I'm only 2 minutes in and I love how you're putting a positive spin on all the cons and giving tips to make them even better. ❤ Thanks for making this!
Born and raised in MN, for 50 years…it’s beautiful there…but the winters, I just couldn’t anymore. So moved to TN, and now have 2 months of horrible hot humid weather, 1 month of 30 degree temps, kinda, and 9 months of perfect.
I’m closing in on my retirement and I’d like to move from Minnesota to a warmer climate, but the prices on homes are stupidly ridiculous and Mortgage prices has been skyrocketing on a roll(currently over 7%) do I just invest my spare cash into stock and wait for a housing crash or should I go ahead to buy a home anyways?
If anything, it'll get worse. Very soon, affordable housing will no longer be affordable. So anything anyone want to do, I will advise they do it now because the prices today will look like dips tomorrow. Until the Fed clamps down even further, I think we're going to see hysteria due to rampant inflation. You can't halfway rip the band-aid off.
Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.
I appreciate the implementation of ideas and strategies that result to unmeasurable progress. Being heavily liquid, I'd rather not reinvent the wheel, thus the search for a reputable advisor, mind sharing info of this person guiding you please?
Finding financial advisors like Laura Grace Abels who can assist you on things like investing, insurance, making sure retirement is well funded, going over tax benefits, ways to have a volatility buffer for investment risk would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.

Fucking REAL!!! I lived in Fort Worth back in the early-aughts and, as a born-and-raised Colorado girl, it was always a sight to behold just how never-prepared Texas is for anything resembling winter weather… even though they get it every year!!! Same for Oklahoma!! 🤯
I'm 68 and I left the Twin Cities last October for Palm Springs, CA. I was born and raised and lived in the Twin Cities area almost all of my life. What finally got me to leave was the winters and aging. I was tired of fighting the snow and ice on the roads and the sidewalks and I don't like living my life based on the snow and weather reports. I'm able to stay active, even in the Palm Springs heat. One thing I miss is, is Minnesotan's talk to everyone, whether you're waiting for a elevator or waiting in line for anything, we talk to strangers and out here in Cali, not so much. I will always bleed purple, even though the Vikings suck me in every year, just to disappoint at the end of the season.
I live in New Jersey, and if I had the means, I would move to Minnesota. I love the distinct change of seasons. I have seen some recent TH-cam videos of the snow they had out there last winter, some with heavy thunderstorms, etc. Here in NJ, yes, they do have a descent change of seasons here, too, but all too often, what start out as descent snowstorms, change to rain. Snow cover out here is almost never sustained. They say that some of the cons if living in Minnesota are the very cold and snowy winters, which are pros to me. Whatever snow falls in New Jersey varies from winter to winter. There may be some descent snowstorms in some seasons, but last winter, outside of a few flurries, there was no snow here whatsoever. The winter before that there was only one 8 or 9 inch snowfall, that was it. The only con about snow to me is having to drive in it, otherwise I love snow. I also live thunderstorms, which while they do have them in New Jersey, all too often they are hit and miss, and too short lived.
I'm Canadian from Northern Ontario. Minnesota is just an extension of Northern Ontario...I've been to Grand Portage, Superior National Park, International Falls, Baudette...did some canoeing around there...
If you like biking this is a great place. Good amount of the roads have a wide shoulder and there are lots of dedicated paths. Always some route you can take to get around
Thank you for the video. I'm proud to say I've lived in western Minnesota all my life. I been to the Twin Cities a lot . I love the racially diverse of people .
I’ve lived in New York City, currently living in Los Angeles, CA, and am looking to relocate due to high cost of living, I went to visit Austin, TX in June and am planning to visit the Minneapolis/St.Paul, MN area and Reno, NV pretty soon. Minnesota is definitely on my list of options of cities to move to.

I am Norwegian and I am used to winters and the cold. I lived in California for 10 years, but if I ever go back I would definitely go to Minnesota. From your last name I think you are Norwegian descendant as we have the family name Bjerknes as well, and because of Norwegians settling there. Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.
