My habit, which I've only taken on in the last 2 years, imparted to me by my mother-in-law: wash the dishes as I am cooking. No, it's not always possible, depending on what you're cooking, but even just a minute here and there of dish washing while something simmers makes a HUGE difference!
Yes, please! I always try to teach my kids different ways to be organized and productive. I tell them to do their beds before entering in the bathroom -well, if they don't have any needs to hold, lol 😁
Yes, please! I love watching them with my 9 year old! She even prepared her own 'All Purpose Cleaner and microfiber cloth' kit. One day, she folded all the clothes in her drawers (with your method) while watching you and Chad in a "folding competion" haha! Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such a fun and helpful way. "Thanks so much for sharing and we'll see you next time!" Haha! ;-)
one of my family's stay clean habits are while we are watching TV on every commercial you get up and you clean it or straighten up whatever you can as fast as you can before the show comes on and make it a race and a really fun game for the kids and by the end of the program everything is nice and neat. love the pillow Case's I own the matching shower curtain.
You have helped me so much. I'm not a very clean person and I just bought a foreclosed home. I've now successfully cleaned my hardwoods and bathrooms, now on to the kitchen. Ty so much for this and all the others.
Funny story. I always cleaned my bathroom floor on my hands and knees to get into the nooks and crannies and wipe off baseboards. I actually cleaned all my floors that were not carpeted that way. So one day I told my teenage daughter she needed to clean her bathroom floor. She said I hate cleaning the floor on my hands and knees. I said use the mop. She said "we have a mop?"
I would like to share one of my cleaning habits. When I am cooking, I wash the dishes that I finished using while I am still cooking. I don't waste time and water by filling my sink up with water I just use soap and running hot water I dry and put them away at the same time. So when it's time to sit down and eat... all the dishes I used to cook with are now finished. The only thing I have left to wash are the plates, cups, and silverware. This helps my kitchen to stay clean.
Because of my chronic fatigue, I can only really dedicate an entire day to cleaning my home once in a blue moon. For the majority of the days that I don't have the energy to do so much, I try to make it a point to tidy in a small way every time I stand and walk around my apartment. So on the way to the bathroom, I might grab some candy wrappers from the coffee table and throw them away, or take the salt shaker back to the kitchen, or take the inevitable stray shirt or socks to the hamper.
I have a set routine for almost everything at home. I always clean the counters and hob before I go to bed. All dishes are done after a meal and the garbage is thrown out every two days. Towels are changed every 2-3 days too. Every time I throw something in the hamper I check if I have enough for a load. The bed linen gets changed on Sunday morning and washed straight away. Every time I go the bathroom I check if everything is in order, clean and tidy, same with the kitchen. :) Regarding shoes, jackets and so on, I am lucky enough to live in a flat with a small storage. We cannot leave out shoes and stuff outside the storage because it's simply too narrow. I always change and organise my clothes after I get back and my room does feel a bit more organised! :) I do believe CMS has helped me a lot in getting more organised and I thank you a bunch for that! Excited for the cloths!!!
Game changer for me was from Gretchen Rubin -- the 1 minute rule. Anything that takes less than a minute, just do! I set a timer to 10 minutes and do anything I see around the house that will take me less than a minute to do. Fold a throw blanket. Wipe the counters down. File stray papers. Etc. Going to echo you and many other commenters: making the bed every day makes a huge difference. My morning routine is make coffee, feed cats, clean litter box, wash my face/brush my teeth, and the make the bed. Then it feels like I can start my day.
one of my cleaning habits is taking the trash to work every morning now I do have a truck so this might not work for everyone but most of us do have a big dumpster at work and taking that one bag or so of trash to work in the morning has helped me with clutter
Love watching your videos...short and to the point. Since I replaced my old Dyson with the V6 motor head stick vac, it's so easy to now vacuum every day. It's so light and does a super job. The trick is to clean smart, not harder. Get the best equipment for the job! Thank you for sharing all your great tips with us.
CONSUMER REPORTS magazine says to scrape off your dishes pre-dishwasher as opposed to rinsing them. Scraping instead of rinsing does not waste water, as the dishwasher rinses the plates anyway. Also, keep in mind that we are headed for a water shortage so the sooner we get in the habit of conserving H2O, the better.
