10:55 I love the sound of the papers ruffling after the announcer says "korvettes".
Amazing cultural history. Thanks for the post.
Loving these old ads! Also interesting how the Rutles movie, which appeared in prime time earlier in 1978 (I watched it!) was now a late night movie selection.
Thanks for sharing these old school videos I love watching them at night when I’m getting ready to go to sleep lol 😝!!! ❤
Wow, early VHS in advertising! And yet, this was recorded on Beta.
VCRs were very expensive in those days- about $ 1,000 in 1978.
Question… which format, in your opinion, was better quality?! Anyone….?!
17:22: Len Weinrib is the "Reporter"; John Stephenson is the "Editor"; John Erwin, announcer (and 22:41).
22:57- Nipsey Russell, Joey Heatherton, Burgess Meredith.
30:37- Joe DiMaggio for The Bowery Savings Bank.
Len Weinrib was also the voice of Timer in those nutrition PSAs on ABC.
I believe that’s Barnard Hughes doing the ad for Complete.
Great voice deconstruction on the Green Giant chicken chow mein.
There's the late Burgess Meredith in the Ray-O-Vac ad.
My seventh birthday!
14:28- At the time this was telecast, Bob Van Buren was on top as Chairman of MidLantic Banks. However, after his company made a profit of $209 million in 1989, it *LOST* $109 million in 1990.......and he was forced to resign in 1991, after 15 years. In 1995, PNC Bank acquired MIdLantic.
9:33 & 11:16 Peggy Taylor, one of NBC's best staff announcers.
29:25 And here is Peggy Taylor saying her name, which was a rarity for network staff announcers.
31:41 The deep, distinctive voice of Norman Rose.
Meanwhile, at WNBC on the live booth shift was Fred Facey on the "Donahue" promo, later to give way to Howard Reig.
Actually, on NBC's movie shows, it was S.O.P. for their announcers to I.D. themselves at the end. It wasn't just Ms. Taylor; the network's other Burbank announcers, Don Stanley, Donald Rickles and Victor Bozeman (and in earlier years, the likes of Frank Barton and Eddy King) likewise did so when they handled the movie shows.
@@wmbrown6 Great insight and knowledge as always.
0:10- B. Altman declared bankruptcy, and went out of business in 1990.
2:33- "'NBC LATE NIGHT MOVIE' presents......'All You Need Is Cash'."
3:43- Peter Thomas, announcer
5:19- General Mills makes Chex- and ready-to-serve Chex Mix- these days.
6:20- Dick Van Dyke for Kodak
8:31- Steve Franken
9:06- William Schallert as the "Cheese Man".
10:02- Shelley Hack; Bobby Short, vocalist
11:24- Paul Frees as the "Pillsbury Doughboy".
Thanks for the Steve Franken ID
Great classic tv commercials of the 70's and I was in the 7th grade back
then what memories.🇺🇲🤔📺🥲🇺🇲
👍👍👍👍
This is an odd question but would it be ok if I used this footage for something I’m working on? I’ll give you full credit for it. I fully understand if you’re not cool with it.
The Rutles: They created a legend that will last a lunchtime
Definitely Wendie Malick as a Thom Girl at 16:10
Thanks again!! Keep em coming😁
31:10 Tom Carvel
