Cher....awesome singer, songwriter, and actress. Cher is awesome. Before Lady Gaga, she had the incredible Bob Mackie gowns. Original Diva. I do love Lady Gaga as well, but someone had to go first.

There were divas before Cher that's for sure.. Like Judy Garland and many other Golden Age Hollywood era divas that acted, sang and danced.
Mae West may have the silver screen's first diva.
Cher and Streisand both came out around the same time maybe a few years apart so I would say those two divas are part of that 60's era of divas that are still alive to this day.

@@kekwayblaze3176 Sorry I'm late in commenting on your very astute summary! We can go back to the very beginning. I think the true divas started in the 1920's with Sophie Tucker and Bessie Smith. Sophie Tucker was SCANDALOUS! SHE shocked everyone with her risqué comedy and songs! What a voice! Bessie Smith could sing, too! Then Mae West came and showed up Sophie! Mae was incredible! Also a trailblazer in flaunting her sexualty. There was a reason the sailors in WW2 called their life vests "Mae Wests"! Of course, as you already know, there were so many wonderful actresses and singers that easily fell

It's pronounced "jip-see". That was the name given to the Roma people in the Middle Ages, because they came to Europe through Egypt. They were originally from India (ha!), a nomadic people who wandered through the world. The title refers to the fact that the Roma had a reputation for being tramps and thieves, when really they were just scrabbling to survive however they could.

    • @Serai3

    • @Opalbird1

Serai3 the Roma people were a tribe from India that were booted from the country because of their thieving ways. They were travellers living in wagons that spread out throughout Europe and finally settled in Romania mostly. Some stayed in England/Ireland, some came to the America’s. there are many branches of them. Some are roving farm labourers, some still steal and thieve for a living. They were called Gypsies, and mistakenly called Romanians.

Appreciate your taking time to look at this...gives a historic perspective on where music has changed. Tough subjects and story telling have alwsys been part of music and how they are presented has changed. Cher, a legend over several decades wrote the book on transformation, reinvention, style, musicianship and was a pioneer in visual appeal for all those who follow.
Her story telling continued in "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady". Shecreinventrd again with " Take Mrme Home" in the Disco Era. Great success in the early 90's with a harder "rock" approach with "I've Found Someone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time". A major change and trend setting happened with "Belive", cutting edge blend of EDM and the first real application of "auto tune" for a complimentary effect.....(not to mention her acting career "Silkwood" , "Moonstruck", "Mask", "Suspect" etc.

Buy a couple of those compilations of the 60's and 70's biggest hits and you will get a pretty good education and enjoy it!

Cher has her own sense of fashion, often headlining the entertainment news of the day. She's 73 years old now, and still looking good. I think you want to watch the movie "Mermaids" (1990) where she plays a single mother with two daughters; heart-warming, sweet with a bit of real life thrown in. And "Moonstruck" (1987), pretty much everyone likes that movie.

@@EvolvedComics Mask (not the Jim Carrey one) is pretty serious, great movie. Light-hearted song, I was thinking of light-hearted movies.

Cher is amazing! So glad you reacted to her... You should definitely react to more of her because she has so many different genres that she covers from folk - pop - pop/rock - dance - country she’s really amazing and still going strong in her 70s still looking absolutely stunning Xx

Thank you for reacting to such a wide variety of music. For
me, it is hard to find modern day music that measures up to old school music.
Back then people actually played instruments, didn’t “sample” from other
artists, and had to sing without autotune. I did find one new artist that blew
me away! He is extraordinarily talented but virtually unknown. His name is Dan
Tedesco. I saw him preform live. Please do a reaction to Dan Tedesco “American
Darkness” (or Dan Tedesco “Maybe I Should Do More Drugs”). Thank you!
