspawning if you get lost. - Track the MFT in trot or slow gallop. Keep in mind that she runs like a bunny and sometimes goes in circles. Do not get confused! Stay on the blue line only! There are three possible routes that I encountered and all of them lead to slightly different end points along the river. Beware of bears attacking your horse during the search. This way, I lost the track a few times. Also, do not get confused by the track disappearing on inclines and on rocky surfaces. You'll need to look around to find it again. - Once you found the MFT and it notices you, STAY ON ITS HEELS (risk of unspawning or disappearing if you lose it or once gets scared and runs too far away - mine went up the mountain and then supposedly disappeared inside it...) but DISABLE (!!!) DEADEYE! You will NOT be able to jump on the horse if tracking is active! I learnt this the really hard way! - Keep on its tail and try to get your horse alongside it. You can either go next to it, which is very hard in the forest, or catch it in one of its bunny turns. It also slows down if you keep the pressure down, but DO NOT let it get out of sight. - I had the horse disappear on me at point blank range once while getting close, do not smash your input device. - Jump from your horse to the MFT to equip it with a bridle. Be aware that the jumping mechanic is frustrating and requires a certain amount of time in which your horse stays next to the MFT. - Try to tame it in one go. This is difficult because the calming button does not work (same as lassoing and calling the horse does not work). - If you fall off, DO NOT BE WORRIED. The MFT will NOT disappear once you've got the bridle on. In this case, call your horse and go after it. You can use the tracks or you can go on visuals. - If your taming process takes longer, be careful not to lose the horse in night, fog and darkness. - Chase and mount the horse as long as you need. It's not a big deal if you get bucked off or the horse stumbles and falls with you. The MFT will be slower and less aggressive each time. - Take care of your main horse. The MFT is incredibly fast in a straight line and as NPC does not suffer from fatigue. Your horse does. Feed it while on horseback. My chase took me all the way to the Great Plains near Valentine, where even my trusted Black Arabian stallion was running out of steam. - Once tamed, STAY ON THE MFT. DO NOT DISMOUNT. - Feed the MFT with whatever food you have and brush it. This will give you Bonding Level 1, even if your horse will get temporarily obese. Bonding Level 1 is your life insurance in case something happens during transit to the stable. - Ride the MFT to the nearest stable. Avoid all kinds of predators, NPCs, side mission, and trouble. You can not afford to get killed at this point. Ride the MFT into the stable, stable it and equip your saddle. - Ride out of the barn. Pat the MFT. Do not get off. - Save and reload to have a fully functional MFT.
Yo I followed everything. Except when I bonded level 1 I got off n tried to put the saddle. I was crushed. I thought I had to do it again. Then I remembered when I had got the white Arabian I had went in with my regular horse but the Arabian somehow was in there. I said fuck it I'ma try it. I was up by Annesburg and I had it follow me to st Denis. I got to the stable and it worked. I quickly stabled it and put a saddle on it and I rode out on da prize 👍👍👍👍👍😂😂😂
I also got of her when I saved the game. I couldn't get back on. Again I freaked out. I loaded the game said a few prayers n when it came on I went to mount her n I did. I was relieved 😅😅🤣🤣
Confirmed this still works on PC (9/16/21) after 3 hours of trying......lol. My problem was I had speed lock on my keyboard settings and was going to fast with my horse causing me to loose tracking. I couldn't get the horse as soon as EJ did with a successful hit on the stagecoach but I was able to track the horse for about 5 minutes and caught it. My tip would be do a slow steady gallop so the tracking bar is the same speed and reset it at about half way. If you lose the blue trail I found it easier to just restart the mission instead of randomly looking for the trail. Practice makes perfect! Thanks for the video!
Yeah it works... It took a long ass time. Your technique worked. I can't believe I did that for that long. Also if your a first time doing this. Make sure you are always checking for the jump to horse cause that mofo takes forever to come up
Thank you! I'm starting over, rdr2, because I love this game. This was definitely a challenge but I followed your tip and after a while I got one of my favorite horses. Thanks again.
