    I wish I’d seen this sooner. During training we were using curved and straights to make the cuts which is leaving them very choppy and blending afterwards doesn’t seem to get this sort of smooth finish. Same for the ears. Also, the holds you’ve got on the face look a lot better than trying to cross over your hand for the off side. Often feels like I’m just guessing and when you’re using scissors on a dogs face, that’s the last feeling you want!

      The more you do it the better and the easier grooming will be, I promise. Try and have a process and do the same thing every time you groom. An example is for the face.
      1. Scissor our inner corner and then of the eyes
      2. Cut the fringe
      3. Scissor from the muzzle to the opening of the ear canal.
      4. Scissor the top of the skull.
      5. Then blend, and try and use your blenders going with the direction of the coat growth.
      I hope this helps✂️✂️✂️

    Love watching your videos.
    I always got taught that anything with any kind of drop in the coat to never comb up as when it falls in its natural position it will look messy. Then I see videos and groomers are always combing up. Always confuses me on how I'm.suppose to scissor then! This is a fab video x

      Hi Layla, thank you. yes, if you are trimming areas that you would like to fall(feet,muzzle) I will trim downwards and not comb up. I prefer to comb up and down. I like to comb up to check if I have any long hairs popping out, to make sure my hair cut is even. I hope this answers your question ❤️

      The results were very good, did manage to get a nice pair of dog clippers with a good review on them, cut Poppy Adventure Dog over two days with number 2 cut, lots of notts, hence the two days! Not perfect for the first attempt, but looks not bad as far as I can see! So thanks again.

    I thought thinning scissors had serrations on both sides? Instead of buying both blenders and thinners can i get away with buying only one, and if so which one of the two is a better all round work horse? Thanks

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, they both preform differently. If you are wanting them for the body and general shipping , I would buying the blenders. But if you are wanting them to do eyes and small areas buy the thinners. I hope this helps✂️✂️

    Your videos are super informative and detailed, I have learnt so much and have had a successful tidy up and scissor trim over the weekend on my cavoodle. Thanks so much Melanie!
    Just wanted to get your advice on which clipper would be best for my 5kg cavoodle, for full body trims, pads and sanitary areas.
    There are 3 I’ve found through research and based on your videos:
    1. Artero Premium 2 speed clipper
    2. Oster PRO3000i Cordless clipper (steel snap on combs)
    3. Wahl Professional Creativa - 5 in 1: do I need to purchase separate steel snap on combs?
    I recall you mentioning steel snap on combs are better than plastic ones?
    Many thanks!

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen, that’s so great you were able to trim your cavoodle 💗 the artero and the oster clippers are definitely more powerful than the Wahl creativa. If you buy the artero or the oster you will need to buy blades. aAd because they have more power it will make grooming a lot easy and faster. I probably use the oster ones more as they are cordless. But the corded ones have the same power and maybe a little cheaper. Other corded clippers I like are the Wahl 2 speed clipper. And other cordless clippers I like are Andis Pulse ZR II 5-Speed Cordless Clippers. I hope this helps💓

      @@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials thanks so much for your prompt response, much appreciated!
      So with either the Oster or Andis Pulse ZR II 5 speed, I will need to purchase blades? And which blades would I need to purchase for a cavoodle please? Will I also need to get the snap on combs? Many thanks!

    Honey is a sweet, relaxed client. Beautiful work, Melanie! Our Finn is 3/4 poodle and 1/4 King Charles Cavalier, so his coat is much more curly and he is not quiet as calm as this sweet girl. But I would love to groom him myself someday, and your video is quite helpful.

      Hello, I will only brush knots out when the dog is comfortable, if the dog is uncomfortable ( moving a lot, crying, bitting) then I will clip the entire dog or small areas underarm, behind the ears. I always put the dogs happiness before how the dog looks. and also I like the dogs I groom to have a positive experience when being groomed and enjoy the experience. I hope this helps ❤️

    hi Melanie, thanks for this its a great help :) .. quick question i hope you don't mind, do you think we really need curved scissors for home trimming cavoodles or would we be best just grabbing a good pair of straights and thinners? :) .. cheers ,, thanks again.. Matt

      Its up to you, I go between straights and curved. It depends what you are more comfortable with. I mostly use straights as I find it easier to create a round curved shape.
      I will attach some links for you. I would definitely have thinners to help with blending the coat. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anymore help.
