Win Server by default typically runs the CPUs less hard / more efficiently for multicore processes, thereby causing the single thread apps to open slower. That can be changed in the power settings.

But the Kernel is same and OS interaction with bare metal is not paramount to server longevity it's the type of hardware you install that matters the most (for example ECC Ram, Server chip, Drives with parity error correction mechanism and proper RAID configs, etc).
      Windows Server is a sham.

2:05 it may also mean different thermal compounds under cpu, or paste applied on each ThinkPad with months in between, or different stages of dust accumulation, or the ThinkPad that is hotter(right) is to close to the ThinkPad on the left making it more difficult to evacuate heat efficiently, and the 91C limit on both could indicate a max thermal limit setting in bios before cpu throttling.

    A few things to consider:
    1. These laptops come with a ton of drivers that have to be installed manually on 2019 and it is possible you have some divergence there.
    2. Windows 10 comes with memory compression and software prefetch which might not be enabled on 2019 by default
    3. The battery/performance profile settings seems different between the two, hence performance it is better to be benchmarked on desktops where these things might be set the same by default.
    4. Windows 10 disk space "rot" over time is much more serious than the one on 2019 which makes the latter alot better with disk space management...

Also you really should shoot this on the same laptop. Even similarly spec'ed memory sticks, but slightly different, a different SSD or even dried out thermal paste on the CPU can affect these scores.

2:23 i can guess the fan curves are different , also you need to see if the server is on turbo or not, the Windows home does try to save power , that results in less heat. In the case of Windows server, power usage is not a problem

Before watching the video. At 0:20 (why choose microsoft server), well because then i'm absolutely certain there will be no BS in the OS. I'm using Microsoft (windows) Server 2022 - Datacenter edition and i'll never go back to consumer versions again. Default account is administrator, which I was already using in pro so that's perfect!
(ps: i know what i'm doing).
About loading times, windows server and pro is comparable. Boot times are the same.
Also, when conducting a speed test. You don't do it at the same time, for obvious reasons.

Main difference is Windows Server supports more powerful hardware. Windows 10 Pro has a max limit of 2 TB of RAM, Windows Server allows for 24 TB. A desktop user is unlikely even to consider such a large amount of RAM, but servers can make good use of their greater RAM capacity Windows 10 has a limit on processors as well. The Windows 10 Home edition only supports one physical cpu, while Windows 10 Pro supports two. Server 2016 support upto 64 sockets.Similarly, a 32-bit copy of Windows 10 only supports 32 cores, and the 64-bit version support 256 cores, but Windows Server has no limit for cores.

  • @estellebright2579
    @estellebright2579 2 ปีที่แล้ว

One thing worth mentioning. Software license on windows server tends to be way more expensive than on windows 10 counterpart. From 3x or so to 10x or higher. Sometimes windows server will need a license that is called “site license” compared to “personal/home license”.
And tbh, windows have come a long way that even personal use of windows 10 is good and stable enough that windows server’s extra stability and whatnot is not that necessary for most home/professional users, unless you legit run server grade software/hardware (e.g. ecc memory)

Windows server is designed to run Server Functions - Communications, Web Hosting, Domain Hosting Services, Production Services, Hosting CRM. There are also additonal functions that can be added such as image hosting services, domain and active directory hosting. I do know Programmers that use Server for Web Hosting and Functionality testing. Otherwise, there is not much reason to use Windows Server.

Well after win7 I switched to linux and I haven't even test any other win os so I cannot tell.
However back in the day we use to install windows server 2008 instead of windows 7. The deference was stability. After a tone of tweaking the server edition was as fast or faster and more stable than win7. The downside was some freaking drivers issues..
I can only guess that if you tweak win server 2019 the same way it could perform the same or even better...

haha, big sur, "free" but fu** me, that's a bloody expensive version of windows. lol.
Anyway, Windows Server comes with server software. It can support up to 24 TB of RAM whereas W10 is 2 TB if not mistaken. Windows server also supports more sockets (processors) than W10 by a lot. W10 allows 2 at most, if not mistaken. W-Server doesn't come with all that bloatware shit in W10 out of the box, like Edge, Microsoft Store, etc.
Therefore, in terms of a server perspective, Windows Server wins on the basis of the extra features. W10 is for the user experience whereas the Windows server is for the server admins to bitch about among ourselves. haha.

Difference in temp can explain differences in boot up times. Differences in temp can be explained in just that one thinkpad is dirty or more used, or different thermal paste, also can be just the silicon lottery, but i bet it is ambient difference, like the wind moving from left to right , so , the second is sucking air heated from the first thinkpad, and so on.

There is a couple of problems with your tests
1- its really improbable that both batteries have been used exactly the same throughout your laptopses lifes, therefore, its expected that one battery lasts longer than the other one, you should have tested with the same battery.
2- you can't test the wi-fi at the same time, wi-fi is a pretty messed up technology, its really hard to predict how its gonna perform, specially at the same time. Also there's the router firmware problem, its highly probable that your router just picked one of the laptops to give more priority for.
    Besides that, great video

Windows Server doesn't have a power saving mode because its an OS for servers and not for laptops. But every program you run in Windows Server, It have lot or resources like ram or disk, that Windows 10 probably make a software limit to a program like Chrome to make the system interface smoothly than a server.

ok some heres some things wrong
1, wifi test you ran them together and well wifi will prioritize some devices over others
2, the boot time will be different on what settings you use
3, 2019 was not the latest at the time of upload
4, app boot time, again depends on settings
5, everything depends on setting with windows server, and im going to guess you never configured it correctly
6, you can get windows server for free
7, virus scanning should have been done with windows defender since server defender is better and more optimized
8, whats the hardware in both devices, ssd? hdd? what cpu difference and ram, even at same ram size you can have big differences
9, I run windows server 22 and I can say that theres a noticeable difference in speed when configured correctly. instant boot, etc
10, what version of chrome are you using since I never can get chrome over 1.5gb even with tons of tabs
