    Today let's make squash rice cake (Hobaktteok), using a small ceramic bowl or cup. I'm so excited to release this recipe because you can make fluffy rice cake and sweet, tangy squash jam easily.

    we call this puttu in south of india. instead of squash we use jaggery and coconut☺

      I Assam we call it bhapot diya pitha, we also stuff with coconut or sesame and jaggery

    There's something really similar to this in Singapore, it's called the kueh tutu. It's one of my favourite traditional snacks. It uses ground peanuts or shredded coconut instead of squash, the shape is round and flat. We also place a piece of panda leaf on each kueh tutu, so that when it steams, it leaves a mild pandan fragrance in the rice flour.

    In Indonesia is look a like Kue Putu Bambu but have different shape.. The inside of the kue putu bambu is brown sugar and the color is green because using screwpine leaf... after steam it put some grated coconut on top of the kue putu bambu.. ^^ *FYI*

    The butter nut squash seeds are really good they are much like pumpkin seeds I like to roast them in the oven with oil or butter and some salt...this would make a nice garnish!Love this recipe I cannot wait to try it !

    As am a Sri Lankan I though that this is a thing, I will really miss to make. But Maangchi this make me really surprised. Itz very easy to make. My mom really don't like to eat other traditional meals. But after I make your foods and say " Amma this is from Maangchi " she tries that meals. And saying that you may go to her 😅😅😅

    Hi Maangchi .You have inspired me to start trying Korean cooking.I am an Indian and belong to Chennai.We make a similar dish with rice flour and coconut called “Puttu”. We have separate cylindrical steamers for making this dish.Love your enthusiasm and genuineness.

    You can make Malaysian "Putu Piring" in a cup like this too :P quite similar..
    instead of a squash, use "gula melaka" yummyyyy
    instead of lemon juice, use "pandan leave juice"
    and then serve with grated coconut

    Don't mean to be a know-it-all but I always thought the lemons have to be the other way around in these squeezers? So that the skin goes in the mold and the squeezy part goes in the lemon flesh :) :)

    hi maangchi,we're in indonesia have similar recipe using rice flour. it's called "Putu". for the filling we use 'aren' sugar or 'gula merah' in indonesian language. its soft and sweet with melted 'aren' sugar.come in indonesia we'll cooking together! LOL :))

    Everytime I see you eat it reminds me of my cousins wife, he was stationed in Korea in the 70's and married her...I was young still but I remember Everytime she would make something to eat she could eat it right out of the pot ...steam would be rolling off of noodles and she would eat it no problem...I always thought that was amazing but now I'm wondering How can you eat everything so hot, not seasoning, temperature wise???? Love these videos though 😁

    You can make super easy preserved lemons with juiced lemon halves with the peel on, you just put one in a jar then cover in salt then stack another one on top and repeat.
    My mum tried a bit of one and confirmed that they tasted like the ones she got before store bought, i wasn't too confident with this method at first but with that I now do it all the time, and just putting it in any dish just chopped/diced whole thing is really nice (you don't need too much though, because it is very salty)

    So I tried this recipe. Is there a difference between rice flower and rice powder? I used rice powder, and when i mixed in the wet ingredients and air mixed it with my hand, it felt really wet and didnt seem dry looking like yours. Was I doing something wrong? or was it the ingredients I used?
    Also, after I steamed it, it did turn out fluffy, and it tasted good. Love the recipe!

    first of all thank you for all your lovely recipes maangachi I love all your lovely recipes but dear I'm from india Maharashtra here some things are not available so normally people love to have salad...     A few years ago, I made your recipe, 'baekseolgi', but I didn't have any rice flour - so I made my own. =:o I steamed it for hours, and hours, but . . . not good. Some things, it seems, can't be interchanged. I'll just have to stick to drooling . . .