My uncle and his family have been living in Minnesota for about 30 years. That includes my cousins, their spouses and their children. Recently, my dad had been speaking to my oldest cousin on the phone and she mentioned that a company in Minnesota was paying $23/hr and they were hiring. The company ships electronic equipment to their customers. Myself, I've been living in Maine for the last 31 years and was thinking of the idea of moving to Minnesota and applying to this job. I'm used to the winters and the summers. Maine is a lot like Minnesota with the bugs that constantly bother you when you're out in the woods. The thing that makes me not want to go is the idea that Minnesota winters are bitter cold and much colder than that here in Maine. I also would think that since my family lives in Roseau up near the Canadian border, I would miss going to the coast and playing in the ocean during the summers. It's a hard decision and I don't know if I'd want to make the move.
I live in Central Florida we have helicopters and trucks that go around the neighborhood with insecticide that kills mosquitos haven't been bitten ever, grew up in Nebraska got bitten there.
As someone who has been born and raised in AZ, I heard Minnesota is basically the opposite of AZ and I am moving there next summer so this is definitely gonna help me know what to expect.
It's a college town, known as a bit of a party town. They have a cool outdoor ampitheater and the Minnesota river flows through, actually makes a bend in the city, so it's not just farm fields.
@@LivingInMN yeah. For me snow and cold is just beautiful And one plus of the extreme cold is when your covered in blankets and super cozy. I love that feeling. I also love the feeling of when your inside and there’s a loud wind creaking the foundation of the house. That’s happening right now for me. But I can definitely see people not liking that. My grandparents are from down south and they can’t handle anything below 50 degrees
I'm with you, but I also like to go Winter camping, so some people might think I'm nuts😄. I also love a wood fireplace and an actual fire. Combine a cozy blanket and there is something special about that. Many may not agree with us though😊.

I grew up on lake wobegon and wrote a book about it, later on in life I started an extremely boring radio show that plays on the weekend called a prairie home companion....
Is Bloomington close to U of M? I want to live in Minneapolis proper, my wife wants Bloomington. Is there a fair amount of new construction in Bloomington? Thank you.
Bloomington is a nondescript suburb. Not much to it. Minneapolis is one of the great cities of the world. There is not much doubt which one I would choose.
I have lived here for 67 years. Don't even think of moving here ! Unless you want to be inside for 7-8 months when it is cold. More cloudy days than sunny days. High tax's too. I am now retired and am looking for something in Florida. Where they have awesome weather, low tax's, and a great governor !
@@53philp will I suffer if i went out the dorm during this period? I don’t know because I’ve never experienced this coldness as someone from the middle east
Oh come on, Hectorfarm, it toughens you up😄. You have to embrace it like this video th-cam.com/video/kL2G-Tqq440/w-d-xo.html when we went Winter Camping in the BWCA in northern MN.
I grew up in northern Minnesota on Lake Winnibigoshish and the mosquitoes are nasty. 🦟 We have two seasons in northern Minnesota, winter, and bug season, versus in the Twin Cities, we have winter and road construction. The horse and deer flies will chase you and when I was a kid on my bicycle and looking behind, I would see a swarm of flies following me. 🪰 Then if that is not enough wood ticks are everywhere. Also, immature mayfly nymphs which live on the lake bed will emerge from the lake and cover everything. They don't have a mouth at this stage and will die within a day or two. Some places in the state use snowplows to clear their roads of piles of mayflies.
1:28 that’s a saying in Norway😅 that’s why I find Minnesota interesting, all the norwegian americans living there. I assume you are as well, by hearing your surname
Thanks for such a nice video. I visited Minneapolis last June but crime is what surprised me a lot. Although due to work I might need to move to Minneapolis but crime-rate scares me a bit as I lived mostly in Europe.
I'm a 29 year old, teacher from Houston looking for a change. I have been joking about moving to Minnesota but am actually considering it. Would you suggest it?
I have lived in both Houston and Minnesota. There is no comparison. The weather in Minnesota is way better for someone like me, who likes to get his exercise outdorrs. The heat in Houston is unbearable. I am a walker and in Texas dogs and people carrying guns just freaked me out. None of this in Minnesota. When I think of Texas, I think of mass shootings. In minnesota, breaking a window is the crime you get.
