A suggestion for a polished airplane, to test coatings. If you can get a sheet of aluminum, polish it to perfection, section it off into patches and apply your test coatings to each patch, but keep one patch bare. (label each patch of course) Then put it outside to weather. Sprinkle some oil or fuel on it from time to time, wash it when you wash your flying airplane, but keep it outside. After a few months, preferably a year to see all 4 seasons see how the coatings stand up.
Excellent episode and a great job Chelsea. This was a great topic, very informative. Its really cool to see Mindy on the show. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
Have either of you tried a Ceramic coating on your plane? I wonder how it would work on polished aluminum. And as for having a second pair of eyes on your plane, I had a different A&P for every 3rd annual. I trusted my regular A&P but wanted to make sure my plane wasn't getting an inspection by "Habit".
That phase 1 and phase 2 of the inspection process comes from savvy aviation. They are a phenomenal resource. All the shops that work with savvy will likely run that style of program.
The secret is Become friends with an IA who can let you do your own work/ assist you and sign off for you Cause whatever plane you buy is gonna need work. Everyone has a neglected list of stuff to do. Even simple stuff like servicing the struts and flushing all the 5606 doesn’t get done cause people are afraid of the costs. Get yourself some good tools and an IA friend. Its great to know your airplane inside and out anyway
@@pisymbol “savy prebuy” is gonna go a lot better under the supervision of an IA. Even if they’re not familiar with that aircraft, they’re still going to know way more about it than you. Also they know way more about technical specs, how to read the logs and what to look for, and can find manuals and spec information way easier than you can. I know you’re just trying to be contrarian, but there really is no way having an IA friend yourself isnt the answer. Especially because they know more people with more knowledge. When i bought my Cherokee, the exhaust ports were alllll pitted and the thing leaked so bad i was constantly getting co2 in the pit. My IA friends introduced me to a different IA with an exhaust refinisher Also a talented welder who, when some of my exhaust studs snapped off in my cylinder, helped me weld on new bolts and extract them. Aviation is a small world and people are looking to pass on the knowledge Have some can do attitude
Hire buyer broker or contact AOPA for legal recommendations prior to signing contract. Contract should include what happens with issues that come up during pre buy. Pre buy from an independent detail oriented A&P. Don't use anyone suggested by the seller broker or seller. Must include engine borescope images and pictures from all the inspection locations.
If you find a plane through a broker. Look up the owner. Contact the owner and go direct. Not cutting out broker you pay the broker their fee and you’ll avoid sales tax.
Using a broker doesn’t mean the title passes through the brokerage. It’s brokered and not a dealership. So even using a broker service such as myself, the contract and title passes directly From the seller to the end buyer. So no need to try and go direct…same outcome! (And avoiding sales tax from a casual sale is state dependent)
@@Schmiiindy must be state specific like you said. I’m in the worst state. Nj. I only say that from what I’ve observed and heard from a good friend who’s owned many planes and people I’ve sought plane buying advice from. I do appreciate what all you do though. AND your content 😁. And in any case I definitely wasn’t implying to cut you out as that was the first thing I said in response was that I wouldn’t do that to someone. But he said you still pay the broker. Maybe in nj it’s done differently. Like every other thing in this dump. But nj is the worst state to do anything in. Ive got a couple years left and im out.

I simply do not see the value in two gals with only a few years of flying experience trying to use the social media game of selling their wares. Knowledge comes from experience and mistakes come from the lack of experience. Professional results are associated with experience. Don’t buy a piston plane without hardened valve seats already installed or you will be crying as low lead avgas gets phased out. Gami 100UL doesn’t protect valve seat wear.
Great interview with two great ladies in aviation! Thanks!

Good morning from Minnesota! Great interview!
Great job you two!
I loved the video! Chelsea it's "TAKINGOFF" one word all caps on this channel 😎
Great clarification by Schmiindy. The fresh annual is not a substitute for the pre-buy

Do you think if I contact a broker they can help me find a friend who's also an a&p
Savvy Prebuy is an easier and in some cases even better bet: You not only need a friendly IA but one who is familiar with that type.

Have some friends who ceramic ciated their polished aluminum Airstream travel trailer. Its held up quite well...
Ive been trying to buy my first plane for about a year. Quite a frustrating experience, but Im still hopeful.

A polished plane is surprisingly lighter. Which means faster, more powerful, better fuel mileage.
Should do a video on how to find a hangar because that is harder than getting the plane 😂
An aircraft broker saying buying with an aircraft broker is important 😂
You don't need a broker for a prebuy an escrow, a title check. They are utterly useless
Hey I made that joke myself first, you can’t take it. 😂
