I grew up there or rather spent about 7 years there. I graduated from Wayzata HS. We lived two blocks off the lake but they razed our Cape Cod home and put up a McMansion in the early 2000s. In my era Harts Cafe was on the corner of Broadway and Lake St -- the main drag. There was also a bakery and a dress or Ace Hardware shop across from Harts. I think Sunset Restaurant is where Harts used to be. Up on the hill across from the library Winstead School became pricey condos. St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and School on Hwy 12 is where my brother and sister attended back in the day. After Wayzata HA I recall 4 years of taking the Greyhound into Minneapolis, then a city bus to University of Minnesota. My folks moved away in the early 1990s up to Lake Vermillion and BWCA. I no longer recognize Wayzata. It's the Beverly Hills of Minnesota these days. But everything changes. I live in the South now as do all my children and grandchildren. But my folks are buried up there. In many ways it's always going to be home. Have lovely memories of Wayzata and recall some amazing people.
