  • The Baltimore & Ohio "Docksider" is now available from Machine Rail.
Built by Baldwin for the B&O Railroad was the 0-4-0 ST dubbed the 'C16' mainly for waterside duties in and around the city of Baltimore hauling freight cars to and from local piers.
    Let's have a look.

Nos. 96 and 99 were converted to coal burners with tenders added and saddle tanks removed. Both served the Philadelphia docks. Nos. 97 and 98 kept their original configuration with "Baltimore & Ohio" spelled out on the saddle tank.

Some of these received tenders in later years, which allowed them to work out on the mainline.

@@DynamicDuo795 That’s what my post said. Specifically, nos. 96 and 99 were converted. Saddle tanks removed, coal used as fuel instead of oil, and tenders added. As far as working on the mainline, these 0-4-0 switchers would have seen very limited duty, like any other small switchers.

Wow! Thanks again for showing off my route! Work is slow going to the next extension to Dover. As I work west I’m also reworking some of the easternmost points. Hoboken has been very complicated to model, so there’s some bugs and lack of scenery. Its lots of fun building it and lots of fun watching you run on it!

I mentioned this to Sean a while back on Twitch. As I found the route quite enjoyable. So, thanks for such a good route.

This is actually one of my favorite locomotives. They're so compact, and yet they look so brutish.
These engines were pretty well equipped to hold their own, in a mechanical sense. They had those chains in case of a coupler failure, they actually had extra tall coupler knuckles to ensure a secure connection on uneven and bumpy track, toolkits and materials to fix any commonly broken parts... It really captures the ruggedness of the Marysville Industrial Spur. Now we just need someone to build that, so these babies will be right at home!

I love the modeling, texturing and sounds on these things, I just really wish there was more to the operational aspect of these things. I'm a massive steam nerd, so obviously the first thing I look at is the features. But man do I always wish these loco's had things like Scripted steam chest and injectors you have to prime. I get why they don't though, that stuff is the difference between 3 to 8 months in-between releases.

Felt that as a fellow steam nerd. Still learning, but I too look for features.

Modelling and textures are terrific, but the engine doesn't seem to like sharp radii, which is the main reason for the C-16 to begin with. It will stall and bounce backwards on curves that the GE 44 tonner will negotiate easily. Try it on the tight turns on the Test Track. Otherwise, it's gorgeous. Nice video, too, many thanks.

I love it! I've waited years to see some proper switchers for Railworks. Britkits was alright for a time, but they have not aged well at all. Switchers typically get overlooked in both real world and virtual modeling, so its stinking awesome to see a pro model done here. May have to contact them about doing up some more switchers, if my finances allow. 😉 I smell some more southern railroading items to come if that comes to pass.

Nice 0-4-0, it is said by Model Railroaders that everyone born in the 70's had a family member that had one of these in Ho and I have to agree as everyone I meet that talks Railroading that I come across either shows a picture or video of their dads or uncles' layout with one on it. Steamtown USA located in Scranton PA, has two 0-4-0T locomotives. I disagree with the whistle sound as every 0-4-0 I've ever seen in person Live active has a higher pitch sound Not a deep foghorn sound, it does make sense to have a high pitch whistle when you think about it, compared to a deep foghorn sound. Remaining Baltimore were C-16 numbers 97 and 98. They worked at Mount Clare Yard by day and the Pratt Street line by night until their retirement in May, 1951. As these Locomotives only costed $25 in 1951 which was a Lot of money at the time. By then renumbered 897 and 898, B&O shopped and cleaned them up for sale, but there were no buyers. They were cut up for scrap at Mount Clare. As for the Lower front Light was used for dock street running as railroading theory believed road vehicles wouldn't see the upper Main headlight so the main headlight would be turned off and the Lower Street view light would be used given it was eye level to automobiles when street running.

So there’s an issue with the model that I’ve seen the eccentric rod on the fireman’s side is too long and clips into part of the frame, I’m honestly kinda surprised you didn’t notice that.

i'm a little confused about DLC for train sim classic. If it doesn't appear on the steam store as DLC for TSC, then is it still official and quality content?
