I think I can see where you're going with the character arc. In Batman, he got his revenge, the city loved him, and he had Vicki. Then, in Batman Returns, he's alone in that room, no Vicki, nothing. Everything you said about his revenge and what it did is what he tells Dick Grayson in Batman Forever. And then when Dick doesn't get his revenge, Bruce sees him as a son and is not willing to lose him. It's... honestly a good arc and one good thing from Batman and Robin.

The problem was that Harvey was never a criminal before which is why he is so tragic just one day threw away a lifetime of good. You make a him a crimincal you take away what makes him inetersting.....much like BF did with Two Face
The problem with the movie is that it began the trend that considers "upping the stakes" in a sequel to mean adding more villains instead of making better villains. Christopher Walken is Christopher Walken and there's always entertainment value in that. I wasn't a fan of this portrayal of The Penguin. The whole abandoned child angle could have really made for some great characterization, but it was mainly just backstory. He already knew who he was and his big plan was already in place from the beginning. The whole mayor thing was a side quest to tie him toe Schrek and possibly a nod to the 60's series. Pfieffer did a good job as Catwoman, but I'm not fond of the mystical origin and acting like Selina and Catwoman are two different people. I think the Burton movies, in general, have lost their shine because Batman: The Animated Series came out shortly after this film, took the dark and retro feel for Gotham, pulled back on the Burton a bit, and did pretty much everything better.
But, you do have to give credit on the movie for one thing it got right. And that was the masquerade ball scene when Bruce Wayne showed up as himself and Selina Kyle also showed up as herself. To them, Batman and Catwoman are their true identities, and their human identities outside of their respective outfits and in public are their true disguises.
To add to your thoughts on Catwoman, part of the problem with treating them as two different people is that it robs Selina of the confidence and self-assurance that is the core of her character, shown much better in the 2022 film for instance, by instead altering her into a meek nervous woman afraid to speak her mind who is only empowered AS Catwoman, but the combination of that empowerment with a villainous identity makes it seem like the movie is treating that sort of thing as negative. It’s kind of similar to the issues some Batman stories run into of refusing tread Poison Ivy’s views feminism and environmentalism with the legitimacy they deserve and treating her as wrong in motive rather than wrong in execution, when she’s supposed to be someone with as strong a sense of Justice as Batman, but a different focus and less self-restriction.
I also saw Batman Returns in theaters when I was six, and it was shortly after I first watched the previous film on VHS a few times. I love my stuffed animals too, Lewis. I still beat myself up that a ton of them got lost to Nicotine and bugs. I love the holiday getup you put your teddy bear in by the way.
In the movie, the parents were less horrified and more annoyed. Like, you could totally imagine them saying, "Oh, my! If word of this gets out, we'll be the laughing stock of the entire Gotham aristocracy!" in posh accents.
I have a lot nostalgia for this comic. One of the first Batman comics I ever read, the art is great and there's a few added bits that I wish made it into the movie.
I'm pretty sure these movie adaptation comics are based on scripts and productions photos from the movies rather than the movies themselves, since the movies are likely still in post-production while the comics are being made. Using the limited material they've been given as a reference, the comic writers/illustrators make educated extrapolations on what the scenes look like and how they play out visually.
"Your analysts aren't talking growth, they're talking mild swelling." I had a friend who had an operation by an unlicensed doctor who promised growth, but in the end it was just mild swelling. Bicep enhancement implants need tighter regulation.

Actually a bigger problem is that they are based on early drafts in most cases (unless they come out years later) so they may not even be leaving out a pivotal scene so much as it was added afterwards and what seem like added weirdness is just stuff orginaly in the script that was cut

Let's hope that if Linkara wins the Contest of Champions, he doesn't wear the Infinity Gauntlet during the Christmas season and accidentally kill half the universe with the finger-snap-transition.
Yeah, I too thought that showing the jugglers with rings at the beginning was really strange. They switched to fiery sticks soon enough, but...seriously, did they really believe that the crowds would be terrorized by their ring-tossing skills?

Halloweeny/Dark elements around the holidays are a winning combination.
Glad to see you crossovering with E-Rod
I just love your Christmas theme song. :D
I was half expecting Nostalgia Critic to pop up out of nowhere.
I do wanna do one thing to that bear:
Give him the most adorable, tiny Christmas sweater!
Oh, and a Linkara outfit so he and. Louis could match
"Hiya, Max! Remember me? I'm Fred's hand!"
For some twisted reason I just love that segment where Max and the Penguin first meet.
It was difficult to pick what the stinger would be. Went with the one I did because it wasn't in the comic and because the Fred's Hand bit would be too long.
@@AT4W I completely understand! Merry Christmas, Linkara!
I owned this as a kid and I loved it! It got wrecked as as a child I didn’t take care of my comics. Damn shame as I had a LOT
I love that Walken impression.

Meanhile I guess Penguin was infected by the Thing off screen going bybthe bottom right panel.
I like your Christopher Walken impression. It sounds effortless and not as over the top as other Walken impressions I've heard.
1:35 Same here, I am so glad someone feels the same way me and my brother do about that scene
Well, it looks like Linkara's ready for Christmas in a snap! I wonder how the Nostalgia Critic is celebrating his Christmas with his over-the-top reaction.............that gives him power to kill millions and breath in space................
He actually did that I think two years ago
Thanks for reminding me of that guy, I was hoping to completely forget he exists.
Derek Night ...er, say *WHAT*?
Thanos snaps his fingers and makes half the universe disappear. Linkara snaps his fingers and instantly decorates his room in Christmas stuff.
@@ChristianNeihart, I wonder if the MCU Thanos still celebrates Christmas to this day.......on his farm while resting.
I used to have a special edition of this comic when I was a kid (I actually read the comic before watching the movie) and I'm 100% positive that it had an entirely different cover. In fact, that might have been the only reason this was a "special edition" in any way.
Linkara has a bear, Benzai has a Barry.
I love Batman returns it’s one of my favourite Batman movies
i sadly have yet to see it in full. need to correct that
spider-man It's a fun movie but it does have it's flaws.
I love it too.
@@SasukeUchiha-ix2yk You'll find it intriguing for its' dark fantasy theme. But for comic book accuracy....not so much. Stick with Batman: the Animated Series for a better expansion of the Batman mythos.
Not as good as Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman (1989), and Batman: Assault on Arkham. But, it was okay. But, at least Batman Returns is not as bad as the Joel Schumacher Batman movies.
If Die Hard and Batman Returns are christmas movies... That makes Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz a christmas movie.
I always thought it was weird that PENGUIN had CIRCUS themed minions.
