This is one of those trends that allow a large number of people to participate in and give them some identity. I'm not bashing them I say more power to you man, not everyone is a professional athlete but we can all find something like this to get in shape and get some competitive experience, plus the comradeship. That's what got me into power lifting, and it takes some time and effort to get the form to do Olympic lifting, I know I suck at it but I hope to get better.
To anybody talking trash about Crossfit...seriously? These guys run 5 minute miles, clean 300+lbs, do nearly 100 unbroken pull-ups...be jealous, not stupid. Such a great sport.
Those are usually the beginners that are starting to find a niche. The vast majority of crossfitters out there that truly understand what the program is all about, whether they compete or not, are some of the most humble and supportive people you can possibly meet.
Thats exactly what I was thinking in replying to your original message and it did sort of seem at first as if you were putting down the good as opposed to a compliment to the elite, now I understand more where you were coming from. Thanks broseph
You are out there actually doing it instead making comments like some here.... I started some competition rifle shooting myself with a .22LR. Crossfit is interesting to me as an additional.sport. I work as a delivery driver moving heavy freight and this has direct application to my line of work. I push and pull heavy pallets every day. I am not in as good a shape as some food delivery truck drivers and certainly not as skinny as a UPS guy but I could sure use the improved fitness.
I love working out and I especially love crossfit style workouts but damn, watching somebody else workout is only as fun as watching somebody else workout.
i guess it's to have a difference between a 4th and a 5th place, like if 2 people or more are failing at the same weight, the one who did the highest amount of deadlifts will be ahead in the scoreboard over the other who did less reps of deadlifts (sorry for the possible mistakes i made, english isn't my first language)
It's kind of like wrapping, except you don't need to tie anything and it doesn't use velcro. Some of them also have menthol in them which makes it feel nice and cool. Idk how much they actually help but hey, do what you gotta do.
Damn Neal Maddox is a beast.. That 365 clean was insane, and to people hating on the form what do you expect on a one rep max especially after doing a ladder like that. Very strong athletes and all those lifts take extreme focus and energy
can anyone tell me if this is a weightclass based event. sorry, i only powerlift/bodybuild, but i could run circles around these weights. and love winning.
your are partly right. But a lot of injures happen because people are rushing the exercise, and some don't focus on getting the technic right, but only on getting the reps..
Not when compared to people who focus exclusively on olympic lifting but in the context of all the other events they had completed throughout the competition and having limited rest they were not bad.
You've never heard of the Decathlon?, been around for over 100 years measures every athletic aspect; strength, speed, stamina, flexibility, & awareness. Oh yeah did I mention it was an Olympic sport, consisting of 10 grueling event.. ONLY the best in the world get to compete.. The only thing the cross fit games measures is who can rep out faster!!!
all I get is that cross fit is a more interesting way to watch a competition because theres more people lifting at once and you can see the increments each time
Oh right, I wasn’t aware they'd done events prior to it. Fair point, though, I mean cleans at the best of times aren’t exactly the easiest thing to do, let alone when fatigued. I am merely commenting on the techniques that are difficult to watch. I.e. legs split into what looks like a lateral lunge stance (Knee's go Bye Bye) Apart from that I see your point.
If a lifter fails the clean and squat he can still get points for the deadlifts. Many lifters failed at the same stage but the number of deadlifts will determine how high they place. 345 was the big hurdle to clear. One guy went straight to deadlifts at 345 and did not attempt the clean. He did 12 deadlifts and I think finished 4th or 5th.
If no one has answered this for you yet, I believe it helps them to figure out the final placement, say 5 people failed at 345... the number of reps you get in the deadlift figures the placing of those 5 guys, say thats the top 5 competitors, one deadlifted 10 reps, one for 8 reps, one 7 reps, one for 5 reps, one for 4 reps, and then 3 reps, theres your first through fifth..... if im wrong someone say so, cause i may be
CrossFit is a fantastic strength and conditioning program when it is applied correctly. Unfortunately this is not always the case. I've been to some gyms where the technique was appalling. But I've also been to gyms with great knowledgeable people who truly do right by their athletes.
In crossfit, there is no interpetation of complex events and situations that are facilitated by the the atheletes towards each other. There is a preset situation that is presented for the atheletes to conquer, but the amount of variables bred by competition is extreamely limited. Also one competes with another athelete as much as a clock, diluting head to head competitive spirit.
I know an Olympic lifter from Boston (5' 9", 165 lbs.), that can throw over 400 pounds over his head with relative ease, but that is his specialty. These guys are very good all around athletes.