I always love your videos! So many great tips as always, but I was surprised to see that you put clothes that have already been worn back into your drawers of clean clothes. I don't like to mix my dirty/previously worn clothes with my clean clothes so have a seperate area (clothes rack) dedicated to previously worn (but not yet ready for the wash basket) clothes. That way I can keep better track of how many times garments have been worn so after a few wears I know its about time the garments were washed. I also use this same clothes rack to organise my outfit for the following day.
one of my many stay clean habits these days is simply wiping down my kitchen counters like you said. also making sure dishes don't pile up in my sink. makes my kitchen feel more cleaner. also keeping stuff off the floor, i cannot function correctly if there is stuff on my floor, whether it's trash or something out of place.
Yes please. My stay clean habits, at least one tiny habit I am trying to get my family to follow is taking off their shoes when they come into the door from outside to keep dirt and messes from getting onto the kitchen or other floors in the home. One stay clean habit from your video I would like to try is after my family and I take our shoes off, we carry them to our room and put them to the shoe mat by our front door or put them away immediately in their proper home. In the shoe rack or holder in the bedroom closets.
I make my bed every single day; Gets me motivated to clean the rest of the house as well. Once I am caught up, I reward myself with a cup of coffee while I watch one of my favorite TV shows. I have always put my clothes away once I got home! I always have me and my family take off our shoes once we enter the house. I will clean the bottom of each pair with a disinfecting wipe first and then put them away in the shoe closet! I love that Tony Robbins quote!
I pretty much follow the same things you mentioned. I always give my kitchen a quick once over just before bed. It makes me happy in the morning. My biggest "problem" is dog hair from 3 dogs, one of which sheds horribly. After i purchased the Dyson Cordless, it is much easier to vacuum my entry way and the hardwood in my living room (which is raised up 3 steps - quad level home) and shows every bit of dog hair. I vacuum that area a couple times a day, with just a quick go over, and it makes me happier
Jackie Watson Fitness My mom was very clean. We had pets, but they were always chosen because they didn't shed. You can find really nice dog breeds that don't shed.
@@ideoformsun5806 Yes, you can. But that doesn't help with the dog hair now, and I would never get rid of my dogs as I love them and they are part of my family. That just means I have to sweep a LOT, LOL
My husband used to work straight midnights so I never made the bed. Now that he is off that shift I started making the bed everyday. It takes maybe a minute of my time and every time I walk in my room I have a sense of satisfaction because even if the room isn't perfect, a made bed still makes the room look neat.
I am working on 'de-messing' our home (just organizing stuff, no Pinterest Perfect crazyness here) and notice that the 'a place for everything'- part truely is key! I found that most of our clutter is 'homeless' stuff, that ended up in piles (mostly on my desk). Only after mindfully DEDICATING a place for something I can now actually PUT it there, and FIND it again; LOVE IT! So my goal is to no longer accept the thought "don't know where to put it (so let me just put it on top of this pile)".
I don't get a fresh glass every time I get a drink (water, soda, tea) I rinse and place it in the door of the fridge until I want something else to drink. Keeps me from having to wash a lot of glasses every day and the glass is chilled for the next beverage. Same with snack bowls, rinse or wipe them out and sit them in the fridge for later.
These are great. My stay clean habit is making the places that things belong as close as possible to where they would naturally fall. If something is regularly not getting put away, it often means I don't have the right system in place so I try something else.
