The production value of your adventures eclipses anything on Discovery Channel and others. You both crushed it and took to sea kayaking like pro's! Glad you made it safely!! Thanks ❤❤!!
Totally agreed!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed!
Exactly
Love that area and was fun to see more of it. Really like the geology info too. My dad is a rock hound so it’s nostalgic for me. My wife and I biked around Cape Breton and have good memories of the area. Thanks!!
As a Nova Scotian, it amazes me of the natural beauty of the east coast. A big thank you to Noah and Rachel for bringing it to us so we can be arm chair explorers and only dream of what you have done.
I am sorry to see this trip end. I can only imagine how you felt. So beautifully documented and narated. Thanks for sharing. Best “tv” vlog I have seen in a long time!!
Love the geology tidbits. Absolutely obsessed with thisssssssss
I love your brutal trips, but. This is your best film, editing and cast. Rachyl!!! What else is there to say!
Thanks Bern!
It was great to have you both swing by. What an inspirational video. I look forward to some
Paddleboard trips to the 100 Wild Islands!
Jeff! Thanks again for the hat 🙏
I have been watching this channel for years, and the episodes incredibly keep getting better! As a fellow Nova Scotian paddler, I say Thank you for bringing me along with you on your adventures. You make a great team, well done!
Noah, as a the "better" paddler you should be following the slower paddler. That so you have control over the situation and can help if needed and they decided the pace :)
Other than that, taking Rachel on a journey like this must be exciting for you both :)
On your last night, you stayed on the beach which is adjacent to our family property. The drone footage shows our land. Where you crossed the bay is where my grandfather used to row across over 100 years ago. You made an incredible video, congratulations.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing that
Another request… house party at Dave green’s on new years😀..,.bring back the scavenger crew
Wow, it's quite an epic trip. Felt for Rachel at times. At the back of the row and out of sight at times. Noah, keep checking on her, please.
Noah....amazing as always - love it. BTW....Rachel is a champ and a trooper!
She definitely is 💪
This is what advertising Nova Scotia should be!
Okay but this video is the reason that I am finally buying a kayak and starting my mission of kayaking around newfoundland. Thank-you 🤘🏻
I been watching your videos for some time now. It is great to see you highlight NS ........by sea , or by river. Hope to see the Tusket Islands sometime in the future. Can't wait till next year.
Yes, gotta make it to that part of the province
Recognized a lot of the places on your journey, I’m from the Canso area and live in the Guysborough Chedabucto Bay Area now. Beautiful coastline that I think we take for granted a bit, thanks for the reminder 🤗
The coastline from Canso to Guysborough was much more dramatic than I was envisioning. It was beautiful
Nova Scotia's "Into the Mystic Coastline" makes one imagine how many Sailors, Privateers and Rum Runners traveled the same routes shrouded in fog, so many inlets, coves and points to discover..... Your Video is a great representation of what's on every Nova Scotian's automobiles License plate " Canada's Ocean Playground "
The ocean is a different animal...nothing quite like the feeling of being out there and feeling that power...everyone should make sure they have lessons first before heading out there on the ocean. Glad you made a point to tell everyone you did that first! Great film!
this looks so incredibly dangerous. not worth the risk
Hey Noah ! Wow thanks so much for an incredible video ! cinnamontography, narration, music, editing was all amazing. This may be your best video yet, although I'm a bit bias being from Surfers ally (Lawrencetown/Porters Lake) Really cool to see your wife come with you on this trip, she was a trooper, that is no easy paddle. I'm still working on getting mine to come with me on trips, baby steps lol Anyway thanks again ! Cheers.
Much appreciated. I spend a lot of time surfing in your area. I don't think we'll kayak it again 😅
Wow Noah, thank you so much for making this film I don't know where to start. That plug for the Nature Trust just warmed my heart. I know what I'm doing next summer. Skipping surfers alley and starting at the 100 Wild Islands, going up to Gabarus and Bras D'or! It's not the swim that scares me, it's the 2 km off shore! I'm taking the dogs and the solo prospector and staying close to shore, portaging as needed, and using the lakes along the coast to shelter from the wind when I can. And focusing heavily on fishing. This is slowly turning from a dream into a plan!
It warmed our hearts too! :D
The route would make for a great adventure with a canoe. In 1980, Scott Cunningham circumnavigated Nova Scotia by canoe. His book, Sea kayaking in Nova Scotia, is a must have and was our guide on the trip
@@NorthernScavenger thank you I'll have to check out!
45:11 the right choice. Your channel was cool before, but she's amazing. Keep it up. I could watch you guys for hours.
