I have been waiting since the album release for more footage from these sessions! This is priceless insight into Dawes' and Blake Mills' creative process. Thanks for making this public, and thanks for all of your other quality content!
Taylor Goldsmith- I want to say there's like three songs in the entire Dawes catalog that Taylor didn't write so he writes like 99% of them not to mention the stuff he wrote on Middle Brother. Not trying to say otherwise, he's THE BEST, dude :))
Besides the actual album, this is the best gift you could give us Dawes fans! Thanks so much for documenting this process--they are lucky to have you and we are lucky to have this awesome film.
Melissa Greenberg THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Honestly- that means a lot to me! Once I knew Blake was on board and how deep the hangs would get in the studio, I knew their fans would be stoked if I captured it so you saying all that really makes me happy. You rule! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I watched this doc when it first came out. I love seeing it now when this album is history, 2 albums down the pipeline and more to come. A great window in to a time that feels so far away.
Seeing stuff like this makes me love a band so much more. Didn't think I had any more love to give to Dawes, but here it is! Thanks for capturing such dope footage!
Wilson Sawyer totally!! I know exactly what you mean and I'm so stoked you love the dudes more now! That's like the best compliment I can get after someone watching this! :))
This is fantastic. Love the album, love the band and love the way you let us look behind the scenes here - thanks for all the hard work put in this fil. Cheers from Germany!!!
Dear Kevin, Thank you for this! It's beautifully done and it's so great to have a window into the creative and production processes of these talented guys. And it proves that Wylie is the funniest member of the band. With love from a Dawes Nerd
coneyislandgirl930 you're so welcome!! Thank you so much for the kind words and yeah- Wylie's a fully time comedian/part time musician! He's looney tunes 😊😊
These guys give me hope for the future of music. North Hills blew my mind when it came out and I never thought it could get better then that. I'm 51 years old and i've seen them multiple times live now and this new record, (while at first it seemed to illicit some blow back from the nice folks who prefer their Dawes tunes a little more straight ahead) is a masterpiece! My teenage kids have grown up hearing Dawes in the background. My 70 parents, who love Dawes also, have suffered as I try to cover Dawes songs on an acoustic at sunday lunches. My teenagers now proudly share Dawes with anyone who'll listen. This music. This album. These guys and gals who worked on this record have created something very special. I hope they are proud of what they have created. My real hope is that they continue the good work they started. I can't wait for whats next. This film was an absolute joy to watch. I couldn't resist the urge to go on what my kids call a "dad rant".
72earthwood just one humble man's opinion, but that was a GLORIOUS dad rant!! Thanks for the kind words! And yes, I know the whole gang is very proud of this record and I can tell you first hand- they're going to keep putting out great tunes! As you obviously know, these dudes are the real deal. I'll be putting out some more things on this channel here and there so stay tuned!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
This is so very well done! Thank you for doing this! It's just the thing for any Dawes fan who can never get enough (me). I love hearing in their own voices their perspectives affecting decisions for this album.
Thank you so much for making this, Kevin! A fantastic group of musicians, and what a treat to see Blake at work. I'm working on recording my first set of tunes now and have obsessively listened to his work to try and grab any nuggets I can. A joyful hour and a half this is!
Emily Downie you're welcome!! And I agree, no amount is enough.. I've got a whole lot more from this thing that I'll be posting here and there so stay tuned! :))
Cheers Kevin, this was awesome. Glad to know most of my assumptions about the song meanings were on point. Not that they're particularly mysterious.... Also I love how pretty much 75% of this video is just Wylie grooving in the background of the shot.
Oh wow! Christmas in April! Only 30 minutes in, but I love it! I can definitely see watching this a couple times! I REALLY loved this album, and i think history will look back on it being one of their very best! Thanks for putting this out!
CactusChad I totally agree- I think initially some people slept on this record but I think (sooner than we both think) people will understand how truly epic/beautiful this record is! Stoked you liked it, dude!
thank you for this! i love the insight into the creative process and the people behind the music with such grace. Also taylor in the straw hat at 35 minutes is just awesome :)
Amazing. Not sure who you are Kevin, but you did a fantastic job. Can't wait for the rest of this tour and another new album (and maybe another movie?)
VERY cool to see/listen to the process behind the record. Thanks for making this and sharing. Who knew Wylie could talk so much...or at all??? LOL. Nice dog he's got as well. Seeing Dawes in Baltimore in June--can't wait to spend an evening with the boys.
Thanks a million, dude! That really means a lot to me! Yeah- I'm making some new things with the guys. Nothing like this as of right now but I've been filming some live videos that I'll be posting here soon. I'm going to start posting a lot so stay tuned!
When you become a real fan of a band, and that band grows and keeps getting better, that is just the complete and total shit as a music fan. Thanks for this movie. It is great. It feels really honest. One thing that was not mentioned in the movie, which really stands out to me on this album, is Taylor's singing. It is so nuanced and soulful and melodic--even more so than on previous albums.
Yes!! Glad you liked it!! And I totally here you about Taylor's singing- I have a bunch of footage of him singing and I did get into it during my interviews with him but but let me tell you, editing is heartbreaking when you've fell in love with everything you've shot. Initially, I wanted to make this like 5 hours long and put it out in smaller pieces for like a year but once I cut it down to what you're saw here I really felt like each song get explained and a story was told. When I'm not so busy I'll dig through the footage and cut something up for you and post it. I'm totally on your team with the vocals!
Thanks for putting this together! That's totally the funky boat looking building on Hyperion St isn't it? I've driven past it for years never knowing what it was. Is it the studio they recorded We're All Gonna Die in?
That won't happen anytime soon, I'm sorry but I'll post some more stuff from the record here and there for sure. Maybe in time we'll put something out like that with a whole lotta bonus features- I got enough to make another whole movie, easy!
Me and my wife traveled to Charleston from Oslo, Norway to go to the High Water Festival this weekend. Dawes are playing and it's gonna be our 4th show with them. The festival starts tomorrow so tonight we thought we'd watch a movie or something at the hotel. That's when I saw something about this movie on Instagram. BOOM! Your movie will make the Dawes show this weekend even better. So inspiring. Thank you!
just picked up the colored vinyl. the record color I thought was gonna be yellow. Anyways this album is very good the production is great and the record pressing came out fantastic.
Cause in a roundabout way Casey's vlogs helped me make this movie in terms of gear and work ethic and whatnot. He's just the man and I feel like it was only right to acknowledge him. As well as Gary Vaynerchuk.
Thanks and I really hope you come around to it!! I wouldn't say they really needed a change but I think it was great that they changed it up for this record. The songs are still SO Dawes even the Boesel ones to me and I think it breathed new life into the way they're playing live these days (which is SOOO BEYOND) and their catalog in a way that I think will be understood/appreciated in hindsight. They're really on some wild shit on this record so I hear where you're coming from but don't give up on it!! And there's no way you're not going to be giving you more of what you love about them on later albums. Our dude's were just experimenting in the kitchen, man.. Sometimes that what you gotta do. Stay tuned though- I got some videos on deck that are going to blow your balls off!
I have been waiting since the album release for more footage from these sessions! This is priceless insight into Dawes' and Blake Mills' creative process. Thanks for making this public, and thanks for all of your other quality content!
Thanks a million, dude!! That really means a lot to me!!
Does Taylor (can't remember his name) the lead singer, not write the songs? He does... you can't tell me otherwise. He's the BEST SONGWRITER EVER.
Taylor Goldsmith- I want to say there's like three songs in the entire Dawes catalog that Taylor didn't write so he writes like 99% of them not to mention the stuff he wrote on Middle Brother. Not trying to say otherwise, he's THE BEST, dude :))
2019...I have to work in the morning...and yet hear I sit at 1:30 a.m...falling more in love. Just found Dawes! This movie is addicting.
Hahaha!! Thanks a lot!! So glad you liked it!!
Besides the actual album, this is the best gift you could give us Dawes fans! Thanks so much for documenting this process--they are lucky to have you and we are lucky to have this awesome film.