I know this comment is old. But you are a LIAR. That’s more than 2.4 times body weight. Anyone that’s doing 2x body weight (let alone 2.4) is competing in the biggest stages of Olympic Lifting not hanging out in Boston 😂 😂 Not sure where you get your goofy info from.
barbell lifter physio tape, it helps stabilize muscles that may have been injured. It has a multitude of Physical Therapy benefits if used appropriately. It can also, enhance performance.
Haha thats awesome man and no man it doesn't sound like boasting at all I probably would boast big time at something like that. Big props to you for having represented the USA
the knee ligaments as well as the musculature structure around it are capable of withstanding up to 10,000 - 15,000 NT of preassure. the pest powerlifters who squat to 130 degrees with 2.5x their body weight are only capable of putting up to 8,200 NT of preassure and that is ass to grass with a much greater load almost twice as much, so i have no idea how they are going blow out their knee. with the exception maybe of the guy who lost his balance and his knee hit the ground but he was okay
RebelForce8 I KNOW RIGHT! how dare they progressively clean a minimum of 245 pounds, and up the weight in virtually less than a minute.... why cant they just... you know, do nothing and watch the 2012 olympics or something.
Agreed, people that lack knowledge like michael shouldnt type anything. Like 90% of the people hating on Crossfit simply base their statements on watching a bunch of "Fail compiliation" clips with people lifting way to heavy and lacks the correct form for the lift.
I would like to see him do all the rest of the events here. Yes he would place 1st in this MAYBE, I have seen strongmen only powerclean about 300 or less, but andyways he would come in dead last in all the other ones, due to lack of bodyweight function, and cardio.
No way, Crossfit isn't only thing that requires strenght and stamina. Crossfit mostly measures your athletic ability. But in sports like MMA and rugby you need skill (technique) and athletic ability, so for me they are way more well-rounded than crossfitters, but I still give a lot of respect to them despite of that :)
Sport (noun) An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others. So... yes. Yes it is a sport.
I know plenty about crossfit, and have coached many crossfitters in decent olympic lifting form. I know these athletes are remarkable, however because I also know crossfitters must compromise to be good at everything instead of truly elite in one area, they don't impress me as much as they could.
medvidekmisa if they go straight to deadlift they do not count the first DL. The first DL is counted as an attempt. The amount of DL's that count are the ones completed in the alloted time. If you listen the MC counts down 3-2-1 rotate. Rotate to time is the alloted time to complete Clean or DL's.
venge232 the deadlift is if you fail or know you won't complete the next weight. Ie: you and I both fail at the 315 bar, but you get 5 dl in and I only get 1, your tiebreaker beats mine
I never said you did. I merely pointed out what they don't do to show how useless they are, but I did ask you a question about their overall effectiveness as it relates to life outside the gym.
I'm not talking about the program as in the prescribed workouts that HQ posts on their website. I meant the universal understanding that having an elitest attitude is frowned upon in crossfit. It's true that some crossfitters unfortunately have elitest attitudes, but those are the ones who care only for themselves and think that what they do is truly better than what someone else does. There's no bad way to work out, and some crossfitters think their way is the only way. That's what I meant.
As far as I understand it, if some one ties on your weight the winner is determined by the number of dead lifts. Not sure what happens if they both tie on dead lifts :)
Like it or not, this looks like one of the sports of the future.
I, for one, admire these athletes.
I just can't believe how strong these guys are! What I like about Crossfit is the emphasis on strength and not just all cardiovascular.
Heavy olympic lifts done with good form are one of the most impressive things to watch.
This video was very unimpressive.. lol
Absolutely amazing! Great job, Athletes!
I was going to start crossfit but it clashed with my zumba class
This is one of those trends that allow a large number of people to participate in and give them some identity. Awesome job on the clean ladder and making it to the Games!
To anybody talking trash about Crossfit...seriously? These guys run 5 minute miles, clean 300+lbs, do nearly 100 unbroken pull-ups...be jealous, not stupid. Such a great sport.
Nearly 100 unbroken pullups= flop on a bar like a fish out of water, flailing around like a clown***
@@SP-qo1so 10 years later.
From this 2012 clean no jerk ladder to the 2013 clean and jerk ladder you can see sooo much progress.
Crossfit looks so cool motivates me to actually start lifting seriously
These guys are all beasts! Well done!
i don't know a lot of crossfit but i found this pretty fun to watch.
23:25 Dan Bailey is cleaning 345, and the camera is pointing at Panchick just standing there? WTF?
eN SERIO, Bro, no me di de cuenta, preciso!!
Matt Williams he power cleaned it which is even more impressive
all these guys are beasts imo, and I thought I was really working out
This video did not teach me how to clean ladders.
Need detol