Man I thank you..👍👍 After watching this video, I tried it out. And it work. It took me 3 hours of following the trail 7 times, riding slow was the problem, so I speeded up and finally caught up to the horse. I did the same things you did to get on the her and it got a little tough, getting in position was hard. But I managed. This video help a lot. 👍👍👍
@@jonoingame It was a good thing I was riding an Arabian horse, to balance the speed of that horse to catch up, but mostly important, focusing the horse trail first you see it. Very clover😉👍
Still works as of 29/12/2022. Got it on my 3rd attempt. The comment about killing all the other horses before talking to Mason was really useful, would strongly recommend doing that. The hardest part for me was actually getting close enough for the horse to allow me to jump on but after I jumped on, I broke it in one try. Happy riding folks!
I just got it and bonded with it and even saved it in the stable and named it. But when I ride it it won’t let me go back on when I get off. Have you also had this problem and do you know how to fix it? I’d appreciate it if you’d help.
For anyone doing this in 2022, remember to finish the hunting mission with Hosea before you start the side mission for the MFT. Completing this mission allows you to remove your saddle. After you reach level one bonding, save and reload your game then remove your saddle from current horse and place on MFT.
If your first horse dies it also unlocks moving the saddle to a different horse. Edit: If you have two horses at camp when you do this Hosea mission, you will PERMANENTLY lose your temporary horse when you move your saddle from your main horse to the quest horse, as your former main horse becomes the temporary one and the quest horse becomes the new main one.
make sure you make a save to re do if you mess up but i followed all steps and got it second attempt just look up how to actually tame the horse once you jump on if you keep getting knocked off it’s actually easy to tame
Still works. Thank you. First time I missed the whole save/reload part at end. That’s important or you won’t be able to get back on. I rode him straight back to a stables, and then saved/reloaded after that. :)
After who knows how many attempts I finally did it!!!! I tamed the horse! Not sure if this is an exploit or makes it easier to adjust while trying to break, but I finally broke the horse by spamming my eagle eye ability. Not sure if that is a slows down time but not the taming meter or not but that worked for me.
Oh my god I did it in July,5. It's super frustrating. For all the people wanting to try this, it actually works so dont give up. You're gunna have to go fast while keeping the tracking meter filled to do this quick. Good luck.
Nice, glad you got it. Yeah i realised that the MFT keeps running away all the time, the faster you can get to it the easier it get...for phase one hahah for me it was jumping on it that was a bit more tedious!
@@Billson1983 no that’s a new one for me 😂 the trail appeared to stop on me in 2 attempts, it probably didn’t but I could not pick it back up. Never into the sky like I was tracking a Pegasus 😂
I tried this without having to track it and using the stagecoach from another video and it worked! If any of you are having trouble with this one I suggest finding a video about using the stage coach and not tracking .
Yeah the stagecoach can work well, both are on the same principle that you need to catch the MFT as soon as you can. It's good to use the stage coach if you dont like tracking for sure.
I can confirm that I did it on the 1st try with Arthur in Chapter 2 (02-03-2022)! I had the White Arabian, but I simply got tired of it, super happy with the MFT! Don't know for how long I'm gonna main it or if I'm gonna try and main another horse later on the other chapters. Thx for the video guide 💪🏾
@@Arem.YFndz7 Hey you can try mounting your main horse and jump back again on the MFT; then stable the horse or bound with it to lvl1 at least before saving your game, reload that save and you should be good to go. Cheers
Worked, 1st try. Make sure to stable the horse, put the saddle on and then get the horse out and then save the game, load the game on the save you recently did and now you can whistle and mount the horse when you want.
I know I'm late but you're a str8 up saviour of Silver Dappers! The part where you let us know that, if the horse leads the tracking up the hill and the track goes dead, just to keep going forward and the blue path will pick back up if we keep the bar full! I was LITERALLY ON MY FINAL ATTEMPT DUE TO ALWAYS LOSING THE TRACK AT SAME SPOT, i re-watched your video to see if I missed something minute. I was giving up until I then found the blue path again further toward the river. Your tidbit about the hill causing the path to seem dead, re-filled my Hope and WAMMO... got the Fox Trotter on the next attempt! I'm so stoked. I had went thru the Albert mason 3 mission yesterday , only to find out ya can't progress passed it to get the horse. Today I loaded up and the game had failed to save and I was back at the Albert Mason mission... I knew it was a sign to not give up . Spent a couple hours going for the Trotter and WAMMO ... Not I have the horse . I am fully stoked!!( P.S. y'all, this procedure still works as of SEPTEMBER 24 2021! rockstar pls don't patch it after all this time. Going though this painstakingly patient procedure deserves reward of the most beautiful horse in this beloved game !!