After having to help an aging grandparent with increasing paper clutter, I got her on the "No Mail" List and the "No Call" List for our area. This stops junk mail from coming in the house in the first place. Most of it. I then cancelled catalogs, and called the number on any flyers that still got through. And unsubscribed from any mailing lists we didn't need to be on. Every day, when I get my mail, I take everything out of the envelopes right away, and put the envelopes and trash mail into recycling right away. Even if I can't look at it, it makes the pile smaller and less intimidating when I do my "Tuesday: paper and phone call day." I do Tuesday, because when you call office people, they are crabby on Mondays, and if you wait until Friday, you never can get through. I wait until 9 a.m. To give them time to get their coffee, open their mail and settle in. I use decorative hooks to hold my keys, which have a nice metal key chain to hang them up near my exit door. I also hang my purse on a hook, and my hat. In the stairwell to my basement, which is next to our exit door, we have hooks for jackets and hoodies on the wall all down the steps. Umbrellas get hung up there, too. As soon as we come in the door, everything gets hung up off the floor, off the furniture. We have three members of our home with ADD, so it's important to keep things easy, and in sight where it is easy for them to find these things. They can't/won't do hangars; it's too fussy and they get frustrated. We have a decorative hook behind every bedroom door. Each family member has their own towel color, and they hang their own towel on the back of their door to dry. This keeps them off the bathroom floor. For the lighter uses, I use the command release hooks, which come off easily when you are ready to remove them so they don't damage any surfaces.
Making the bed first thing is one that I try and do every day, it makes me feel good and automatically makes my room look tidier. Making sure the kitchen benches are wiped down at night is a great idea!
I do all of these and they really do work...I'm a recovering slob and each of these really do make for a cleaner home and it takes less time to clean on clean up days.
making the bed looks nice. But i read an article about it: it is better to leave your bed unmade for a couple of hours because of the moisture in the bed linen. Over the night you sweat so it is better to ventilate them for some time (and change them about every 2 weeks... well i don't change them that often as well so far, but i just moved so i will give it a try!)
I have a dog and one of my habits for keeping a clean home is keeping the swiffer ready with a clean dry cloth in the cleaning closet. Every day, after the family goes upstairs to get ready for bed, the last thing I do is grab the swiffer and quickly run it under the kitchen table where the dog hangs out. It picks up most of the dog hair and makes it a heck of a lot easier when I do my whole floor routine on the weekends. Also, I leave my clorox wipes on the kitchen counter. I'm in the habit of wiping down the counter with a wipe right after a cook something. Dirty counter tops are my pet peeve.
I definitely try to make my bed every morning. I have loved this habit. My husband and I have also been trying hard to do dishes by hand right after meals. We both hate the chore and since our dishwasher broke this week we have committed to hand washing until we can prove to ourselves that we can consistently clean and put away dishes. :) It may sound funny but since we both procrastinate that chore we are trying to be more strict. Thanks for the tips!
Good for your marriage too. Working together gives you a chance to talk, laugh, kid around. Nothing worse for a marriage than dividing up all the chores and duties and never seeing each other or working together.
This video is what I was taught as a child. I'm glad to see that We are going to back to the old time way of cleaning. As a community we would all make sure that our community stayed clean. #collectiveeffacacy. I know that I went wayyyy left, but you get my point
I made a point in my life that "nothing should be on the floor". and "everything have a home" concept. So that my room is looking clean all the time and is easy to clean.
I am doing as much as I can the fly lady methods! So gar so good... Shinning my sink every night before going to bed, please make more videos on this subject. Merci!
I make my bed every day but Friday, when I leave the sheets pulled back. I change my bed on Saturday, and that gives my bed the opportunity to air out. Also, love "Floordrobe." lol
I make my bed everyday. It definitely helps me feel like things are put together. But ah! The entry way is a problem for me. Shoes everywhere and no closet near by to put them away in. I think I'm just going to invest in a shoe rack to at least make it look more organized. Thanks for this video to get me motivated!
This is great advice! Could you talk about how to get in the decluttering habit, like a strategy for daily decluttering or something like that? Thanks for all your help!
I have three washing baskets. One for whites one for colours and one for the kids clothes. Once one is full I will put it in the laundry and hang it out or if it is raining put it in the drier. Once dry, as I take them off the line or out of the drier I will fold it. That way when I get back to the room all you have to do is put them away. Better than getting to the room and realising that you have a whole lot of clothes to fold. Try it, trust me. It just seems a whole lot easier that way.
Along with what you've said above (great tips), I use a melamine scrubber to clean out the bathroom sink at night after brushing my teeth. I'm the last one to be, so it's clean in the morning.
