I live in Eagan and it is the best place I have lived in my life and I have lived all over the USA including TX and FL. I love that there is like 4 parks within a 1/2 miles from my home. If you have a problem with Eagan then you are just a whinner who is never happy. Also I do not know why people whining about taxes. Other state get you in other ways and you do not have nice communities like this either. But even as a child my parent even complain about the taxes back in the 60's and then we moved and found out that overall those taxes were not that high after we found the true cost of living in TX. For example when I moved back here after living for 45 years in other places I had to pay out of state taxes. I was floored how cheap it was. If I had to pay out of state taxes in FL it would be 5 time more then here and then I was paying like $7000.00 for insurance on my home $200k home in FL. Meanwhile a lot of people who complain about MN never moved out of the state and lived in other areas.

I grew up in Shoreview, and HUGE agree with it's number 1 spot. It was a fantastic childhood, and, although certain things have changed, it still seems like a great place to raise kids. We were right between a couple lakes, playgrounds, 5 min walk from the school - I loved it. Had we stayed, we'd have needed to work on the basement - it was a bit prone to flooding, but it was a solid, nice little starter house that I'd have been happy to be raising my family in (if I was still there).

St. Louis Park and Golden Valley need to be recognized for having very affordable housing and great schools. Homes do not go on sale very often as they are already owned and people do not like to leave these areas

If you want to keep the commute down to 20 mins or 15mins to the Minneapolis center, want to have a little vibe of a suburb, ideally with good schools for young kids....am I asking for too much? I love those western lake regions like Minnetonka, but the only down side is the commute.

I'd really have to know considerably more about your situation, goals, desires, lifestyle, budget, financials, which is a conversation to be had over the phone or in person. I'm not trying to dodge the question. The Twin Cities has several dozen great areas so I want to give you the right options specific for you. You can also see a TON of city/neighborhood tour videos on the playlist on my channel, if you aren't ready to chat right now.

That’s where I live and I’m shocked it’s not higher on the list.
This guy claiming places like Mendota heights and Eagan are close to the city meanwhile I can get downtown in 5 minutes.
In addition, Shoreview and mounds view are on the list while new Brighton is the same school district, cheaper, closer to the city, and actually has some amount of unique culture in comparison.
Mounds View as a city itself is dreadful. Shoreview however is very nice.

In addition, there is no suburb with a better location. None.
Easy access to 35W , 35E, 694 , 100 , 10 , 610 , university , central, lexington, 280, and easily (along with Roseville) the best suburb to get to both of the major cities downtowns easily

Orono, Minnesota we have one of the best school districts in the country. We have more Lakeshore on Lake Minnetonka than any city on the lake and we have a gorgeous park including a revamp golf course. Orono was a great place to raise a family. It’s very safe of living is high, but if you have the money Orono is worth the price.

    • @LivinginMinnesota

That's actually one of the questions I'm not legally allowed to answer, unfortunately. I encourage folks to search up the area's crime statistics (usually found on the police departments' website) to determine if a neighborhood feels safe to you!