Oh yeah, glad you got it! And yes we don't want to see this one patched!!! I lost the track too at the beginning and was just going around in eagle eye when i found it back further up the hill. It does get easier after some trial, apart for the jumping on the horse section which whatever you do, is always fiddly haha!
I ALWAYS lose the track at the cut scene no matter how filled up I have the track. And I don't see it over the hill. ARGH! Been at this for two hours this morning.
@@ouchuwu2243 Hey it' from the stranger mission of Albert Mason, which is always at the same location, during day time. The horse will most of time run away in the same direction too.
After running into the infamous Murphy brood, falling of a cliff and feeling absolutely hopeless after re loading a few times, I finally found her !!! Thank you for making this guide, man you are awesome!!
Well. After about an hour of trying I have this horse. It is hard but worth the effort. Stick with it and read the notes. Lots of subtle stuff that is key. For example I couldn’t lock onto the MFT. It just said herd. He addresses this in the notes or video but it is very quick and an easy detail to miss but critical. Great video. Thank you!
7-29 it still works!! Thank you so much for the video. Just follow as he says and it’ll be yours. My only problem was focusing on the right horse. TIP : There will be a blue line from the horse you’re tracking. If the MFT doesn’t have the blue line, track again untill it does. It took me 3 tries following the video. First try I ended up tracking the wrong horse, second try I lost track of it. Third try I got it!! Just be patient, and make sure the MFT has the blue line coming from it. Thanks again for the video. I now have my favorite horse in chapter two!! You’re the GOAT 🙏
Thank you very much! And yeah good point, making sure the blue track comes of the MFT is key! I followed the wrong horse too the first time...lesson learnt haha
It worked for me too! (Oct 1, 2021) Gah it took like 5 tries, and at one point the track took off into the sky so I couldn't follow it. But it's soo worth it - she's so pretty! Thanks for the vid :)
@@DoctorGonzo91 Hey, no the horse keeps running away, trying to catchup to it as fast you can will make it easier. Once you know the route it's taking it's a bit easier to track and catchup to it. Cheers
worked as of 6/28 on PC! Took me a couple tries, the trick is to go fast after you skip the last cutscene. I also practiced on a wild horse a few times. Good Luck!
for anyone that got to tamed it and brought it to the stable, but can't mount it after buckling off, just save your game and load the save. it worked for me
Yesterday I got it for the second time! The first time was on the PC, the second on the xbox one x. And for me on a gamepad it was harder to do it. Well, I wasted 2 hours, but I found her! The first ended up near a dead end of railway tracks, and this one led along the Kamas River almost to an old abandoned fort. Good luck and patience to everyone! And again, many thanks to the author! P.S. music from the video played in my head throughout the chase 🤣
11/15/22 still works. I was extremely lucky and had her go towards Saint Denis one time instead of towards Annesburg. In between dodging crocodiles, she got confused in the knee deep water and the trees out in the swamp. I always had trouble getting the "jump to horse" option to come up, but I stopped tracking her and slowed down to a trot/canter and bumped into her while she was slow and turning around in the trees and that got the option to appear. It doesn't always work when you hit the prompt because hit boxes may not be aligned correctly, but eventually it will.
Aug 2022. Just got mine. It was a pain but got it. Pleaseeee...watch the whole video til its finished. Maybe 2 or 3 times. I was raging hard cuz i dismounted it and couldnt get back on it. All i had to do was save and reload the game and fixed. Good luck yall.
Holy sh*t, finally got it after more than 8 hours of grueling frustration that included throwing dynamite sticks at my Thoroughbred and setting it on fire multiple times for hitting a fcking tree while trying to jump on the MFT, as well as killing the photographer and even the Trapper and setting them on fire in the process. Whew. Anyway, you sir are a legend!
haha destroying the whole world, but not the horse!! Yeah the 'jump on the horse" thing is frustrating as the game isn't as responsive as it should but glad you got it at the end!
