      One of the best videos yet. Our favorite six people on TH-cam. Both you and LEAW are our "look forward to" every week. And yes, we've virtually adopted Noah and Lucia as our grandchildren.
      Hope you're considering Sicily. It's one of our favorite destinations. Love you all.

    My first video by this lovely couple. I am retired/disabled (usa) and am fortunate enough to have racked up a few dollars in my SSI after only 25yrs of being able to work. It is not enough to travel as I would like to. Travel is also a challenge for us mobility challenged. Being able to watch quality, personal videos of people around the world in a variety of situations has become my alternative to actual travel. Continued blessings of abundance and wisdom for All

      God bless this man who had the strokes. I was also fit ,and worked full time as a Midwife. Driving home from a night shift, I had the first of 4 strokes. I managed to stop the car on a , luckily, nearly empty road. I lost speech and movement in my right side. Whilst I recognised my husband and 2 young sons, I couldn't remember my sons' names, which was terrifying for them. I slowly recovered, and eventually returned to work. We re-evaluated our lives and decided we had to live our dreams. We emigrated from the UK to Australia, then moved to New Zealand. We enjoyed both Countries but I missed Europe. The close proximity of different Countries and cultures. I had my 3 rd stroke, and we decided to fulfil the dream I'd held, since Childhood. We packed again, and moved to Europe . We're all healthy, ( despite a small stroke. Turns out a major artery hadn't ever formed in my brain) We're happy in a way we've never been.,
      The only true treasure in life, worth having, is our health !!

    It was great to see you guys again. I have been watching Luca and Sara for a bit now. Their story tugs at my heart. I don't think they realize just how strong and resilient they are. Such wonderful people.......not to mention Lucia, lol. So happy you met up with them. Loved Sweden, but Italy fascinates me. Do your research, schools, medical, air quality, seasons, etc. I have heard Italy isn't high on the list of places some people would chose. Keep in mind you aren't "some people". You do you! Daunting isn't it?..... but exciting. Just don't bite off more than you can chew..... I know, old cliché, but I am old, so I can say that. I hope you find what makes your hearts sing. Sooner rather than later. My personal preference is anything coastal. I truly believe in the health and healing properties of the sea. So I guess that would be one vote for Sicily. Hugs for Noah ❤❤❤

      @@TravelBeans I want to jump in to address something said that you are responding too about how Italy isn't high on the list compared to other countries for things like education and medical. I can tell you from personal experience as an American living in Italy the last 7 years and having lived here in the past, Italy is exceptional when it comes to education and healthcare. I can compare it to the US, though not to England, when I tell you that the schools here are top notch. You will never have to worry about your child getting a good education here. Also, for medical, it does highly depend on where you are, but Italy's system is among the best in Europe and beyond. The doctors are professional, the care fantastic, and the facilities are modern and efficient. However, having previously lived in Sicily and now live in Friuli, the healthcare is not nearly as good in Sicily as it is in the north of Italy so keep that in mind.

If my husband and I were not yet elderly and were not chronically ill like we are, I would definitely join them there in a heartbeat.....at least for a vacation home. The warmth of the locals, the breathtaking architecture, the views, and the plots of land with olive trees, fruit trees, and farm land would be a huge draw for me to create such of a dream come true life there. Why don't you become their neighbors? With love and prayers from Donna in Florida, USA.

    Thank you so much for this video. My wife and I have been talking about purchasing a home in Europe for a few years now. First, to answer your questions from the end of your video: At 59 years old, a 1 Euro house is probably out of the question for us. Too much work, too much time. As far as locations, we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Italy. We're traveling to Sicily next spring, and we've been to Amalfi, Rome, and Naples. Depending upon how Sicily feels for us, we're probably considering Molise or Sicily.
    The content of your video actually brought me to tears. Having had a mini-stroke years ago, I have some understanding of the health implications. As a CPR Instructor, I can't beg people enough to get trained. You take it with you for the rest of your life. And now, after this video, I'm insisting my wife get the training. We have also been on a health kick as of late and look forward to a better lifestyle.
    And as far as being on a diet, on our 10-day trip to Italy a few years back, we ate whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, and my wife lost weight. I'm sure the amount of walking we did helped the cause, but just eating healthy food without all the additives and garbage we find in our American foods surely was the prime reason.
    I'm going to show this video to my wife tonight. This will light a fire under me. I wish to live with my beautiful wife for as long as possible and I truly believe that living in a country and location that is healthier and less stressful will add years to our lives together. Thank you and your friends for being an inspiration. Maybe we will all meet some day in Italy and share some arancini in an olive grove with a view of the sea. Ciao!

