The arrow following the mouse click was a REALLY cool game idea. So simple yet so unique. Seems like a cool game to actually play, I might check it out.
Just some words of encouragement: I was so happy when I found your channel, definitely a hidden gem when it comes to game dev on TH-cam (hopefully not for long though, as more and more people find you!). You have great insights and ideas so I feel like I've learned a lot from you already. This series as well is great, love the idea, it gives me so much inspiration to see the same art and how wildly different people diverge and the ideas they have. Basically just good luck, looking forward to your future videos and games. You have incredible talent, and it's apparent that you've put in a lot of hard work as well.
@@DeadDamsel oh no! the hardness is something I default to because I enjoy it myself and it is also just easier to make something thats hard :( with gutwhale, additionally, is is the genre or type of game that made it hard. It is kind of a comment on downwell and super crate box and those games are HARD :) hope you still had a nice time tho ^^
16:45 I'd like a start a movement to get all youtubers and streamers to change their discord message sound so I'm not teased into thinking I have friends. Amazing video and love the concept, this series is one of my main sources of inspirations when trying to come up with a random game mechanic to canoodle with.
I'm not even a game designer but these gam jams of yours are some of the most interesting videos I've seen recently. Really cool to see and hear about the creative decisions that go into these games. Also, you do a great job of editing everything together. Awesome work!
Keep uploading this type of video & idea, please! These are really oddly entertaining! I binged watched all of these "Four Game developers jam with same art kit".. I think you are onto something with this formula even for average non-developer viewers. its crazy how different each game can totally be, love it.
Blood machine heard "Slam Knight" and took it to heart, slamming the movement keys as hard as he could. Review of the jam games (Ranked) #1 Arrows: Great, simple concept with a phenomenal execution and barely used any of the assets. I think giving it a simple narrative instead of hard focusing on gameplay elements worked out extremely well for this game. Well done for a game jam game. #2 Thine Shooteth: Binding R to reset at any given time is a... questionable design decision. Good use of assets, simple but classic FPS gameplay, enough diversity to keep the game interesting throughout. #3 Dark Escape: Art style was pretty good, enemy design was super simplistic (walks at you menacingly), and gameplay was Minecraft-tier. #4 Slam Knight: Real-time enemies with a movement system that doesn't play very well with an extremely limited lighting system really took this game down several notches. A little bit more time and it might've turned out a lot better. Everytime I read one of your game titles, I always feel like I'm about to read some shit about how wearing beef steaks for shoes twice a month and wallowing in a riverbed daily will cure the plague back in the dark ages.
The first game started weird, I was looking at it and had no faith in it becomming something cool... but I ended up loving the focus on the story and the humor
This series is great! You're style of editing and variety of videos is a breath of fresh air in the TH-cam space. Sorry about to hear about the job, hope everything works out alright for you!
I love your videos and have been watching your logs, game jams for a few weeks, i just noticed I wasn't subbed but TH-cam kept pushing your videos to my feed, if anyone reading this hasn't subbed yet don't wait any longer this channel is amazing!
I think the mecanic of the first game is amazing and even though the game was really nice and funny and weird wich I love I feel there's so much wasted potential. With some smart level design and the simplest enemies possible it would have been incredible. I know they have limited time though so I can't argue with that. (sorry bad english me french you know how it goes)
@heints I agree, the first game had a ton of potential, it would be cool to them them continue working on some of these. Also your English is really good!
Love this series! Really interesting to see how different devs approach the same assets. For me it could be even better if there was maybe a companion video or something where you talk more about the development process.
Dude, not only are you making dope games, you make interesting, entertaining videos, which is a whole skill in itself. Glad I found your channel while I have a lot of time on my hands
This is such a great series! Seeing the completely different game each developer makes with the same art kit is really neat. Also, lots of respect for the 'sponsored by yourself' part. There are so many people on TH-cam right now who will stop in the middle of their video to sing the praises of some product, so your honesty in revealing how sponsors operate & that you'd make more money if people bought your own products is a breath of fresh air. I hope it pays off for you and that you'll get to keep making games and teaching people game development skills.
Honestly, as somebody who is studying game design. I have to say that these game jam videos are EXTREMLY useful. I love seeing different approaches from different developers.
My new favorite series! I work on larger indie dev teams so it's very interesting to see the solo projects. I never get outside of my lane (3D art) so it's neat to see what goes into these quick jams
Thank you for bringing back this series, it's really fun to watch and it's interesting to see the different ways different developers jam off the same art kit.
Glad to hear that you can live from doing what you love (? Your channel is everything other (game dev)^-1, and watching it is so satisfying that I think this could be a new trend. Please keep it coming! Cheers from Argentina.
I love the aesthetic that your games always have, it really appeals to that sense of nostalgia and you're super good at nailing game feel. Keep doing what you're doing man!
Great videos that are fun to watch. I really like how different the games turn out considering they all come from the same assets. This is a really good concept for videos, so keep them coming, please.
I have a few things I want to say. First, I love Stuffed Wombat, he's such a creative game dev with so many ideas, and all his stuff is polished pretty well. (Seriously, follow him on Twitter if you haven't, I even "stole" one of his prototype ideas and turned it into a main project. That's how awesome he is, plus he's just super nice!) Second, I love these videos and how each dev seems to approach the same art kit with VASTLY different ideas on how to turn them into games. Third, I'm gonna practice making game jam stuff off this kit just to start getting better at making games, because I'm pretty bad at it rn. And finally, forth, I'd love to jump into one of these jams at some point, hopefully within the next 2 to 3 months I will be able to. Cheers, great video, and good luck with self employment, I'll buy some stuff from you just because you're that awesome!! :3
Just found this channel and I'm really digging these game jams. I'll be honest, the game you made (not saying it here because I don't want to spoil it for anyone) has some legit legs, like I could see that on Steam. Awesome work from all of you.
bro, you should make a full game out of this FPS game. it looks awesome. FPS games are highly accessible so you'd have a large potential audience. And these guys playing your game is the best commercial you could make for your product. It looks delightful!
Miziziziz is my favorite part in all these vids. He makes the most interesting games and by far the most creative uses for the sprite sheets. I would assume that the devs would utilize shaders and particles a lot more because of the lack of sprite animations. Great games and great series.
The arrow mechanic was awesome!! Also some other things here, but the arrow game with more mechanics (and less cheese potential) is something I'd love to play
YES! PLEASE KEEP THIS GOING, THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SERIES!
ME TOO THIS SERIES IS THE BEST
This x100!
Same! 😋
Definitely loved this format!
This is by far your best series, It's great seeing what different devs do with the same tools