@@mandandanmandamayor3511 Theres shootings in Minnesota too. Maybe in rural Minnesota breaking a window is the worst that happens but in the Twin Cities there has been an uptick in violent crime. Its not so bad that I would move out, but it does make you consider where you hang out at certain times of days or what neighbourhoods you wanna live in. However mass shootings are thankfully rare in MN and we dont have any prolific ones like Uvalde, Sandy Hook, Columbine or Parkland. Hopefully it stays that way. I guess you can credit it to the Canadian influence. Our crime is more ordinary.
If you really think mndot does such a great job then I challenge you to come drive the stretch of 169 between Virginia and Hibbing during and right after a snowstorm!
Born and raised in small towns in Minnesota myself and I thought that these cons (aside from the cold) were normal everywhere lol. Are mosquitos and black flies not as bad everywhere else?
I live up near the border by Grand Forks, and before that I lived in the Iron Range in Itasca county. The mosquitoes up here will fly off with your dog and then beat you up just for fun.
Is there a good place for international graduate students to find jobs? Maybe there are more identity issues than other big cities...I don't really know, if there are someone can explain a little bit for me?
at least only 4 mounths of mosquitos instead of allways mosquitos like in Florida ... traffic jam + car dependency is a general problem in USA + Canada
Sunshine is pretty even throughout the state of Minnesota, for the most part, but you’ll typically find warmer weather in the southern portion of the state and about 10 degrees degrees colder up north. Thanks for watching, Lyreb!
I grew up in Miami, and after a few years in Texas I landed in Minnesota in 2017, though I been wanting to live here since 2009-2010. For me, the cold is a PRO. The main reason I moved here is the 4 distinct seasons. I love winter and MN does winter right. Its not SUPER snowy, not like Cleveland or Buffalo, but the snow sticks around so the winter isnt so brown and grey. The cold is dry and not too bad but it IS rough on the skin so invest in lotion. I love the snow, and though we lack mountains we make up for it in lakes that offer activities in all seasons and its not COMPLETELY flat. I grew up in Miami now THAT is flat. We have some hills. St. Paul, Stillwater and Duluth are particularly hilly but so is Minneapolis in areas like Kenwood and Prospect Park. Spring can be a tease but when things bloom it is GORGEOUS. So many flowers. Its a mosaic of pinks, blues, yellows, greens, purples. Summer is awesome. Great for swimming, canoeing, fishing and all kinds of outdoor activities. The State Fair is the perfect way to transition from summer to fall (I actually got engaged at the State Fair in 2019) and the fall is my absolute favourite. The air is crisp and perfect, the leaves are stunning and so many fun activities like apple picking, pumpkin picking. Halloween in MN is like Halloween should feel. Chilly, spooky, autumnal. And then comes winter and theres nothing like a Minnesota White Christmas. I braced subzero temps to go walking and looking at lights in the snow. Though I couldn't feel my fingers after taking too many pics it was worth it lol Also something about the sub-zero temps... they are usually followed by a big warm up into the upper 30s and even 40s which feels amazingly warm. Its not like Fairbanks where it just lingers below zero all winter long. MN Nice is a double edge sword. You get genuine nice and you get surface level nice. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are passive aggressive. Personally, I prefer the bluntness of the East Coast. But the genuinely nice people are great. I have had neighbours offer me a place to stay in times of need, people I barely knew who invited me over to parties cuz they knew I was new in the area, and have made some amazing friends up here. There are jerks everywhere. On the unfortunate side, the Twin Cities, especially Minneapolis, have seen a rise in crime esp violent crime over the last few years. Hopefully it will go down. Its happening all over the US not just us, but be wary of certain neighbourhoods. Use common sense. Unfortunately the neighbourhood I currently live in is night and day compared to how it was in 2019. I no longer feel comfortable walking in my area at night alone and we are looking to move out of the area which is a shame because it is a gorgeous area with great people (Loring Park) But maybe winter had gotten milder since Prince's days cuz we have been getting more riff raff.