I. FUCKING. LOVE. THIS. BAND. May they always stay together!!!!
Yeah- they're the truth!!
Almost two years later and I'm still watching the shit out of this on the regular. Got damn.
Their time was well spent, so much joy was given to me!
Already loved the album but this makes me hear it like it's the first time and enjoy it in a completley new way. Great job!
Martijn Koetsier thanks dude! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I think we are all going to be expecting one of these for every Dawes album, or just any band that Blake touches.
Hahahaha!!! I mean.. I'll do my best
Thanks Kevin Hayes, the evolution of Dawes is inspiring. Whats coming next? Come back to Boulder, CO soon
Jack Duncan you're welcome! And I'm assuming a whole lot more good 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Thanks so much, dude!! I'm so stoked you enjoyed it to so much! I got some more stuff on the way! :))
This is fantastic. Love the album, love the band and love the way you let us look behind the scenes here - thanks for all the hard work put in this fil. Cheers from Germany!!!

Love Dawes! And what a great documentary!! Thank you for it!
A hug from Spain!
Álvaro Guerrero thanks dude! Glad you liked it! 🙌🏽

Codetta South you're welcome, man!! So stoked you're into it 🙌🏽🙌🏽
This is so very well done! Thank you for doing this! It's just the thing for any Dawes fan who can never get enough (me). I love hearing in their own voices their perspectives affecting decisions for this album.