    There's no such thing as a 1 euro house. You are given the property in the villages that run the "1 euro" scheme and the houses that are in the scheme are usually uninhabitable. You sign a contract that you will invest € 25,000 to € 30,000 in refurbishment or renovation within 3 years of signing. Many have minimum length of residency schemes ie you agree to live in the property for 2 or 3 years or so. Maybe longer in some cases. It's a serious commitment. Some houses need full electrical rewiring or wiring for the first time. Ditto plumbing. And roofs cost a FORTUNE to renovate / replace unless you're a roofing expert.
    I'd say the 1 euro houses are strictly for builders, electricians, plumbers, roofers, or very talented amateurs. It's a serious business. It's not just about "being on holiday" and La Dolce Vita.
    (And Italian bureaucracy, taxes, utilities etc are a nightmare.)

    • @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw
      @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      The € 20 to € 30 thousand investment is a MINIMUM, for small houses. Larger houses require much work which can run into hundreds of thousands or even millions in the case of some of these Italian palazzos on the market for € 70 or €90 thousand. Don't even think about it unless you have serious wealth.

    • @tonys1636
      @tonys1636 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      No worse than renovating a semi derelict property in an AONB/conservation area in England, at least the hoops and miles of red tape are in English not Italian. The cost for materials and labour are far higher in England, finding period correct materials, fixtures and fittings is far harder.

    • @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw
      @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @tonys1636
      Of course a full renovation is expensive and tough in any country. I owned a house in a conservation area in Lincolnshire. I know, believe me. Nevertheless, in many of these Italian places really major work is required. I saw a video on a beautiful 18th century palazzo for sale for a really low price. Under 100,000 £, I think. The house or mansion had beautiful frescos which are art treasures in their own right. Not a job for any old Bob the Builder. The thing is that the property was 18th century. Nothing had been added or done since. No bathrooms or plumbing. Not sure about electricity. A proper refurbishment would probably cost millions. If you are an expert at that kind of thing, fair enough. Very few people are. That's all I'm saying. As for England being "more expensive", don't bank on it. I'm not familiar with Italy. But here in Normandy where I'm based, a local French guy quoted € 3000 for a replacement window ! A local English bloke did a beautiful job for just over € 400. And he's not particularly cheap either.

      Looks amazing area For holiday / to live. But 1 Euro never there’s always a catch and a BUT ?
      Though for some renovations are fun ,hobby you have to have the Financial Freedom, dedication
      To work hard on getting it finished with hopefully Not any extra costs 🤔. ( unless you have to get hulp to build )
      Also depending on where you buy which country rules,laws regulations medical,schools visa requirements.
      Think you both have to write down all the pros& cons of each country costs of living 🤷‍♀️.

    I haven't noticed that anyone has already mentioned an import aspect of buying one of these properties, and that is the reality of trying to construct anything in a Mediterranean country. 😂 the materials come from far away, and have to be brought with trucks , the work ethic may be different from your expectations, as well as the methods used, lots of holidays when no one will work, linguistic difficulties and having to rely on others to negociate things while not being able to understand. Some one will most likely rip you off at some point, you'll spend much more money and everything will take ten times as long as you think it will. Not everyone can handle it. You've got to love being there.

      The mayor and administration of these abandoned villages will help you! They have a list of approved contractors so no rip-offs guaranteed! My 3-storey house has a gorgeous sleek Carrera (Italian quarry city) marble staircase that you would NEVER find in the US. You don't know what you're talking about. And furthermore, why would you want to live there if you can't make the effort to learn the language? This is a life adventure for bold people who are open to new experiences. Obviously, you should just stay in the cosy little air-conditioned prison you've built for yourself.