A beautifully crafted video. Thank you. I thought you might just see a Great White ... a few were surely lurking! 🦈
😬
Amazingly beautiful trip, and so courages! Delightful inspiration as the snowstorm howles here in Norway and my kajakk is snug in it's litle house, waiting for a calmer day. 28.12.23
Greetings from Canada :)
Thank you !
Great video! An epic trip! Loved watching it!
Rachel and Noah, thank you so much for taking us along from Halifax to Cape Breton. It’s been nothing but amazing scenery from the drone up high, the bodies of water, and beaches. Such great humans helping out to keep you safe along the way. I’m not gonna lie, Rachel’s cap sizing was dramatic for me. I just about lost it. I noticed she was getting behind and then couldn’t see her at all. It was rough out there. Be proud you did it. 🥇 Good job 👏🏻
You two are awesome.
Nicely done! I've been sailing NS coast for 25 years on SV Odyssey. Have been along that Eastern Shore many times (sometimes so foggy didn't see the coast much). Your video shows much more, you got in close...I've anchored and taken the zodiac in through some of those very spots. You captured the essence of adventure so well. Very well done!
Maurice Mullaley :)
Thanks Maurice
“I just need more mustard, and I’m good to go”. Now that is a great partner to have!
💚💚💚
Nice to see my home beach ! And Mr Greene’s place. Amazing video Noah, and very stoked to see that mention of the Nature trust.
This was incredible, you have stepped it up big time with your production and it shows. You captured all the aspects of nature perfectly. I look forward to the next video!
Thank you ! 🙏
You two make a great team!
Perfect watching for Boxing Day. Thanks for all your content during the year. Merry Christmas from the UK
Boxing day?
I think you can just twist the nub on the end of the pole to tighten them. Such an amazing adventure!
These are my favorite types of videos to watch. Ive been twice to Nova Scotia and loved it. Thank you both for taking us along!!
Boat leashes have saved my life several times. I have a military veteran friend , big tough guide, who used to guide in my area, but he didn’t have one and has gone home. Hypothermia is fast and even in summer. It’s harder to get back in the boat the colder you get. Most people burn out after three attempts. I recommend making a stirrup out of webbing and hose, binder it to your paddle float and even injured you can get in. Solo kayaking is always a solo sport, no matter how many people you’re paddling with.
Amazing Video with top notch narrating and videography, showing our beautiful coastline of Nova Scotia. Congratulations Noah and Rachel on completing an epic journey along our eastern shore, and thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks so much!
Epic paddle, thanks to you both for bringing us along
Reading some comments below I can add my feelings to them since we are all in perfect agreement. Well done in the presentation, and well done in the journey itself!
I've sea kayaked in Canada and the US. Haven't kayaked in Nova Scotia, but I know the province from bicycling across it several times, and I've kayaked the Bay of Fundy coast of New Brunswick.
You raise the question, when does a paddler cross from a novice to a sea kayaker. Your journey answers it with the demonstration of skill and confidence that you both picked up along the way. In future journeys you may learn to use bracing techniques to increase stability, and many other things, but you seem to have a firm handle on all the basics, and the right attitude. That alone will take you far.
Learning to land well in hard surf would also be nice but I'm not one to judge. Even that doesn't always go as planned for those, like me ,with more experience.
Great vid you guys. Amazed you managed to get a wetsuit and snorkel gear on the boat!
Everyone is allowed one luxury item 😅
38:00 What an absolutely beautiful place and a gorgeous shot.
Thank you for going out there and having all these adventures and sharing them with us. Canada is such a beautiful country with awesome people.
We couldn't agree more
Thanks for taking us along. This is beautiful country.
Great video and great trip guys! Rachel, what a trooper!
What a great video! Rachel is a champ. You guys did great. I need to get down that way to explore the coast more.
In the last night of the video you stayed on a beach adjacent to our family property which can be seen from some of the drone footage. I’m so glad you enjoyed the area. Where you crossed the bay, my grandfather used to row across there and we marvel about that all the time as a family. Love the video congratulations.
What a great adventure. I've been waiting for this video ever since you first hinted about it. You do more, I'll definitely watch. I enjoy the geological comments immensely, but I wonder if you haven't missed your calling as a videographer/filmmaker?
Thanks Lae, I really appreciate that. I enjoy the filming/editing almost as much as the trip! It all started in high school when Alex and I would make snowboard "sponsor me" edits lol
Very well done and neat to see the coast line from the sea. Thanks Noah and Rachel !!
You were still able to capture beautiful scenery after long days on the ocean. Congratulations to the both of you. I really enjoyed watching it.
Great video! Really enjoyed seeing the beauty of this eastern shore, which doesn't get the attention it deserves! You two are awesome 👍
Thanks for helping us get into sea kayak shape and having all the gear we needed to make it happen!
