Classic Frame British White Cattle

Curious and friendly smaller classic frame British White cattle herd in Southeast Texas. I was trying to shoot some footage of the young calves, but first my Mazey, #50, stuck her head in the camera briefly to see what was up; but then I was very surprised when Nova, a three year old cow that so far has never shown herself to be so curious, just wouldn't leave her close inspection of the camera alone for quite a little 'cow' while :).

"Classic???" The "classic" British White was a dual purpose animal. These specimens are incredibly beefy. How much milk are you getting from them? Right. The breed has been turned into a beef type. While this may have saved it from extinction, something has been lost forever.

I am not a vegetarian but I can't help but be sad that these gentle animals are being bred for death. I can't imagine what it must feel like for a rancher to load the animals that have considered him as a friend onto trucks, knowing they are bound for slaughter. It has to feel like betrayal.

Every living thing on the planet dies eventually. Mankind raising cattle for beef is no different morally from lions hunting antelope or Cape Buffalo for meat.