    • @katella
      @katella 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@firehorse9996 you are making a lot of naive assumptions and have been taken in by the usual suspects. Express your trust and devotion of the local mayor and administrators to any of your Italian neighbors. Please do that. The laughter will be riotous. Of course the mayor will hook you up with contacts. They are his cousin or brother-in-law or someone who is greasing his palms. This is how things work. Your marble staircase is typical and nothing special, even though it is beautiful. There are so many beautiful things in Italy that are quite commonplace. But you can be sure that you paid more for it than a local would, and rightly so. It is one way to get over on the foreign newcomer who believes himself to be so wonderfully special, and presumes to speak their language. 😂 sorry, but I have to laugh. I moved to the Mediterranean 30 years ago and have seen people like you come and go. Of course I learned the language, and another from the country I lived in ten years before that, as well as enough to have casual conversation and to conduct business in two others as well. So save your lectures about breaking out of the small minded, air-conditioned American way of life for someone less experienced in the world than I. But you will learn.

    • @lisaguineau149
      @lisaguineau149 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Learning the language is critical. Communication is the key to becoming part of a culture in which people assist each other with local goods and services. Life anyplace is much easier when one is willing to learn to blend in and become social. This is a great strength of Sicilians.

      @@katella any renovation project -- and I mean ANY -- even in your own country and conducted in your own language -- is a nightmare with renovators disappearing from the site, doing wrong things, ruining your property and leaving the work half-done. Definitely a house in either Portugal or Italy. I've travelled to Italy and loved, loved, loved it, if I was younger that is definitely a country I could call home. I live in Australia. There are many people on youtube who have purchased abandoned properties in Portugal and are making new lives for themselves renovating these properties, the weather seems wonderful and foreigners seem to be welcomed with open arms at both Italy and Portugal. I wish you both all the best in your hunt for your new forever home, I love watching your travels and adventures each week, thank you for sharing xxx

    The Italian national government has never launched such initiatives. Nor have the regional governments of the 20 regions initiated them. There are only initiatives by individual municipalities in remote and almost uninhabited places. Moreover, one-euro houses are little more than ruins and serve to sell better houses at a low price anyway.

    I enjoyed viewing this episode as I “met” your family via LEAW on Sunday. My comment to your question, definitely Sicily as a place to invest or plant roots. I moved by myself to Sicily in 2021 from California. Admittedly I am of Sicilian heritage but having lived or traveled in other countries, if Sicily grabs you by the heart your search will be over! 😊 The land, the seas, the mountains, Mamma Etna’s energies are so healing. The Sicilian people are kind, helpful and generous with their knowledge. The welcoming received is nothing I have ever experienced elsewhere.
    Wishing you all the best as you explore what is best for your family. Auguri 🎉

    I've followed Leave Everything & Wander on & off for about five years. Luca's stroke was traumatic for viewers as well as Sara. He was bloody lucky really, had he been alone he would have died. It's great to see him recovered. The olive grove is a wonderful hobby but I can't see anybody making a decent living from it. These places are deserted for a reason. Pretty soon the only active homesteaders will be TH-camrs.

Beside, Some towns give you money on top of the free house to renovate it... Sure, it's not a dream come true but it's not an absolute nightmare either as implied in the video. I heard from a farmer ho farms in Sicily that water on farms is quite unreliable and they had to scale down their plans of organic produce because of the water situation. They were buying bottled water. Water is diverted to supply city folk. The reservoir was extremely low this year so Sicily really needs a desalination plant badly as the weather extremes happens. “A reservoir is an artificial lake where water is stored”

    LEAW is such a beautiful family, nice to see you guys connect. As for your home, perhaps it would be easier if you chose in reverse...instead of your forever home, start with your cabin in the woods or your vacation home by the sea. Kind lof like how your van is your cottage on wheels. It will give you a home base to create new positive routines and of course plan your next adventures. Because before long you will be focused on very different needs and that will really influence what you want in a forever home.

    We were excited to hear (as Americans) that the US and Italy have reciprocity between the countries. We can buy homes in Italy, Italians can buy homes in America. We were thisclose to buying a vacation home in Italy because homes there can be so darn cheap. BUT, that idea was put on hold after we found out while we can buy a home there, we're limited to 6 months a year of visitstion that can't be consecutive months. So three months in Italy, three months back on the US, three months in Italy, etc. It was disappointing to learn this but c'est la vie.
