Brian, I finally got around to buying a tin of this. My usual Burley smoke, Sutliff's Ready Rubbed Match, was out of stock at Smokingpipes, so I pulled the trigger. The Cobblestone aromatics are made by Sutliff, but the Outdoors Hiking and several others are produced in Germany by Kolhasse and Kopp, as are the Solani Aged Burley Flake and Wessex Slices. The Hiking is more like the Wessex than the Solani, which is a problem, because I don't like the Wessex. I can detect very little, if any, White Burley in Hiking, which is the Burley I like. Hiking is all Dark Burley, which I don't enjoy. Oh, well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
You've got my curiosity piqued! The absolute best Burley I ever had was the original Edgeworth Slices, when it was produced by Larus& Brother in Richmond, VA. We're talking 1972, and I discovered Edgeworth at the same time as Balkan Sobranie. Both long gone. Solani Aged Burley Flake is very good, as is MacBaren HH Burley Flake, but neither touches the Edgeworth. Wessex isn't even close.
Smart move to go back to the favorites. I find if I’m exploring for too long and don’t find new blends I like, I start to feel like pipe smoking is a chore. Never tried this tobacco but it sounds interesting. I’m not a burley fan but will go there from time to time. I’ll be interested to see how the others feel about this blend in the coming months. Curiosity got to me after one of the recent videos where you mentioned it again and so I gave it a buck. Now I HAVE to make an unexpected order again! This stuff is one of my absolute favorite blends right now and it is still a total sleeper. Not even a review page on TR. Made in Germany by K&K, I'm 99% sure this is Wessex Burley Slice without the anise topping. It's incredible.
Yep I been trying to tell people about this blend for months it’s a really amazing blend and I was never a huge burley guy , do you think it’s all burley or Va mixed with it ?
@@beans316 Well based on the TR page for Wessex Burley Slice I would assume it's all Burley, but the sweetness would suggest at least a little VA added IMO.
I got Six Pence in the cellar thats a couple years old sitting there waiting. That H&H is good stuff. Dark fired I go through a lot of a year and that never changes. My mainstays are Captain Black, H&H, G&H, and Sammy G. Autumn Evening and Rattrays I hit a lot too. To me G&H blows Esoterica away. Not even close. Take care Brian.

I've always said that the H.H. old dark fired , and the Bold Kentucky are awsome and probably my favorite especially with coffee or bourbon. Alot of guys rag on Mac Baren but for me thier blends are superior, oh well more for me 🤣 And I totally agree with all the new blends coming out, unless it's Mac Baren of course. 😆 I'm concentrating on Stockpiling my favorites.
I wasn’t expecting you to like this one lol! In my opinion, it’s somewhere between Lane RR...and Aged Burly Flake! I agree, it’s gonna be a good one to age! I kinda thought it smelled like stewed tomatoes when I first opened the tin, kinda reminded me of SWR original...just from the smell! After the tin was open for a few days, the smell turned to coco and molasses...maybe a lil bit of booze as well! It’s good stuff, I’ll definitely buy it again! Take care my friend!

Had to finally make a comment on this one: I've been trying out my first burley blend with Mac Baren's HH Burley Flake this week and really enjoying it. Can't wait to compare this one that apparently doesn't have any of the condimental tobaccos like the HH. Appreciate the review!

I was at that stage a few years ago with trying new blends. More of a waste of money when 80% of the blends you buy suck. I been smoking long enough to know what I like and know what to cellar.
Hey Dion yep I know what you mean trying a ton of new blends this year I’ve only found a handful of gems to me . If you never tried the Former blends they are some of my top Vapers and for a Burley this one is the best I ever smoked in my opinion
@@beans316 I tried the Formers blends about 6 years ago and liked them and bought what I could. Once I knew I liked Dan Tobaccos flakes, I researched what other flakes that comes from them. Formers is one of them and its off the radar.

A lot of smokers bitch about the Mac baren bite but the HH line is superior quality I have many lbs now cellared away in the whole line