These exercises will make you quite the athlete in sports
David Woo Explosive power, proper form and quick reflexes. I say that's a good athlete in any sport.
Great to see O-lifting getting some national coverage!

ya, it kinda dawned on me once multiple people started hitting the same weights lol
thanks for the reply
I love working out and I especially love crossfit style workouts but damn, watching somebody else workout is only as fun as watching somebody else workout.
How long has CrossFit been around? This seems way better than being in a gym full of machines!!! This actually keeps my attention.
it's their way of adding points to their final score. i.e. two guys both clean 335, whomever does more deadlifts take a higher place.
These guys are really good at exercising!
huge props to these guys ive been working out everyday for 14 months and i can barely clean 140 these guys put me to shame.
Did anyone notice that Holmberg didn't even bother with the clean at the end and went straight for the deadlifts? Smart!
"Ten seconds" *Half a second later* "3, 2, 1, TIME!"
i guess it's to have a difference between a 4th and a 5th place, like if 2 people or more are failing at the same weight, the one who did the highest amount of deadlifts will be ahead in the scoreboard over the other who did less reps of deadlifts (sorry for the possible mistakes i made, english isn't my first language)
One of the only times Rich Froning ever finished a workout last.
bingahgread i know he was last on that swimming and muscle up event
The most efficient method of moving an object from A to B
@SenorDennis it's a way to get more reps/points. If two people fail at the same weight the tie breaker is the amount of DL reps they can get.
Way to bounce those deadlifts, Holmberg.
It's kind of like wrapping, except you don't need to tie anything and it doesn't use velcro. Some of them also have menthol in them which makes it feel nice and cool. Idk how much they actually help but hey, do what you gotta do.

this is crossfit we are watching remember?
Keep in mind that everytime they do another clean, that have already done at least 5 others so getting to 315 is impressive AF
are these plates normal olympic kg plates? as in blue=20kg, yellow=15kg, etc.
can anyone tell me if this is a weightclass based event. sorry, i only powerlift/bodybuild, but i could run circles around these weights. and love winning.
Damn dude your chest was really high on that. I would of thought you'd hit it. Is that around your PR?
id love to see them do one round !
Man, their knees looks like they are going to bust out! I'd never get that damn low on a cling
hey what are thos sticker strips on those guys muscles?
your are partly right. But a lot of injures happen because people are rushing the exercise, and some don't focus on getting the technic right, but only on getting the reps..
Any guesses what are some of them drinking between the lifts? I guess it's some type of Replenish but I wonder what's inside
I love how Dan Bailey just power cleans 158kgs :D
this just the clean portion. there's more then just this
Not when compared to people who focus exclusively on olympic lifting but in the context of all the other events they had completed throughout the competition and having limited rest they were not bad.
i've question why did they do deadlift when they fail on clean?

Back when only 4 of the dudes were geared out. Now, every single dude is on TREN!
I watched it once, everyday is overkill.
Yes, for every deadlift after the first clean attempt or first deadlift is .01 points to their overall score on the WoD
Oh right, I wasn’t aware they'd done events prior to it. Fair point, though, I mean cleans at the best of times aren’t exactly the easiest thing to do, let alone when fatigued. can someone explain how this works? why are they dead lifting after they fail? and why the different number each person?
These guys are crazy that starting weight is my max!
What was Lucas Parker record?
If a lifter fails the clean and squat he can still get points for the deadlifts. how often should i clean heavy per week? i'm new in this crossfit world... i clean 242 lbs max !
two times a week
How many PR's i wonder were made that day
Woah, what country did you play for?
Man Aja Barto is a beast.
Can someone explain to me why they deadlift the weight after they fail? do they get extra points or something?

there is definitely a cardio element to strongman too
the bad form common with crossfit is what causes so many injuries for the people who watch these guys and then try to replicate it themselves.
sorry probably a stupid question but im new to crossfit. what with the tap that they put on there arm ect? why do it?
barbell lifter physio tape, it helps stabilize muscles that may have been injured. It has a multitude of Physical Therapy benefits if used appropriately. It can also, enhance performance.
What are those things on Neal Maddox's arm?
Do they get points or something for deadlifting it after a failed attempt?
You go girl!
Haha thats awesome man and no man it doesn't sound like boasting at all I probably would boast big time at something like that. Big props to you for having represented the USA

You know what. I used to think xfit was crap based on what other people said but this is cool.
when the bar start bending thats when you know this is some serious shyt
well in all powersports there is time limit both weightlifting and powerlifting
RebelForce8 I KNOW RIGHT! how dare they progressively clean a minimum of 245 pounds, and up the weight in virtually less than a minute.... why cant they just... you know, do nothing and watch the 2012 olympics or something.
Excelente muy bueno
I'm 14 and I love it

Does anyone know the formula they use on one of the crossfit games
you found one did you..?
where is it?
pretty cool, didnt know bout this
which one's kalipa?
Therefor kipping pull ups offer a better metcon workout. Both STRICT and Kipping both have there place in crossfit,