Amazing trip and pretty much on your doorstep too. Love watching you both develop as sea paddlers together, a great team.
Very good adventure. It has everything: stormy weather, beautiful and peaceful sceneries, people you met and interesting geology. You made sea kayaking look easy. It can be challenging even in calm weather.
Great job, great film, guys - and glad Rachel's up for more!
Thank you for great video photoage, cutting (as usual), Noah and now Rachel. :-) I deamed this as more romantic than "Love actually" (old film reference) but I am of course an hopelessly romantic outdoor nerd. Hope Good luck to both of you!
Tip: Allways use a "leash" to secure that your paddle will not be lost in case of only "a half roll" in rougher sea states. Then you also can temporary leave the paddle beside the kayak when hands needed elsewhere whithout running risc to separate from the paddle in the waves as yourself commented at one starting point in the waves.
I recommend to check some other security equipment too. (Brittish kayakers videos, homepages are pretty good to check out.)
BR Jan Mickos
Thanks for the insight, Jan
Well done Rachel. Girl Power.. Great achievement.
Props for that audio track while snorkeling giving the Steve Zisou vibes....
Really enjoyed this one. You really captured the scenery and the friendliness of east coasters. Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely beautiful, what an accomplishment. Watching this video has brought me much joy! Thank you for capturing your journey and sharing it with us!
Thank you, Noah and Rachyl! Epic trip.
You both will be married within 24 months, watch and see….. great couple and amazing beauty and adventure….
Well done Thanks to both of you
once again a superb adventure. congratulations to you 2.
You are doing really well handling big water. I have had a Delta 16 for years and have done most of the Canadian Lake Superior shore. It really can handle the waves and swells. Lake Superior is like an ocean in size, and the weather rules. Sadly I am too old now for big trips but do enjoy watching the younger generation do these great trips.
What an awesome adventure! I really enjoyed watching. Rachel is so beautiful, lucky to have such an amazing partner to share this with you. Congrats,
Awesome trip! I always enjoy the geology info too! Great video as always!
Thanks for raising awareness about the trust. Great adventure and great team you have there!
Great trip. Great film making. Congrats!!!
There’s risk and there’s controlled risk… look after your queen!!!
Parrsboro boy
Interesting trip. Based on our sea kayaking on west coat you need 2 liters per day per person of water. Best water container we found is a 10 liter collapsible container you can tie on your kayak behind your seat.
I was so excited to see this episode! I lived in NS since Covid started and drove there from Vancouver Island. I spent 2 weeks in quarantine when I got there and spent the time watching Northern Scavenger! Loved your adventures and ended up in Canso. I was so excited to see you were there. Funny Buzz was the first person I met there too. Wonderful guy! Love your videos and adventures ❤
Wonderful trip..thank you both ..!...
Obviously not a man came up with the idea of putting that mesh in a bathing suit. I have had those and cut it out. So for a successful trip you need, sturdy kayaks , proper gear,a means to carry enough fresh water ,good weather and a beautiful amazing woman . Great journey . Great videoing as always
haha yessir 🙌🙌
❤one of my favourites! Thanks for taking us on the adventure !
Woweee, what a fabulous video! Rachyl, you’re an inspiration!
As always Noah....a great chronicle of a wonderful trip by you and Rachel.....including the friends you made along the way. You really had a great weather experience...being able to get what you needed for longer exposed crossings, and finding shelter and friends in ducking the two storms. Your films bring back so many memories of great trips I have taken over many years from Gates of the Arctic to Baffin Island to the high Sierras in CA and the Presidentials in New Hampshire. Your drone footage provides real perspectives on the lands you are traveling and especially the complexity of the shoreline in the islands areas. Always look forward to each of your adventures. Can you tell us what you have possibly planned for 2024?
Noah and Rachyl ! What an amazing video. You are a team to be sure! And Noah I share your pain with the swim short mesh. That stuff is like Chainmail!
You can see where your white water experience came into play. Great stuff. Rachel is a natural ( you tuber and sea kayaker)
Thanks guys, agreed, there's got to be a better solution than mesh that protects the boys
Amazing trip, I love this channel ❤
🙏🙏
Feeling inspired for 2024. Thanks.
❤🎉have been waiting for this video since You Began this adventure in August!:)
Truly a special place! One of our favourite places to visit and explore via sea Kayak as well as To support the 100 Wild Islands!
Amazing you two!!
We must have just missed you as well! We were camping at Murphy’s!
Its my favourite shore, especially the 100 wild islands :)
😅the morning news is usually a downer, finally, I can say something positive.Saw your interview and watched your video, feel so proud of our province, than, you both for sharing.
