    F-104. One of the coolest planes ever. Basically a J-79 engine with small wings and a seat attached to it.

      I don't care if it was a damn deathtrap, it's still awesome.

    Dear Mr Scale,
    Highlighting the challenges of both resin and PE was very useful! The hairspray tip is something I will try.
    The cockpit finish is at an altogether different level.
    Regards,
    Z

    Amazing build-up of the cockpit, turned out great! Great skill and always some useful tips. 👍 As for the aircraft itself, more engine than plane! Few redeeming qualities and a horrible history of reliability issues and a safety record that was abysmal and led to the death of far too many pilots! The aircraft had a very narrow operations envelope and never really caught on.

    Hello Rahmi! The Starfighter is as spectacular as its name. 🙂
    The two seater is even more so because it's not so common...
    I am looking forward to your next video!
    (Maybe you have chosen a nice camouflage scheme too. 🙂)

      Hi Radu! I not big fan of this aircraft but indeed it's an interesting jet aircraft. I will finish it in Italian markings. That Italian light grey is an amazing subject for post-shade weathering technique.

      You are right, operationally the Starfighter was not very useful and also not an easy aircraft to fly.

    What a wistful delight to watch! Is the Lockheed TF-104 Starfighter USAF Supersonic Fighter-Interceptor a two-seat trainer?

    • @Scaleaton
      @Scaleaton  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the TF-104G is an aircraft designed as a trainer using the F-104G platform, but still with combat capabilities. And NATO countries have used it for this purpose for a while.

    • @randytaylor1258
      @randytaylor1258 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The USAF retired the F-104 at the C variant. The G was built for NATO and used a plumbed wing and Phantom II engine.

    • @DavidRLentz
      @DavidRLentz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randytaylor1258 thanks. Is the G for Germany?

    • @philp8872
      @philp8872 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidRLentz Yes the "G" initialy stood for Germany, as it became clear that Germany was in urgent need for it and became the largest user, but was used by a bunch of other Nato countries as well. The two-seaters retained combat capability but were used merely for training, which becomes obvious when you look at the numbers delivered. The intented front line fighter / fighter-bomber was always the single seater.
      You can easily look up quite basic information as this one on wikipedia.

    • @philp8872
      @philp8872 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randytaylor1258 All F-104s used some iteration of the General Electric J79 engine (with the exception of the XF-104 prototypes when the J79 wasn´t ready). CF-104s used a licenced copy built by Orenda in Canada.
      104A and B used the dash 3; C, D and F used the dash 7; G used the dash 11.
      With the exception of the british RR Spey powered Phantom IIs, all Phantom IIs also used some iteration of the General Electric J79.
      The dash 8 in the F-4Bs and the dash 10, 15 and 17 in the subsequent variants being substantialy more powerful than the dash 11 used in the (T)F-104G.
      Only the late Italian F-104S used something similar powerful with the dash 19.
      So yes, the Starfighters and the Phantoms used the same basic engine (with very few exceptions), but they were different subvariants!
      And it´s not like your comment may imply that they took the engine from the F-4, threw it into the (T)F-104G, and getting something completly different, engine-wise, than the F-104A/B/C/D/F were!
      Edit: typo in one of the dash numbers