@afrahnawarsidd I would pick Minnesota haha. I saw how hot Dallas got this past summer!!! The cold in MN is so much easier to deal with and its prettier. Extreme heat in Texas means dry grass, wilting plants, even risk of fire. Extreme cold in Minnesota is at least a beautiful icy/snowy landscape and so cozy to go inside your warm home
gonna be here for a year in a student exchange program, I am a Swede so i will be ready for the winters and mosquitos i have a question though, will i be crucified for being a bucks fan? i have watched them for years and i even have their jerseys

I lived in Minnesota from 1974 to 1984. I refer to it as the southern most Canadian province in North America. People would derisively refer to the state as the Peoples Republic of Minnesota, because they griped about taxes. What I remember about that is that the quality of education was high. I lived in a smaller city in the Red River Valley part of the state. You got the same good education in small town Minnesota as you would in the cities. Vo-tech education was ubiquitous. The vulnerable got taken care of, in terms of the elderly and the mentally/developmentally disabled. Low tax states like Texas can shoot their mouths off about how better their economy is and how lower their taxes are. And if you’re white living in a good area, you have no reason to gripe. But if you’re not, you’re more often than not on your own. Minnesotans believe in being pragmatic and taking care of each other. And they took their higher taxes and put that funding into improving their education system. Because businesses also want smart people working for them.
I really appreciate this comment as my surgery put me in menopause & TX summers are becoming unbearable. I’m craving freezing cold weather all the time
Absolutely, I've had clients who work at the University of Minnesota in the cancer department. We've got a lot of health care companies in the Twin Cities.

I do! It's way up North by Lake of the Woods. Kind of a crazy story😄
I'm planning to move to twins city Minnesota next winter after graduation.
That’s great, Eugene! Congratulations on graduating!!
Wow, I really hear your Minnesota accent. Love it.
😄 What accent??😉. Thanks for watching, Saucy.
@@LivingInMNlol that's exactly what I always say too. What accent??? 😁
I got college in Minnesota is this good place to select
Yes, of course, we have a lot of great colleges here in MN. Do you have a college in mind?
@@LivingInMNwhat do you think about Metro state university? I’m planning to move by May 2024
I grew up on lake wobegon and wrote a book about it, later on in life I started an extremely boring radio show that plays on the weekend called a prairie home companion....
That "boring radio show" is something special. Thank you!🙏🏼
@@LivingInMN did you ever have to read that novel in school
I already live in MN but I cant feel the fresh air I do live in a small town maybe that's why
Small towns have fresh air too!😄
Is Bloomington close to U of M? I want to live in Minneapolis proper, my wife wants Bloomington. Is there a fair amount of new construction in Bloomington? Thank you.
It's pretty close... About 20-25 minutes depending where in Bloomington. Bloomington is fairly large. However, not a lot of new construction.
Bloomington is a nondescript suburb. Not much to it. Minneapolis is one of the great cities of the world. There is not much doubt which one I would choose.
bloomington does have the mall of america
It sounds wonderful. I would like to live in Minnesota.
It is pretty great. We definitely have some negatives, but overall a wonderful place to live.
I have lived here for 67 years. Don't even think of moving here ! Unless you want to be inside for 7-8 months when it is cold. More cloudy days than sunny days. High tax's too. I am now retired and am looking for something in Florida. Where they have awesome weather, low tax's, and a great governor !
The best is the mesabi iron range!!!
Not to mention we barely get any severe weather
Approximately, how long is the extreme cold duration in twin cities?
Nov. is hit or miss, Dec. thru Mar. are the coldest, Apr. is hit or miss.
@@53philp will I suffer if i went out the dorm during this period?
I don’t know because I’ve never experienced this coldness as someone from the middle east
Any pros are erased by the Minnesota winter.
Oh come on, Hectorfarm, it toughens you up😄. You have to embrace it like this video th-cam.com/video/kL2G-Tqq440/w-d-xo.html when we went Winter Camping in the BWCA in northern MN.
Ex Minnesotan!!!! I lived in Eden prairie 🙌. I left and I never went back lol. I love Massachusetts. But I do go back and visit my family.
Eden Prairie is a very nice community. Glad to hear you're happy with Massachusetts!
@X tone please elaborate.
I don't think Massachusetts is that great.
How well do you think someone from New Jersey could adapt? I’m only 20 but I’m thinking about it for further down the road.
I think you could adapt easily, especially at 20/21.
It's affordable way up north
Lake Winnie is the wooooorst for black flies 😅
1:28 that’s a saying in Norway😅 that’s why I find Minnesota interesting, all the norwegian americans living there. I assume you are as well, by hearing your surname
Thanks for such a nice video. I visited Minneapolis last June but crime is what surprised me a lot. Although due to work I might need to move to Minneapolis but crime-rate scares me a bit as I lived mostly in Europe.