I make my bed every day as soon as I get up, but I don't use a top sheet so it's fast. We shower at night, and I buy a bed cover that can be washed regularly. I put my clothes away every night or fold jeans and set them on the counter if I plan to re wear them. I would like to get my teens to keep their stuff in their own rooms, that way I can just shut their doors, and presto instant clean :)
My wife is a neat freak :) she always washes the dishes after each meal, makes the beds every day and takes out the garbage about once a day, cleans up as she's cooking :) she cleans while the kids are playing. I call her the plow while it's still snowing outside :)
I love your videos! I have daily cleaning activities I do each week. Bathrooms Monday, bedding Saturday, etc. What is the tile on your kitchen backsplash?
Hey, just found your page. And wanted to say, the one habit I can't live without is Cleaning WITHOUT MUSIC. I always keep a radio around and that makes things go faster. You're, lets say, enjoying the time. But it's not like I'm going to clean to just listen to music. Plus, I can't seem to change my songs w/o the radio. TY
I like to vacuum every day, not only do the floors stay crumb free but it also gets me to pick up all the odds and ends off the floor and put back in their place.
I'm terrible at putting my clothes away 😩 I keep telling myself I'll get to it later but I end up with a huge pile on the floor and dresser... More videos like these please!! Thanks!
I would like to see a video on how often do you suppose to vacuum your carpet in your house. And a good remedy for removing hard deep down stains out of the carpet after you have decluttered a space in your house.
You have such great ideas....very logical....very practical....very inexpensive to do. Martha Stewart had neat ideas but I seem to recall they were expensive. Enjoyed this video. Take care Melissa....I'm looking forward to what you are going to cook up for we subbies next.
I would love to see how that front entry closet is organized to help you guys keep things clean! My area is so small and we don't have a closet.... I wish I could post a picture!! It's a 50s Ranch and there is so little storage space!
unfortunately, I am a cluttery person. not dirty by any means but a touch cluttery. One thing I do religiously however is make my bed every day. I cannot stand climbing into an unmade bed. Enjoyed this video.
Love your videos! I watch your channel religiously. Would you be able to do a video about cleaning showers? I have really been struggling with my moldy grout. Thanks!
What I do: Make bed, clean the sink, sweep the floor and do the laundry everyday so it is not a pile. The most important cleaning habit that I have it is to meditate.....clean mind vibrate and create a clean space 💗🙏🏻
hi i have started to watch ur videos may be a month before. I have addicted to watch it every night now.love ur cleaning tips and ur videos are really encouraging me to clean my space.A quick question how to clean sandwich presser? ?,
I have an all-purpos cleaner in a big spray-bottle standing in the place in my house where I see it and can grab it very quickly. And that makes it so much easier to whipedown everything as soon as it's dirty. :)
If it takes less than 90 seconds-just do it. (Put your coat in the closet, put the mail in the proper spot, take the garbage out) 90 seconds now versus a whole morning of cleaning or sorting later.
I take my shoes off at the front door and put on slippers. I love the idea of putting a hanging shoe bag in the coat closet. But that would mean removing lots of coats! I'll seriously think about it since it's such a great solution to the shoes piling up.
Hi Melissa! We live far from both sides of our family so we have house guests every other month or so. I find that when people are here, even if the house was clean before they arrived, the house turns into a total disaster within hours-- clutter, dishes, etc. and I can't keep up. Part of it is that neither side of our family is particularly good at cleaning up after themselves, but I wonder if you have advice on maintaining a clean home while guests are visiting without spending their entire visit creeping behind them with a vacuum.
Ok I just saw a video in Facebook on the best way of clean your pan and I was thinking you can give it a try and report back lol. Put dish soap and a cup of water on the pan then put inside a dryer sheet . Let it seat for 1 hour and drain . Then remove the dryer sheet and just wipe and rinse.
I make my bed after my shower. That gives it a little time to air out and dry out. Makes the bedroom look nicer and it's easier to sleep on smooth sheets in a neat bed. Plus pulling a bedspread over the bed keeps it cleaner when you have pets.
