      Yeah, Teddy Riley is a genius producer but several Guy songs would have been MUCH better if he would have just left the lead vocals to Aaron. This is one and My Fantasy is another one.

      I 100% agree. I’ve been saying that which seems like forever. I wonder if they had versions of songs with Aaron in the lead which Teddy took over.

      @@alangordon7869 Aaron Coached Teddy vocally thought the songs. I kinda agree but gotta let him sing occasionally. Idk why Damion never sang almost at all till III. He's barely on the future album.

    Teddy made the group. Music is all about the sound first. If you have a good beat, you can have a hit. A voice with no music is just a voice. The beat gets your attention first, then you listen to the lyrics. Long live Teddy Riley and the New Jack Swing!

      Dolce Gabbana Guy is certainly one of the best R&B groups, but not the best ever-that honor belongs to Earth, Wind & Fire.
      However, I think it’s safe to say that Guy is one the same level as the Gap Band, given they were heavily inspired by them. Aaron Hall was Uncle Charlie Wilson 2.0.

  • @QuabmasM
    @QuabmasM 4 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Bobby Brown & MC Hammer both took heavy notes from Teddy Riley during these Guy years. Their iconic era was merely a child of ideas that came out of Teddy Riley's head & the contributors who gave Guy this specific visual look.
    I think Teddy's biggest problem was having so many creative ideas that he never stopped to fully own & stylistically master the art of the very styles & trends that started with him. He allowed for the culture to piggy back & create whole legacies under his trail blazed paths he barely ate off of himself.
    He gave a whole new iconic MJ sound to MJ that stuck with him til death. Technically, we shouldve gotten way more mostly Teddy Riley produced MJ albums. Darkchild was a nice addition to the MJ producer team but other than Quincy Jones, nobody gave MJ a "sound" like Teddy did.
    You even got cats who worked under Teddy like P Diddy who are years later quoted saying "I invented the remix" when just listening to this mix of this song let alone the other multiple mixes of Teddy Riley's songs, you quickly find Teddy was on it first.

      @QuabmasM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Break0fdawn I know, & they changed up their looks & musical styles AFTER Guy came out. Keep in mind My Prerogative was a Guy song that didnt make their first album so Teddy gave it to Bobby who didnt want to sing it like Aaron did on the demo but after doing so dude kept trying to sing more that way over new jack style beats. MC Hammer too didnt debut w/ the intense visual look until Guy did. I know folk were flashy in the 80s but Guy took it to another level & Hammer made it his shtick AFTER they originated the look he "borrowed".

    • @alexhaynes6649
      @alexhaynes6649 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well dam. That pretty much summed everything up. Nailed it. Cuz i wuz watchin the Bobby Brown movie bout a year ago. And i didn't even kno Teddy Riley produced my prerogative. That song and sound basically allowed Bobby to reinvent himself. It gave him a whole identity. And again the sound wuz fresh af. That song still sounds jus as good today as it did back then

      I was bumping this on my iPod 😊, so I decided to look up the lyrics on Loogle and I'm like that's not what I'm listening to! Here I thought this was the original because it's on their collection cd.

      Agreed , I found the version on the Album slightly flat compared to the mixes on the 12' vinyl, this version was specially adapted for this video and doesn't seem to appear on the 12; vinyls or the CD single, it is an edited version of one of the mixes on the 12' promo vinyl.

      Geron Jenkins couldnt you just picture MJ playing this song and dancing to it. I always wondered not only what songs did he like of other artists, but i always wanted to see MJ or clips of MJ out grooving to other artists tracks. Its definitely one of my all time favorites. Brings back great memories from the New Jack Swing era for me. And I was a kid then. With an affinity for music. Everything from Metallica to Madonna. From Prince to Guy. MTV VH1 and BET had a major influence on me.

      Darius Slaw He probally had some different moves for this song. I didn't know too much about what MJ listened to but I also heard that Michael Jackson loved Heavy D. Teddy said this when he was working the Dangerous album. He said that is the reason why he is performing on Jam.

      Michael actually said that he wanted a song as 'hard' as this one. And Teddy came out with "Why Wanna Trip On Me", which was titled 'Stop Trippin' (refering to Michael 'tripping' at him for a song) at the time he showed the song to Michael. We can also hear some similarities between those two songs. :P

    Oh my goodness I haven't heard this song in years. I was thinking about why my friends and I were so skinny back in the day. It's because we danced our butts off. Back then everyone did the running man, roger rabbit or whatever on every song. Everyone used to leave the dance floor sweating. Good times!
