Puyo is easily a hard hitter system in the game while tetris is a poke and pressure technical type of gameplay. Suisei hasn't played against puyo that much so she's new to the strategy.

perhaps it was obvious who was going to win but it was still a fun watch. i’m personally not a fan of holding people out of a tournament because they are too good at the game, that’s what a tournament is for, showing off who has the top skills(for instance Vpsychyo, almost didn’t let Selen play because she was considered to strong at first). i get that it can be sorta frustrating though when you know only one or two opponents really have a shot at winning and they will probably always be the only ones. at the end of the day as long as everyone is having fun it’s all good in the neighborhood 👍🏻 ✨

From what I've read in comments, tetris players (or maybe just Suisei in the exhibition match) were forbidden from using 4-wide wells, which is apparently the strongest strategy against Puyopuyo players... possibly to an overpowered extent.
@@hurkyl1560 not forbidden but is 4wide works not that good against puyo (unless you are pro tetris player). To beat puyo using tetris you need to know how puyo works first. For tetris, every line is sent after the clear example T-spin, tetris and the last one ren. For puyo, the line will only be send after the chain is done. Lets say example tetris vs tetris, when you make a tetris it will send a 4line to opponent meanwhile if opponent also make a tetris after you send it, the attack will be blocked and there will be no line form below tetris. But in puyo cases, if puyo player started the chain effect example it reached 4combo but it still going, even if the tetris player send the line to them now it wont start to block. Which mean when puyo started to chain combo, for tetris you need to have around 8ren ready to block all the attacks. If not doing so, after that when you are solving the attack blocks from puyo the opponent already started to build another chain which will lead to a dead end (tetris busy solving while puyo is attacking) best way to beat puyo is constantly T-spin and tetris to disturb puyo from building their combo.
She trained a lot. Apparently she thought against the strongest AI on PPT several times to get used to highspeed trash hitting her puyopuyo stacks. That's how she was able to win 5-1 vs Suisei by putting her trigger higher up than usual. to avoid the first trash attacks from burying it.
Marine even beat Suisei quite a few times during training. Though Suisei also beat her a few times. I say fairly even though Marine edged it. Marine is Hololive's puyo master at this point.
When they scrimmed evenly, without weird rules and stuff, Marine was pretty clearly the better player when she played puyo, whether Suisei played Tetris or Puyo. Although I think Suisei isn't very experienced in playing vs Puyo.

I don't know if anyone is going to see this comment, but I read a lot comments that seem to have the wrong idea about Puyo Puyo itself and Puyo Puyo vs Tetris, the matchup. I've played a lot of Puyo Puyo, but I'm certainly not the best or anything. I just want to give a few facts from the perspective of a Puyo Puyo player and you can think about them yourself. Top level competitive Puyo Puyo between two great players maxes out at 17 chains. Those are extremely rare. As in maybe once per few months worth of matches. 15-16 however is pretty common. GTR is the most popular way (but not the only way) to play against a Puyo Puyo opponent. It's very good. However, it isn't particularly good against Tetris because a good Tetris player will quickly block off access to it. And if you can't get to it, it's useless. It's better to just build vertically rather than stretch your chain out like GTR does. Funnily enough, that could mean stairs is better than GTR against good Tetris players. 4 wide, when done properly/well, is a very good counter for Puyo Puyo players. Especially ones that can't make at least a 12 chain consistently. With it, you can tank Puyo Puyo's damage and then counterattack. Tetris itself is also a great counter for Puyo Puyo players. Puyo Puyo is about speed, efficiency, and flexibility. Quick Tetris attacks make both speed and efficiency a nightmare for Puyo Puyo players. Puyo Puyo players get interrupted for a few seconds every single time they take damage. Tetris gets interrupted for milliseconds. Puyo Puyo attacks take a long time to resolve and Tetris can defend themselves against a Puyo Puyo attack as it's going off. Puyo Puyo players can't defend against Tetris attacks until they're launched. And they launch whenever the Tetris player wants it to (after the drop that ends their combo). Tetris is faster than Puyo Puyo. It also has slower gravity. That means they can attack faster and then wait as long as they want for a Puyo Puyo player to attack so they can defend against it. Tetris garbage is easier to downstack than Puyo Puyo garbage and deals damage. Puyo Puyo garbage adds no extra damage and can completely disrupt a player's current setup. Tetris players not only have predictable pieces due to the 7bag system, but also get to see the next 5 pieces they're going to get and plan accordingly. Puyo Puyo players can only see two pieces ahead and have to rely on RNG in many situations to get the pieces they want. They could have a great setup that tanks damage and lose anyway because RNG didn't give them the blue they needed in time. At lower levels, Tetris is too slow to stop a Puyo Puyo player and also too slow to defend against their big attacks. The faster and better a Tetris player becomes, the harder it is for a Puyo Puyo player to keep up. And Tetris players always get faster.

I don't really know these games but I watched the tournament. (Spoilers follow.) Isn't the Puyo attacks (or whatever they're called) way too strong? Like all you have to do is get a handful of combos, which Marine can do very easily, and the game is practically over. Like I thought Okayu was way better at Tetris than Fubuki was at Puyo, but Fubuki destroyed her. Marine easily enough won against Suisei, even though Suisei was playing Tetris at lightning speed. It just feels like Puyo is way overpowered, and whoever is good enough at it will win against a Tetris player, no matter how good they are.
At high levels, Tetris players tend to overwhelm the Puyo players with sheer speed, with the garbage Puyos interrupting whatever big chains the Puyo players want to pull off right away. Especially if the Tetris player is good at perfect clear open setups, DT cannon setups, and 4wide. That's why "The Tetris player is at a slight disadvantage" is a big meme in the PPT community, because the Tetris skill ceiling outdoes what Puyo players can do. All the top players for versus mode in PPT1 and 2 are all Tetris players.