I tried this today (2021-10-11) and it still works. BUT remember that it *_will_* be fiddly work, i was lucky enough to do it on my first try (took me about 15-20 mins) but i wouldn't have been surprised if i would've had to reload a save.
Thank you! Got it on the first try following your instructions. Just took my time and tracked the horse and I now have this beautiful brave and fast horse. You're tutorials are awesome. Subscribed. Cool accent as well!
So during my time trying to get this horse I was able to get it but accidently dismounted I have found a fix for this. If you have any fire bottles then throw them near the horse this will spook it and cause it to flee during this If you mount your horse you are able to jump to it again however the fox trotter needs to be moving. Hope this helps
Did it today on PC, worked like a charm. Tracking the beast is the most annoying part, you can never let the track go stale even for a split second or you'll lose it. When you see the horse you can stop tracking. Oh... And also, make sure you're dead eye tracking the right horse. My first attempt i tracked it for like 10 minutes only to find a Kentucky Saddler....
Worked for me on the second try. You have to be super quick, sprinting towards the photographer, if the horse is located before the camera then the timing is good. If the horse already passed the camera during the cutscene then it’s too late. Go talk to the dude and skip the cutscene right away. Jump on your horse and follow the path of the horses in full sprint (it’s a linear pattern, you will see them around the woods) the hardest part for me was to jump on the horse.
@@readychalk5145 i somehow got it first try. If it helps, before you do the mission to get it, put a wagon in the path of the horse. It’ll block it and give you more time to find it
1st few tries I got no trail but forgot to track before getting to Mason. 3rd try I got a trail and managed to follow until it just went in circles near the Kamasa river and never found the horse. 4th try I just tried to ride as fast as possible with no tracking and no luck. 5th try I tracked and was pleasantly surprised to find the horse near a rocky cliff. Followed her around, jumped on once she was away from the cliff, tamed no problem holding LT and LS at 5 o clock, fed and brushed for lvl 1 bonding, rode to stable, equipped saddle, exited stable, saved, reloaded and now Arthur has a silver freaking dapple MFT. Took me about 1.5 hours on 8-25-2022. Thanks Jono and all others for the helpful tips!👍
Thank you so much for this video. Took me about 15 minutes to get the horse. if you do accidentally get off the horse and are unable to mount back up before horse bonding level 1, just feed it as it allows you to, and just have it follow you to the stables like the video instructs. Still working as of 25th Oct 2023.
Looks hard and I would love to have an MFT for my 2nd story mode play through but I've already got a damn fine white arabian, a pretty american paint and a few spotted appaloosa in Ch.2. As a long time RDO player I know horse stats don't matter that much once you're bonded high enough to regen stamina by pressing LS and you slap on those hooded stirrups on any standard saddle or obtain any of the specialty saddles that reduce stamina drain rate by 50%.
Great video!! Thank you so much!! I just got my MFT last night (I'm playing the game on Stadia). It was fun tracking her down and mounting her. Thanks! Just a reminder to other viewers: You must stop tracking the horse before you can mount, and you have to put away your binoculars too. Question: Are there any other quests in the game that can be extended into something fun and important like this one? Please please make a list. Thanks a lot!!
Hey, thanks! Yes there are other missions like this one with "missables" at the end or during it, there's a video on the channel to get the Braithwaite stallion for example; and more videos coming showing how to get some trinkets that one can miss. Cheers
Thank you for this! Watching in 2024 it still works! The horses are my favorite part of the game. Catching this one might be the hardest thing I’ve done in my life 😂
Here are some more tips gathered from everyone's experience, feel free to comment your own and I'll add them. Cheers
BEFORE TRIGGERING THE MISSION
- Save your game! so you can reload it to that point if you didn’t catch the MFT on your first go
START OF THE MISSION
- Reach the herd and stay at a distance
- Slowly approach the herd to make them move
- Enter eagle eye to identify the tracks (note they won't appear until the horse actually start moving)
- Place yourself behind the MFT aligning yourself with the horse
- go in eagle eye to activate the tracking by pressing right bumper, might say "herd" or "unknow animal"
- Make sure the track out the MFT turns blue
- Continue pushing the heard while making sure your tracking bar doesn’t deplete by triggering eagle eye before it runs out until Albert Mason takes his photo.
