I never found any book which says the term hindu defined in article 25 of the constitution. Though the supreme court interpretated hindu as 'way of life' in some cases. Family laws which applies to hindu's are also applicable to Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains etc. This doesn't mean that they are hindu, it only explains than our legislature is so lazy that they don't want make law for convenience of people.

This Neo charvaka guy is so desperate to include everyone in hindu religion. Most of the religious scriptures of Hindus existed after shankaracharya. The oldest manuscript of Vedas was from 14th century. I don't know why he is associating himself with charvaka I am sure that he can't even prove the existence of charvaka. He should to reed a lot rather than making vague argument that he can't prove.

      After shankara?
Did Mahabharata also existed after shankara?
Because Shankaracharya was the first acharya to take bhagavd gita our of Mahabharata and write commentary on It
      And
      Mahabharata explicitly mentions about Vedas
Did Brahma sutras started to exist after shankara?
      We don't have sankhya Sutra
It is destroyed and so are the Vedas
They are destroyed majority of them

It's very important for people to understand the term Hindu. It has become some sort of fuzzy concept. It is used interchangeably as per wish.
When one points out the term Hindu as non religious and the concept of religious brotherhood didn't exist in the past in India, right wingers vehemently denies and says it was always a religion. When one says in the present context that it has become as common as any other religion, right wingers fears people getting away of the hindu fold due to the formation of new thoughts like atheism, etc.
This is a typical age old Brahmanical ideological practice which happened at the time of Budhha too. Buddha who exposed the Brahminical nature of vedas was made another awtar of the God Vishnu so that people don't go on to make new religion and expose the Brahmins. Any offshoot was forcefully given a hindu character thereby maintaining the Hindu caste order.
This happened at the time of independence too. Tribal and Dalits were clubbed under Hindu even when non of the upper castes had any dealings with them. How can one say Dalit/tribal as Hindu if they are denied worshipping through temple entry?
Same is happening with atheism now by saying Hindu is an overarching identity which includes atheism also. As Vimoh said, we don't need a religious overarching identity, we already have one, its Indian.
The fun fact is that the term Hindu would have been irrelevant had the people of India never questioned the caste order or moved away to be part of Abhrahamic religions.

Not only that, Sarna, which is the Religion of the Santhal and Kuduk Tribes have also been declared a Part of Hinduism, while it have nothing in common with Hinduism and can possibly be the Oldest Religion in Practice.

I agree with you, but what you are saying is common to all religions. Have you heard of christianity adopting pagan festivals in order to attract the pagan population…. Also unfortunately casteism also can crop up in any religion, as an example there is ample evidence that casteism was practiced in tibetan buddhism. It is wrong and shouldn’t be followed, but it is followed by those who are not enough secular in their mental outlook… wouldn’t you agree?

Did Vedas exist at the time of Buddha ? In videos of Science Journey/Human With Science etc it is said that Vedas came much later after the Buddha! Can you please clarify because I'm in two minds about it .

@@pallabbiswas2726 Vedas existed much before Budhha who was born around 600BCE while vedas dated around 1000-1500 BCE. May be written form came much later but that doesn't matter. What is important to note that, the Brahminical structure was established much before Budhha's birth. Budhha or Buddhism was perhaps the first major threat to Brahminism.

I often laugh when people say Hinduism has been the most tolerant, flexible, diverse, all encompassing religion compared to others. What people don't see is inspite of all these why the most rigid social structure, the caste order didn't go away. When it comes to caste, it becomes the most intolerant, rigid, restricted religion. You are welcome to have any knid of thought, ideologies whether rational or irrational, as long as it don't disrupt the caste order. Atheistic people wouldn't be of any concern to caste hindus if they continue to maintain caste order.
