    As the supportive mother of a FTM son, I like how you respect your mom's feelings about the name she chose for you at birth. It sounds too hard to call something given to you out of love a 'dead name.'
    Your channel is great , you tell it like it is and clearly explain everything. Although we resect our son's decision to transgender, and talk lot , there are some things that are very personal and others that I didnt even realise were a thing!😊
    Congratulations to you for becoming who you are and best wishes for the future. ❤
    PS Im sure you will forgive me if I used some expressions wrongly. I' d never heard FTM for example until one of your videos popped up on TH-cam!
    Im learning, though!

    Feel like a lot of people do this but I basically chose the closest ‘male’ version to my birth name. I think it made it easier for a lot of people to make the switch in their head and for me personally it felt natural straight away and took no time to get used to.

    I had the intuition to change my name in 2016, and I thought of various Muslim and South Asian men's names, but none of them stuck. Then one day in the summer I received the name Sikander from God, so I adopted that name.

    Dakota is such a cool name and it suits you so much!! Also, to anyone searching for a name for themselves, it took me literally 2 years to find my name, so it'll eventually happen, it's okay if you know you're trans but can't find your name for a while. And same, I found it just searching for names online, so keep on searching and you'll find it.🌟 And totally agree, try those names out, write them down, subscribe to something with that name, etc. Thanks for the video, love the conclusion! (PS I think naming yourself is awesome, my name is Nael, and I'm so happy with it, I feel like I have the most beautiful name in the world haha and love it when people say it's a beautiful name because I picked it myself)

    • @aktdoa
      @aktdoa  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nael is a really nice name, very unique!! The internet is a great source for names, although sometimes the older baby name books have some cool hidden gems that aren’t as popular nowadays. I agree that naming yourself doesn’t have to be an immediate thing, I think I just got lucky with how quickly I found Dakota :D

    im a young trans lad (maybe not idk im confused af) and i really like the name oscar, but idk if its the best name for me. i love it, and it applies to me in so many ways, but idk if people would accept me more if i had a name closer to my birthname. just yesterday, my parents were talking about how even if you dont agree with what your child is saying/doing, you need to support them as they're your kid. the thing is, i dont want that. i want them to see me for who i am, and the realization that they wont is probably why im terrified to come out (sorry for ranting)

      @Ann25429 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm right there with you ! Confused af but I'm pretty sure I'm trans ( I just don't want to accept it because of family and internalized transphobia). What I've heard thus far is to pick what feels right and if Oscar feels good I'd go for it! Don't let others determine your name for you. Have a wonderful day my friend 😊

    When I came out a couple of years ago, I chose a name that was basically the masculine version of my deadname and also the name that most people already called me. But I started to feel very uncomfortable after about a year using that name and decided to change to my current name; Benji. I feel like the only reason I stuck with other name so long was to help the people around me, which I fully regret. But anyways, I legally changed my name to Benji about a month ago, and I'm so happy I ended up choosing that name.

      hey I am in the same situation right now and I kinda struggle to find a name I really feel comfortable in.
      How did u know what your name is and how did you inform your environment about changing your name again?

    • @DumboJumbow
      @DumboJumbow ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fin81376 I don't remember how I really found my name, I just remember that while I was still using my previous name I started telling some friends about my new name and asking them to use it, I also changed my name on some social media platforms, and even started using it when ordering food all to see how it felt. I recommend trying some of those techniques with a name/names that you like, and see if it feels comfortable, and dont worry if it takes a few tries before you find a name that suits you and the person you are. I knew my name was my name when I started assosiating it with the person I am.
      In terms of how I informed my environment, it started with some close friends, then casually changing social media usernames, and then telling my parents, which luckily for me are super supportive about my transition, so telling them about the change wasn't extremely dificult, although I did feel quite guilty (which I shouldn't have). After that, it kind of just started catching on to the people around me.
      Hope this was helpful, I'm kinda tired so my writing might be a bit confusing, lol.

    Never actually knew that Dakota is a male name. In my native language all names ending with "a" are female.
    Anyways now I know the story of your name. :) I think your mom did a great job when she picked the name Aspen. Gender neutral names are the best.
    Adrian is after Roman emperor. It kinda "clicked". Zen is similar to my birthname (I don't like to call it dead name either). And it's a short form of Zenodoros (Greek meaning "gift of Zeus"). I was really into ancient Greek and Roman culture at that time.
    I'm also going by my nickname since childhood Zhanis. It's a male form of my birthname. So that was kinda easy for others to get used to.

    My husband, on the other hand, despite being a cis male, doesn't like his Ukrainian name. So, on the the documents and at work he goes by his birth name, but with me and his friends he goes by his favorite Hungerian name. I had to adjust to the name that he goes by but it much better now .
    I share that with you, in order to confirm that indeed, some cis people dispise their name and change it...

    when I had switched schools years ago I chose the name Ash which is different from my birth name and then later came to Ashlyn but now that I've been exploring my gender identity Ash feels genderfluid but when I chose it I still felt quite feminine so now couple years later it is associated to be feminine in my head and now I've been trying to find another name but I always feel like it has to match my appearance so it's been a struggle. I used to roleplay and make characters and I'd spend so long trying to think of a name that would fit them. I really like the name Zay a lot I've stuck to it for a few years honestly but idk how well I think it fits my appearance and what to do. I'm worried if I choose that name but don't find it fitting it'll spiral into more identity crisis :< what should I do? if you can give any advice.

    • @DumboJumbow
      @DumboJumbow ปีที่แล้ว

      Your name doesn't necessarily have to match your appearance, it just has to be something that feels right to you, a name that makes you feel comfortable and happy. Names are just words made up by humans so we can be recognized as individuals, so I just think that you should choose a name that feels authentically you. :)

    I have some questions abt name changes:
    First i am not binary trans, but non binary (trigenderflux i think). I have been thinking of changing my name for some time. like not legaly, but around friends and sth. I have a pretty feminine 'deadname'. Charlie is a name that id probably change to.
    So first: is it normal that it feels weird, like it doesnt feel bad, just like im not used to it.
    And second: is it normal, that it didnt take me very long to come up with that name. Like ive always felt kinda connected to that name, but never seriously thought abt changing it, bc my gender identity always changes. So pls help me, im confused😭😭

      Yes and yes, anecdotally. I'm a trans guy and
      1) When I first changed my name, it definitely took a bit of getting used to for me too. I guess that as much as a person can hate their birth name, it's still what they're trained to respond to.
      2) To pick my name, I randomly thought of it one day and thought it sounded cool and was like damn that would make a nice name, and it is now my name. Very little thought went into it.
      So it's pretty normal :)

      Don't know whether you wanted opinions but here goes: If you like the name Nico, I think you should get priority over a dnd character - maybe you can even ask your friend to rename their character if its important to you not to have the character around. Also, it's only your dnd group that'll make that connection, the rest of the world doesn't know I suppose..unless you're the next critical role ;) :))
