My low was not getting a literary agent on my first manuscript, but my high is getting an agent on my second! I totally agree with what you said about comparison being the thief of joy - I struggle with comparing my writing achievements to other people, but the industry is so subjective. Just writing a novel is in of itself an achievement.
Failure can sometimes be so encouraging because you fail, you get upset about it, and then you're like, "Oh, right I can just get back up again and try something else!" You realize how resilient you are and how many different ways there are to achieve something.
Highs: this month has been my most productive year with writing, I get the chance to reset, read over 50 books, I started my youtube channel, and went to my first book event Lows: lost my job, my grandma past earlier in the year Even with the lows, I will say this year has been pretty good despite the very toxic work environment, but when it comes to writing I have had a lot of inspiration and different ideas and I can’t wait to implement them and try different things next year
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma and job, but so happy that you felt that year went well over all and that you were so inspired and productive with your writing!
Thank you for sharing your reflections and experience chocked full of ebbs and flows...such is life, right?! This year I decided to embrace becoming an author...full time and leave the habits and mindset of being a hobby writer behind. I always look forward to your insightful and encouraging videos. Thank you.
You are so inspiring for trying something new, facing setbacks, feeling defeated, but then bouncing back and not giving up. The confidence in yourself and joy you have for the work will make your dreams possible. ❤
Thank you! I'm hopeful to try and see how things go. It's never fun to feel like you've failed, but I figure if I keep going after what I want, at least there's a possibility
God bless you, Liselle! Your wrap up is so honest and inspiring! We will all put more bookish success on our new year's resolutions for 2025. Thank you so much for sharing about your journey and giving this year a sense of closure!!
This was so incredibly inspiring! You're so right, social media is such a highlight reel and even though we totally know that it's still difficult to digest and accept when looking at our own lives so thank you for being vulnerable and sharing both your highs and lows! You also mentioned self doubt after a layoff and that hit home as I was laid off of my job in tech due to company downsizing a year ago. I've been working on my books, but it's challenging to focus my author brain when the income search is still going on. This video really helped provide me some comfort so thank you and congrats on an amazing year! 💜
Urg I’m sorry about your layoff, it’s such a hard place to be in. And I so get that it’s hard to focus on books when you still have to focus on needing a day job and that income and support. I wish you the best with it and am so happy the video could bring you some comfort 💛
Thank you!! And yeah, I try and be like as transparent as realistic as I can. I want people to feel like they're getting a well rounded view of this author life thing
This was such an amazing opportunity for you to reflect on who you were versus who you are becoming. We forget to take moments to celebrate ourselves, our good, and our bad. I always remember that no matter what, I am always becoming and you are too. Congratulations on a great year! 🎉🎉🎉
The perfect way to put it! And thank you. I really like doing these videos because it does help me concentrate on those positives and not just huge negative stuff that tends to stick
I went to get Tender Beasts as a present for myself. I didn't realize it wasn't in paperback yet. I forgot trad pub staggers the pb release. Your year has been incredible. Thanks for always being open and inspiring.
Thank you for sharing love that you included your lows with your highs- also No UK rights.- I've been waiting for this book who do I need to complain to let me start a riot 😂
Loool I do not know where to send those complaints. I’ve tried to get the UK pub industry to love me for half a decade now 🤣 but I appreciate the people in the UK are hyped
"There's nothing like a failure to make you feel like you can do anything." GIRL. YES.
☺️☺️

Omg that low and high! Congratulations!! And yeah that comparison game never works out 😅 but yes just writing a book is such an achievement!!

It sucks so much, I'm sorry you're going through it too