It's not a habit but as much as possible I've set my up to work with my habits. My purse has it's home in my home office. Why? Because that's where it ends up whether it has a designated spot in there or not. So, I finally put up a hook behind my to hang my purse on. I think recognizing which habits you should break and which ones you can make work for you is a good first step. If your entry is set up to handle you coming in the door dropping whatever you have in your hands, taking off your coat & shoes etc. the entry isn't going to get so out of control it's overwhelming to deal with when it gets a bit messy. An entry not set up to handle these same habits is going to rapidly become a nightmare. A habit I've gotten in to is that I try to leave a room better than when I entered it. This has the biggest impact and is easiest in the rooms you spend the most time in.
I actually never do my bed, whenever I do my bed I get really freaky over how the blanket and bed sheets and stuff are not perfect, and it is just not good loo
This might be just because l live in the south, but i got rid of my flat sheet all together. l have a thin blanket I (might) sleep under. Making my bed in the morning is basically straightening the fitted sheet, folding the blanket, laying it on the foot of the bed, and going.
I always make my bed, hoover the house every 2 days, do the washing machine regularly, try to keep the house tidy and leave kitchen counter and dining table free from clutter.
One thing I like to do is after I give my boys a bath together they like to play a while in the water. So I use that time to clean their toilet and the floors and your wave system.
My habit, which I've only taken on in the last 2 years, imparted to me by my mother-in-law: wash the dishes as I am cooking. No, it's not always possible, depending on what you're cooking, but even just a minute here and there of dish washing while something simmers makes a HUGE difference!
i used to never do my bed just because i was lazy but it takes me literally a minute! now i do and it makes me SOOO HAPPY!

agree too👌
me too! I cannot start my day until I get the bed looking neat lol
My sister and husband started a great habit which has lasted over 30 years now: 'the last one out of bed, makes the bed!!!!!! Very cute!
yes, get up, open window, fresh air, aired bedding, meanwhile morning bathroom stuff. When finished - make bed and off to work :-)

I absolutely love your new video format. Incorporating your husband was very nice. He is a wonderful and supportive man. Keep up the great work!!
I love your ideas a lot. I am a clean freak but I must admit that your videos helped me keep the house spot on 24*7 at ease. Thanks a lot. !
I do all of these and they really do work...I'm a recovering slob and each of these really do make for a cleaner home and it takes less time to clean on clean up days.
i always make my bed. that way, the bedroom looks great. it only takes one minute.
so worth the effort.
I feel pretty good about myself right now cus I do everything she mentioned lol. glad my momma raised me the way she did!
making the bed looks nice.
This is so great. So many of these habits weren't taught to me by my parents. So helpful.
Every room has a decorative waste basket in it. Every Thursday afternoon we empty them all at once because Friday morning is garbage day.
Queen of Clean, I'm using your 10 at a time. Thanks!!!LOVE y'all.
Where can I buy that organizer for the shoes in your closet?
I call her the plow while it's still snowing outside :)
love all your videos!!!!
I love the way you well organised
I'm terrible at putting my clothes away 😩 I keep telling myself I'll get to it later but I end up with a huge pile on the floor and dresser... More videos like these please!! Thanks!
I totally agree with you about the bed. Makes such a difference. I do all of your ideas except that shoe thing. Yeah, shoes piled on the floor. Yuk
Your bedroom furniture is soo beautiful, where did you get them from?
I would love to see how that front entry closet is organized to help you guys keep things clean! My area is so small and we don't have a closet.... I wish I could post a picture!! It's a 50s Ranch and there is so little storage space!
Melissa what do you clean your kitchen garbage can with and the outside garbage can with? My outside garbage can should be burned. lol
I keep 2 bins in the shoe closet. 1 for dirty and 1 has clean socks. this way dirty socks have a place and it easy to find when I'm doing laundry.
Sometime I get a funky smell in my room 95% water 5% vanilla extract WONDERFUL
Have a designated spot for every thing and put it there. Pretend you live on a boat 🚣.
unfortunately, I am a cluttery person. not dirty by any means but a touch cluttery. One thing I do religiously however is make my bed every day. I cannot stand climbing into an unmade bed. Enjoyed this video.
cleaning my kitchen before bed is huge! I wake up to a clean kitchen every morning. Ahhh!