Rachel is movie star material. Fabulous video. TY for sharing. Blessings.
God, I love Nova Scotia. So happy to live and explore here ... and what I haven't seen, I travel through you guys! Awesome trip.
Noah no words about this incredible voyage with Raychel. The videography with the narration and the soundtrack(s) were as always 💯. Congratulations and continued adventures.
PS the geology lessons were as always enlightening.
Thanks Paul! 🙏
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos. Thank you so much for taking us along on such a beautiful paddle. I love my kayak, but small inland lakes are enough adventure for me. I also love learning about the geology of the places you visit. Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching, Cara
So awesome complete strangers let you into their homes.
Well done you two - glad you had this adventure together. Thanks again Noah for the geo info ; my research was based in QC, NB, & AB, so I’m always fascinated to learn more about other areas.
Such an amazing adventure! I stayed at Murphy's with my family when I was six so it was really neat to see you guys stop in there for water. Thanks for sharing :)
Hi Noah and Rachel, stunning coastal scenery…. Only in the maritimes…. What a awesome adventure you guys must have had,
Fellow Nova Scotian here loving watching your adventures and I can't help being impressed with the pretty awesome lady you have there especially on this adventure. Have a zodiac I look forward to getting out on the bay with and wouldn't be apposed at all to taking you out if intetested.
This was a joy to watch! Thanks for taking us along your adventure!
Hi Noah and Rachyl, what an amazing trip! And that for inexperienced kayakers (but not inexperienced wilderness people of course). To my chagrin, I never made it to the Canso Barrens despite trying hard (long story). Maybe this year.... I've camped and kayaked a lot along the stretch between Owl's Head and Liscomb and your video is truly representative of our stunning eastern shore. My only hope is that it doesn't get watched so much that half the world will descend on us. And you managed to find the boulder with the giant marcasite crystal too:)). One comment: I'm surprised you don't use a paddle strap. Cheap and you'll never worry about losing your paddle in the surf. I was surprised about your threatening water shortage. But then, I don't take camera gear, wet suits and fishing gear. I'm glad you did the NS Nature Trust promotion (yes, we have donated to this excellent organization), but I have to add here that my other fav nature protecting organization is the CPAWS-NS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - NS division). Their determination to provide the scientific basis for protecting fragile Nova Scotia natural areas is unparalleled and their work was instrumental in the fight for the protection of Owl's Head and Archibald Lake.
Thanks for the note on the CPAWS-NS. Regarding the paddle strap, it was an accessory we considered but ended up thinking it may have been more of a nuisance than an asset
Excellent work! Epic journey, great editing, just solid all around! This is absolutely my favorite channel on TH-cam. Great work on the music too!
Wow, thanks Kevin 🙌
Love your canoe trips, but this certainly was an epic adventure! We both were laughing about the brutal honesty of peeing in a kayak...😂. Rachel looks so much like our oldest granddaughter it’s uncanny!🤯😊.
😂😂
I feel so sad when these videos end. They are always so good. ❤
Halifax reminds me of the Swissair crash! A family man in our neighborhood was the co-Pilot he had three small children and we know him well! It was sad for our village, the Pilot was also from the neighboring village!
Thank you for the GEOLOGY!! It was such an enjoyable addition.
Any time you want to provide more, I'll be watching - with friends.
Yes mam. Geology is a blast from the past
Wow!! Incredible trip!
My sea kayaking has been limited to day trips on the Maine coast, so I have a great appreciation for this accomplishment. Excellent vide, great team, and demonstration of careful planning and judgement.
Great kayak trip ! Cool video, you are, as always, very patient to videotape your aventure... Bravo and thank you for sharing !
Just small tip to land safely on shore when the big waves want to push you into surf towards the beach : turn your kayak around, paddle forward in the waves to stabelize the kayak and avoid the surf, then quickly paddle backward in between waves toward the shore at you own speed, always in control, an eye on the next waves.😊
Thanks for the tip. That seems easier than constantly looking backwards
Fantastic trip. Love the natural history you’ve added to the narration, especially the geologic history and geomorphology. Yay for deep time!
Thanks, you two, for another great adventure. It was pretty relaxing for us to watch, not that we haven’t enjoyed ALL Northern Scavenger adventures….several times, but they’re a little more intense with all that Boney-ness😁. Love Rachel! She’s top notch. Good adventuresome spirit. Always looking forward to the next trip.
You are both made of pretty strong stuff to attempt this route let alone to pull it off! Hats off to your spirit of adventure. This is A-List viewing for anybody who loves nature and the inherent challenges of moving through it.
Thanks so much, David. Glad you enjoyed this one
