- Eva and David have a complicated mother-son relationship. They try to reach each other but do not quite know how. One problem is the language barrier, as David is deaf and Eva is not very good at sign language. After moving back to her country of birth, Eva comes to Sweden on a short visit, where she discovers what so many parents do throughout the lives of their offspring - your children never cease to surprise you.
DISTANCES (BORTOM) is a short film directed by Valentina Chamorro and forms part of the compilation THE SWEDISH BOYS available to stream on Amazon.

This is an excellent lovely film allowing viewers a peak into the family lives of deaf persons. The ending left me wanting to see some resolution between mother & son and I felt that would happen. Nice craftsmanship in filmmaking I was completely drawn into your interesting story! Cheers!👍
Sad that his mother was so distanced and never learned to sign. Something is more to the story of her life, glad he is stable and in a nice relationship, mom didn't have a problem with his partner.
What an interesting little slice of life. The production values were quite good for a short, and the acting was really moving. And casting-wise, David and Eva really looked like they could be mother and son. I'd love to see more of their story.
We are SO fortunate to be able to hear different languages ! Subtitles are a wonderful thing. If dubbed, we would not hear the actors' voices !!!!!!!!

It feels like unfinished business. Did mother and son indeed drifted apart or did they reconcile? Plus a little awkward son didn't 'tell' his mum he was living with someone while he knew she was staying at his place for a week. What was the point of this short film? It didn't made any sense to me. Other than that his relationship with his boyfriend seems genuine and warm. Which is a pleasant thing. Oh and please, leave religion out of this. Wars have and are still fought about religion.

Some thoughts, he probably didnt mention it to her since it seems like she has been flaky his whole life with her not being present very much. I don’t see how it would matter him mentioning it. I would gather that their relationship will probably continue to be the same. She seems happy for him based on how she’s looking at him and I’m sure to an extent she feels sad that he’s right about leaving. But she will most likely leave again like he said but at least she knows now that he has someone in his life looking out for him. Idk
Life itself doesn't require expkanation. Each of us understands it in own way. The same is applied to movies