Love your videos! I watch your channel religiously. Would you be able to do a video about cleaning showers? I have really been struggling with my moldy grout. Thanks!
Yay! The microfiber cloths are baaaaaaaack!!
What I do: Make bed, clean the sink, sweep the floor and do the laundry everyday so it is not a pile. The most important cleaning habit that I have it is to meditate.....clean mind vibrate and create a clean space 💗🙏🏻
I like it when you made a comparison between diet and cleaning habits
Patiently waiting for your microfiber towels 😁. Great tips thank you Clean my Space Team! I appreciate all of your hard work.
hi i have started to watch ur videos may be a month before. I have addicted to watch it every night now.love ur cleaning tips and ur videos are really encouraging me to clean my space.A quick question how to clean sandwich presser? ?,
Stay happy, Good girl genuine
I have an all-purpos cleaner in a big spray-bottle standing in the place in my house where I see it and can grab it very quickly. And that makes it so much easier to whipedown everything as soon as it's dirty. :)
Bed made every day! Your microfiber cloths are awesome!
What habits would you like to implement into your life?
hi
The 'clean as you go' habit, still terrible at that...
If it takes less than 90 seconds-just do it. (Put your coat in the closet, put the mail in the proper spot, take the garbage out) 90 seconds now versus a whole morning of cleaning or sorting later.
+Sarena Smith Also, making the bed every day? Absolutely.
I take my shoes off at the front door and put on slippers. I love the idea of putting a hanging shoe bag in the coat closet. But that would mean removing lots of coats! I'll seriously think about it since it's such a great solution to the shoes piling up.
Great tips, thank you. Why do more and more vloggers now talk like tv presenters?
Hi Melissa! We live far from both sides of our family so we have house guests every other month or so. I find that when people are here, even if the house was clean before they arrived, the house turns into a total disaster within hours-- clutter, dishes, etc. and I can't keep up. Part of it is that neither side of our family is particularly good at cleaning up after themselves, but I wonder if you have advice on maintaining a clean home while guests are visiting without spending their entire visit creeping behind them with a vacuum.
cheeky would be visit them more often and let them have a taste of what you are going through :-)
years ago a woman told me "If I don't make my bed in the morning I feel like it's following me around all day"" yup...
I really do enjoy your videos. Thank you.
I always put stuff away I hate clutter but you give great tips thank you
I make my bed after my shower.
Where did you buy your closer shoe holder...thanks for all your tips.
thanks for the video.suggestions for mess teens please
love the back splash in the kitchen? what and where can I find it?
I love morning routine and evening routine habits. 💕🌵
i love all ur tips!! i struggle with the tiny things that mess up my home especially with 2 kids and u tackled all the bad habits i have 😔🤗🤗
Do I make my bed? Definitely! I have a murphy bed. It's hard to put it away unless it's made and there's very little floor space if it's not put away.
I've made my beds everyday for over 40 years. I like everything in its place so when I get up it's clean
I actually never do my bed, whenever I do my bed I get really freaky over how the blanket and bed sheets and stuff are not perfect, and it is just not good loo
I am exactly the same way with my bed! It can be a struggle
+Bobbie Tarr An opportunity to practice, LOL!
This might be just because l live in the south, but i got rid of my flat sheet all together. l have a thin blanket I (might) sleep under. Making my bed in the morning is basically straightening the fitted sheet, folding the blanket, laying it on the foot of the bed, and going.
practice losing my mind because it isn't perfect maybe lol that is a struggle. Hospital corner or military made, I've had few tell me I am to anal lol
Brittany Love same here! I also live in the South, so maybe thats it.
I always make my bed, hoover the house every 2 days, do the washing machine regularly, try to keep the house tidy and leave kitchen counter and dining table free from clutter.
Hi, when is the large space cloth kit going to be available?
Very useful video....thanks
One thing I like to do is after I give my boys a bath together they like to play a while in the water. So I use that time to clean their toilet and the floors and your wave system.
Where did you get your bedspread? I love it!!