- Keep going into eagle eye as needed while you approach Albert to trigger the final cut scene
- Make sure your tracking bar is as full as possible before triggering the cut scene
- SKIP the cut scene as soon as possible
- Trigger eagle eye right away after the cutscene.
- Turning around, you should see the blue track in the water in front of Albert
AFTER THE MISSION
- The trick at that point is to reach the MFT as fast as you can as the horse will keep running away.
- It may take you 2-3 tries to master the tracking bar rhythm
- Once you know where the horse is heading you can reach the location faster and avoid patches of trees and where the horse goes around.
- You may lose the track in the topography; it will reappear a bit further away if you continue to the direction it was heading.
WHEN YOU REACH THE MFT
- Once you reach the horse you won't have to track it anymore
- Level yourself parallel with the MFT, trying to match its speed and direction and jump on it
- The "jump on horse" mechanic is fiddly, be patient.
- Once you jumped on the horse you will have to tame it as any other wild horse.
- Once tamed Bond with it to at least level 1 before dismounting.
- Note that if you dismount it at that point, you won’t be able to saddle it or climb back on it
***SAVE YOUR GAME and then reload it so you can saddle the horse ride it again***
is it just story mode or does it work online?
@@isaiahjimenez2803 Hey, it's a story mode mission only unfortunately. Cheers
A Pro tip is to raise the color on your tv or computer to make the blue tracking trail stand out more easily against the other white trails. Turn your saturation or color all the way up.
@@Truen091 Oh yeah good tip there! It will make the track stand out for sure! thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much it's frustrating trying to do this but so worth it
TIP BY SOMEONE WHO SPENT 5 HOURS DOING THIS: Chase that horse like hell as soon as you begin tracking it after that final cutscene.
Oh yeah it's finding the balance between running after the horse and managing your tracking meter, it takes a bit of time to master!

Shoot the horse 3 times in leg before the mission begins
Or just put your saddle on it. Hitch it and saddle it.
Worked for me as of 15 December 2022. I did the exact steps you told and worked like a charm on my 4th try. The horse tracks led me all the way to Annesburg so that’s where I tamed him.
It led me to the waterfall north of annesburg
damn i thought rockstar would've patched it. i'm trying to get it rn, on my third try
Tried this and i couldnt lock on with the lasso, how did you do it?
@@DeltaKilo9 u can't u have to jump on it and don't dismount before stabling it and if u still cant mount again just save and reload
Why wont the horse stay still it keeps bucking me off
A few more tips:
- you can use the carriage at the railroad station to block the path where the horses are running to get your self some extra seconds.
I was bucked once but got on my horse and tried again and did mount it and tame it from the 2nd attempt. Getting bucked once wasn't a problem for me.
Nicely done!
haha Glad you got it at the end! It's a good horse to have for sure!! Enjoy!

@@juicychicken6280 make sure save game before you do mission

Thanks for this. I got it on my 4th attempt.
Just a note skipping the cut scene isn't optional, you will lose the trail if you watch it and like some others have said make sure you get to the horse quick.
I followed the trail slow and at some point it got trapped in an area and I couldn't work out where the track ended up going because it was hilly and there were tracks everywhere so I couldn't find its exit point
yeah it isnt optional cuz cutscene in rdr2 are in realtime that's why
Nice glad you got her and thanks for your tips, I'm sure it will help others! Cheers
Finally got it on my second try on tracking after several restart misson 😭
Took me an hour and a half until i find this weird floating trail along the west side of kamassa river... turns out it lead to the horse! Thanks for the guide too!
Yeah that horse can take a weird route, but once you get the rythm with the tracking you can get to horse faster because it runs too far away
It feels good getting this horse and this video helped me big time it was easy to understand. Take care man
I have tried fir a long time to get the horse and wasn't able too! It never let's me mount! I thought it got patched! Thank you for renewing my hope I'll keep trying!
Still works 2022-04-23. Thank you! I did what the instructions said, took me 3 complete reloads and about 1h irl time. A few tips, if they haven't been stressed enough:
- Set up camp near Mason and sleep until morning, then approach the quest FIRST Thing in the morning.

