    7. "Saturday Night Live" Commercial Bumper
    8. Promo for "Bob Hope's Spring Fling"
    9. Federal Express
    10. Jordache (Almost certainly influenced by 1980's "Urban Cowboy")

    12. Promo for "SCTV"
    13. Dristan Capsules (4:24 Aww man, so close...)
    14. Wrangler (Are out of control stagecoaches really a common modern-day problem?)
    15. Vivitar Camera (If that's really what the Easter Bunny looks like, you can keep the damn candy and eggs...stay out of my house!)

    17. TV Spot for "Alice In Wonderland"
    18. "Saturday Night Live" Commercial Bumper
    19. Pentax Cameras
    20. Miller High Life
    21. Bonjour Jeans (Very odd)
    22. TV Spot for "Knightriders" (I guess this is where the TV show got the title?)
    23. "Saturday Night Live" Commercial Bumper
    24. Bershire Place Promotional Consideration
    25. New York Daily News Tonight
    26. Coca Cola
    27. Kellogg's Product 19 Cereal
    28. Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (Sorry for dupe)

    2. Saturday Night Live Commercial Bumper- Not only does this woman look half asleep when this picture was taken, but the Carousel horses in the background look like nightmare fuel, too.

The Pentax commercial was very heartwarming.

Knightriders is a gem. It may be George A. Romero's best non-zombie movie. And yes, that is Ed Harris at 7:54

"You don't even have to move an inch" Unless you're like me and nine times out of ten the delivery driver can't find your apartment so they put it on a different doorstep.

From Your Good Old, Good Olds Guys! That jingle lasted for a long time in New York, at least until the mid 90s!
There's our mysterious WNBC Kawwwasaki voice again, a little less creepy this time. Although the 650 CSR seems to remain a popular motorcycle model according to my research!
But dear lord get that Vivitar bunny OFF MY SCREEN! 10 seconds was too much!

5:04 - This Easter Bunny should have been the hellish nightmare Ted Theodore Logan saw during his visit to Hell…

Adjusted for inflation, $2.69 in 1983 is about $7 in 2024. So why in the world is the Denny's Super Bird Sandwich a third the size but sold for $14!?

These are from 1981 so the adjusted price is actually $9.37. I get what you're saying though. Corporate greed has driven up food prices to an insane degree.

Denny’s 80s prices were incredible. I also love the happy Denny’s jingle that played in all of their ads of the era.

    Kronenbourg Beer-it cures boredom
Denny's Super Bird Sandwich-what did they feed said bird..
    Budweiser-@1:16 "I wasn't cheating on you,i swear!"
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme-The Good Olds Guys..could be a good title for a movie about mob enforcers in Jersey
Federal Express-wonder if he ever knew the package was taken
Wrangler-"a modern Western tale..coming to NBC!"
Bonjour Jeans-plot twist:they actually were fluent in French
Knightriders-George's son should look into revisiting this property

Ironically the year the 80’s really kicked off the way current media portrays them was the Orwellian year of 1984.
1981 seems like it’s still trying to transition out of the 70’s.

The first two or three years of a decade will pretty much always feel a bit like the last two or three years of the previous decade. And mainstream culture, especially things like TV commercials, take a bit to catch up with current trends. New Wave music was beginning to get popular in 1981, MTV launched later that summer, video games like Donkey Kong and Pac Man were popular in arcades...there were plenty of "80s" things happening that year.

This is still definitively early 1980s, even if it is not of the same aesthetic and trends of the more currently popularized MTV age.

@@80sCommercialVault Was Bell-bottoms still in style in 1981?

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@WWJD85 By 1981 tight fitting designer jeans were more in style than bell bottoms. Disco culture was obviously still around but I think for the majority of people it had become completely oversaturated in pop culture and was a passé fad that had run it's course. What was disco transitioned into R&B, early hip hop and a host of other genres.

The concept of a evening newspaper is so strange to me even though I was born at the mid-point of this decade.
Like just the logistics of it makes me wonder how it lasted as long as it did, as a concept.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Until TV news took over, most major newspapers had evening or "late editions" to cover news that had happened later in the day. All this was advertising was a late edition of the New York Daily News.