Thanks for watching!!
The crime rate drops off once you get out of Minneapolis/St. Paul. They are the biggest cities. And even there, it's starting to get a little better.
New pro unlocked: Legal Cannabis!
😄. Yes, that is definitely a recent change.
I'm a 29 year old, teacher from Houston looking for a change. I have been joking about moving to Minnesota but am actually considering it. Would you suggest it?
Absolutely, we have a lot to offer! However, it does get a little cold during the winters. 😊
Thanks. Lovely 😊. How about the arts?
Born and raised in small towns in Minnesota myself and I thought that these cons (aside from the cold) were normal everywhere lol. Are mosquitos and black flies not as bad everywhere else?
They aren't as bad in the Twin Cities, because they treat for them.
What towns did you live in?
@@LivingInMN Lived near Shokapee my whole life
I live up near the border by Grand Forks, and before that I lived in the Iron Range in Itasca county. The mosquitoes up here will fly off with your dog and then beat you up just for fun.
Great video! Just don’t forget we DO HAVE a winning Sports Team = The Lynx !! 4 time world champions !
That is very true, thank you!!
Is there a good place for international graduate students to find jobs? Maybe there are more identity issues than other big cities...I don't really know, if there are someone can explain a little bit for me?
This is a excellent video -minnesota is a terrific place to live!!!!!
Thank you, J Chow!! I would agree with you on that. Where do you live?
I love the sparkle snow after a snowstorm
Me too!! Gotta love a big snow storm!
Shoveling snow gets old, especially the wet snows !
at least only 4 mounths of mosquitos instead of allways mosquitos like in Florida ... traffic jam + car dependency is a general problem in USA + Canada
I love the winters though 😢
Minnesota nice is soooo true.
♥️
What place inminnesota has more sunshine
Sunshine is pretty even throughout the state of Minnesota, for the most part, but you’ll typically find warmer weather in the southern portion of the state and about 10 degrees degrees colder up north. Thanks for watching, Lyreb!
I'd say SW Minnesota. More open, not as wooded, drier part of the state. Can get windy, though. Makes lots of wind power.
I'm a loner, so living up northern MN pitchy😁😁👍🐕🐕
Ben Harper twice. Respect.
Ha, yes! He puts on great shows!!
I was born in Cottage Grove and ended up in Norway 🇳🇴 😅 You're name is Norwegian. You can do this same video for Norway. It's all the same.
How come so many somalis in the state 😮
I grew up in Miami, and after a few years in Texas I landed in Minnesota in 2017, though I been wanting to live here since 2009-2010.
Great summary, Badger!! Thank you for adding your experience living in MN as well.
I am from miami. I want to get out of this hot place. Do you think mn would be great choise? Or Dallas tx would be more better option 4:27
@afrahnawarsidd I would pick Minnesota haha. I saw how hot Dallas got this past summer!!! The cold in MN is so much easier to deal with and its prettier. Extreme heat in Texas means dry grass, wilting plants, even risk of fire. Extreme cold in Minnesota is at least a beautiful icy/snowy landscape and so cozy to go inside your warm home
gonna be here for a year in a student exchange program, I am a Swede so i will be ready for the winters and mosquitos
i have a question though, will i be crucified for being a bucks fan? i have watched them for years and i even have their jerseys
Great to hear! You'll get by just fine bring a Bucks fan, but of course we'll still need to give you a little grief. 😉

I'm not sure on that. It depends on what you're looking to do.
Minnesota North Stars...go Stars!
You mean the Dallas Stars😂
You think a Michiganian would adapt to Minnesota’s lifestyle? I don’t see many people comparing the two.
Of course! The weather is somewhat similar. Also the Vikings world be an upgrade from the Lions😊.

Many of the cities in Greater Minnesota treat for mosquitoes. You just don't know that they do.
You're correct with that and it definitely helps!
I live in MN and I can say the pros beat the cons
I agree, Little Penguin!! The pros do beat the cons!
I love the winter and 4 season here in MN! Really good for my menopause, too...🤞
I really appreciate this comment as my surgery put me in menopause & TX summers are becoming unbearable. I’m craving freezing cold weather all the time
Went to college in N. Minnesota 25 years ago. I thought Duluth was nice.