Great documentary!!! Makes me want to buy my ticket for the June 24th show.
Chris Ladouceur thanks dude!! And do it!!
Thank you so much for making this, Kevin! A fantastic group of musicians, and what a treat to see Blake at work. I'm working on recording my first set of tunes now and have obsessively listened to his work to try and grab any nuggets I can. A joyful hour and a half this is!
Man this was awesome. These guys really gelled and I hear the record in a whole new way!
Thanks dude!! I totally feel like they did too- they really killed it with this one
This is Fucking awesome... thankyou so much no amount of footage will ever be enough
Emily Downie you're welcome!! And I agree, no amount is enough.. I've got a whole lot more from this thing that I'll be posting here and there so stay tuned! :))

j88k001 thanks dude!! Yeah- once they started working on this record I knew other people would find all this stuff as interesting as I do!
Cheers Kevin, this was awesome. Glad to know most of my assumptions about the song meanings were on point. Not that they're particularly mysterious.... Also I love how pretty much 75% of this video is just Wylie grooving in the background of the shot.
Peanut Turner first and foremost he's a dancer, then tool man, then bass player. He's a man of many talents
Loved this film. I've just discovered this band and now I feel I know them and love the individuals and collective
So enjoyable watching some behind the scenes of such an awesome band. Great documentary
Love it...just started watching.
Kevin--I'm loving this! Thanks so much for documenting this!
Thanks! And you're welcome :))
Oh wow! Christmas in April! Only 30 minutes in, but I love it! I can definitely see watching this a couple times! I REALLY loved this album, and i think history will look back on it being one of their very best! Thanks for putting this out!

Can't WAIT to dig into this. Love these guys - thank you for making this. I can't imagine how many hours of editing this took!
Jeff Conrad haha! Yeah, it took a minute! I mean, this is an hour and a half of like 50 hours I shot. Hope you like it, dude!! :))
I really enjoyed this. It was really educational and well done. I learned a lot and can appreciate this record a lot more now.
Thanks, dude!! Educational and well done was exactly what I was going for! For real, thanks!!
Love this band. I honestly wasn't feeling this album but this doc made me appreciate the album a lot more.
Chris C. I'm stoked on that! 🙌🏽
Wow, The greatest shit ever. Thank you Kevin, this is the real deal.
Jesse Polak haha! Glad you like it- thanks dude!!
i had no idea this existed until right now and im so happy
REALLY dug this. Nice work. Simple and effective storytelling. It's nice to see where the songs came from. What's that outro track at the very end?
Nick Ljubicich thanks dude! That really means a lot! That tune is just another gem Taylor has in his back pocket 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I lost count of how many times I’ve played back Griffin’s cigarette trick at the end 😂😂😂 gets me every time!
HAHAHA!! I'm going to let him know you said that- he's gonna be STOKED!!
Does anyone know that little keyboard thing that ole dude was joking around on playing Jurassic Park??
C B Look up OP-1 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Kevin Hayes, thank you for this my friend. I've watched your little film about three times. Any chance you're doing more work with these guys?
Thanks a million, dude! That really means a lot to me! Yeah- I'm making some new things with the guys. Nothing like this as of right now but I've been filming some live videos that I'll be posting here soon. I'm going to start posting a lot so stay tuned!

What't the Liftoff song he mentioned at 5:27 for recording One of Us? I want to look it up... who is it by?
Jay Z, Kanye West, Beyoncé
Thanks for putting this together! That's totally the funky boat looking building on Hyperion St isn't it? I've driven past it for years never knowing what it was. Is it the studio they recorded We're All Gonna Die in?
Yeah! It's a studio and it's called The Boat (or at least that's what we called it). They recorded half the record there. First half was at EastWest
Please make a DVD/BLURAY
That won't happen anytime soon, I'm sorry but I'll post some more stuff from the record here and there for sure. Maybe in time we'll put something out like that with a whole lotta bonus features- I got enough to make another whole movie, easy!
I understand. Thank you for getting back. You're an artist and Dawes is the best band of our time. Thank you for this Documentary.
Thanks for watching, dude!!
I've watched this at least once a week since it was posted.
CotymoG that's so rad!! Glad you like it 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Awesome documentary.
Joshua Kirk thanks dude!!

Cool Beans, Saw you at Cains, Rock on..
Paul Bryden 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Dawes is an awesome band.
PREACH!!!
I want a supercut of Wylie's interviews.
It reminds of music from the civil war era
Chris Stills on Manassas? 😉❤️💙
Anyone know what the song at the end is?
Zach H unfortunately it didn’t made the record- It’s a banger though!
ah dang, if only Dawes loved bonus tracks as much as I do!
George Clooney mixing on we're all gonna die!
Hahahaha!! That's a good one!! That's our dude, Greg :))
Who needs to study for their exam that they have tomorrow morning when they can watch this at 1 AM?
Could someone explain to me why Casey Neistat got "big ups" in the acknowledgement
Cause in a roundabout way Casey's vlogs helped me make this movie in terms of gear and work ethic and whatnot. He's just the man and I feel like it was only right to acknowledge him. As well as Gary Vaynerchuk.
❤
Nice video but damn I'm not a fan of their new sound. I hope they somewhat go back to their old sound or get away from Blake.
Here is a question why is the grandma that can’t pronounce anything there 😂😂?
That’s so sick you caught that! That’s my mom! She just pulled up to say hello one day :))
@@majesticenterprise5746 that’s so crazy I’ve watched your videos with you and her so much! Hilarious!
Would be 100x better if mic'ed more closely. :/ Sorry to be that guy who criticizes...