It's easier to get the Turkoman in Chapter 3....then you can easily get the champagne Missouri in Chapter 4 from Scarlett Meadows Stable, using the wagon method
Nice guide, still works Jan 2022!!
My little tips for when you successfully jumped on her back:
1. Use eagle eye as much as you can when breaking in, as you can’t calm her, and eagle eye slows the game speed right down for a much easier control
2. DONT GET OFF HER!! Ride straight to stable using main roads so you don’t fall off her back, once you fall off her back, everything needs to be re done.
3. Once you are in stable, set her as your main horse, and save the game, reload it, you’ll be able to dude her normally.
I accidentally rided off and i need to do all over again :c i did it 2. Try but i nerd to do againn
Still works 2023 just prepare yourself for the most stressful chase in gaming history
after trying, trying, and trying, (forgot how many failures) finally, i got it! Great video, you earned my sub! Rockstar Games never thought this one would become the most challenging and attractive task of the entire story.
Haha I feel RS left it there to reward us for going through the pain of getting it haha
I did 1st try
How do u restart plz respond
I actually got it first try because the horse went into the river
I DID IT! Got it 2nd try. Make sure to skip the last cutscene of you'll lose your track after.
good point!!!
Lost my track and they were gone every single time. Not sure if it works anymore.
@@user-ef6cz9cx3g Did you end up getting it
@@DandyPanda No. Tried about 10 times and gave up.
@@user-ef6cz9cx3g it still works just gotta try and use eagle as close to the start and ending of the cutscenes as possible
Cheers
Yeah so many people forget to stable and save!
This still works in November 2022. Got mine on the fifth attempt, thank you for this tutorial it has been the best out of all ive seen
Great Resume ahha Glad you got it too!!
How did you find the trail after the mission?
Good luck
Works as of 12/18/22
Tips: After albert captures picture, don't go to albert, go to horses.
Thank you!

Nice, glad you got it!
- Skip cutscene immediately (!)
- Press deadeye again
- Mount horse
- Go after the MFT not in full gallop because you'll lose the trace in no time, but still IN A HURRY!
Thanks very in depth
I didn't save it :/
Yo I followed everything.

For anyone doing this in 2022, remember to finish the hunting mission with Hosea before you start the side mission for the MFT. Completing this mission allows you to remove your saddle. After you reach level one bonding, save and reload your game then remove your saddle from current horse and place on MFT.
I didn't even knew about this horse untill after the photographer mission :') im guessing i have to start over if i want the MFT

Nicely done my friend. Thank you for your time, efforts, and skills on this.
Thank you very much for the good words!! Really appreciated!!
Haha yeah I try to pay attention while tracking cause i followed the wrong horse so many time trying to rush it haha
23rd June - still works! Got it on my third try, thank so much!
This gives me hope
12th July, works like a charm on ps4. Thanks man I love this horse
if anyone is wondering skipping cutscenes on PC is done by using ENTER.
thanks for an amazing guide!!
Oh cool thanks for the tip! I never played it with mouse and keyboard haha
JUST DID THIS! THANK YOU BRO!
Nice, glad you got it! I’m about to get mine too in my new play-through!
Good to know this still works. I've tried twice (and rage quit) so I was hoping it hadn't been patched... I'll keep trying
@@readychalk5145 i somehow got it first try. If it helps, before you do the mission to get it, put a wagon in the path of the horse. It’ll block it and give you more time to find it
Yeah i did again today, it went to O'Creagh's Run this time, it took a bit of time to reach but it worked, on PS5 this time.
I finally got it, took a few days off cos it was making me frustrated but I tried again last night and am now the proud owner of a shiny new horse
This method still works as of 14th September 2021 just a pain to track it and chase it down to jump on its back.. nevertheless dont give up..
Cheers
You can get a black Arabian from a chance encounter in Saint Denis too
@@khimaros Yep true, there's a video in the channel on how to find it and the 3 other wild Arabians!
Thank you for this! Watching in 2024 it still works! The horses are my favorite part of the game. Catching this one might be the hardest thing I’ve done in my life 😂
I was waiting for someone before who can figure out that horse location but it's nice that it was really possible.
Thanks man got it second try after a lot of looking 👍
Nice, glad you got it!
I pressed RB by accident like 3 times when trying to slow down my horse
lol same thing happened to me
