    I love these videos! Analyzing real world applications of music theory is just incredibly interesting, and really helpful in improving one's own theoretical and practical understanding.

    Thanks for the great analysis, which de-mystified this tune for me!

    Cool, just recently started learning to play this. Great song, love it. Anyways, I learnt to play it a bit differently. You played in the A section G7#5-Cm7-G7#5-Cm7 to the V7, the way I play it is G7#5-Cm7-G7#5-C9. I don't know which it's right, but I think it sounds great either way.
    Thanks for the videos, I always learn a lot.

      Most real books write C7

      It is true, in the Real book it appears as C7 but in most of the versions that are recorded of this song they play Cm7 and do not play C7

    Would you improvise D phrygian on all the Dm7 chords (iii) or rather recommend the more practical D dorian mode instead?

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the Dm7 chord is a replacement for the BbMaj7 the D Phrygian sounds more natural.

    Hello. Why the Eb maj7 is not considered like the IV degré of the Bb scale? ( at the limit ii sub but note vi sub cause Cm7 is very close to Eb maj7)

    Hi friend. I don't quite understand how the C#dim is a substitute for V7/V (C7). They don't share a function or a tritone... thanks :)

    • @Deluca-Piano
      @Deluca-Piano 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's seeing it as a rootless C7 flat 9 chord which does share a tritone of E and B flat. The C sharp is enharmonic to a D flat.

    Thanks for thevideo! What note pools do you use over the dimished scales? Half whole / whole half? Harmonic minor?

    Isn’t it the C#dim a V7 / II(sub)?

    Recommendation: first play the it through using the chords that will be explained. You eventually lost me, and I wonder what it would sound like all together. Unfortunately only at the end came the (minimalistic) play through - which did not really make full use of the explained chords. Pity.
