What a tremendous performance!!!! Now that is how the Olympic hymn should be sung...The voice is clear, crisp, dramatic, very passionately powerful and enchanting. This is a True Diva who's star will shine brightly for years to come. Brava Madam!!!
Breathtaking - As I watched Anna Netrebko do it tonight in Sochi - she was wonderful - but this is the standard by which all others should be judged. WOW
I just found you Measha, and I am so glad that I have! I am so glad that Canada's musical tradition will be remembered for more than Justin Bieber! Thank you, Measha. You make music live! Vive la musique!
This is so inspiring. It makes you just want to stand up and do anything for your country. This is an amazing display of nationalism! I am only eighteen, and I've been fortunate enough to have caught a shadow of the emotions my grandparents must have felt when they were younger.
@superkila24 I remember her as a wonderful, gifted young woman with grace, talent and a great future. No, everybody didn't hate her. Lots of us loved her!
I didn't expect that they sing it in Greek, since English is lingua franca, but they didn't sing it at all and also there was missing a part of the melody, too!
@celloswiss Yes, I couldn't say it any better. People seem to think that the louder and the more vibrato, the better. But too much of a medicine is poison.
It was a dissappointment that such a powerful performance, was met by such a gastly accoustic. One would have to be tone deaf not to hear that everything in this performance sounded terribly flat. Measha is a giant.
She's lost a ton of weight since I first saw her un-amplified in a tiny little auditorium a decade ago - her dress was barely hanging on, but despite that, it was obvious then she was going somewhere.
Oversung, overacted, and conducted too slowly. The English translation completely changes the words. It must always be sung in the original Greek and by a CHORUS, not an individual singer, as it was sung in Moscow 1980, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
That was NOT the olympic hymn. That was just another cultural crime of those who see only the fiesta out of the noble olympic spirit and let that unbelievable chick show off on a sad moment of humanity.

flawless. even watching the openings to London and Sochi, my mind always escapes to this version of the hymn

I had hoped she would do this and when she did I was crying my eyes out

i am totally speechless. wow. oh wow.
She's incredible. Also, when she hits the higher notes, it looks like she's about to explode!

This makes me proud to be a Canadian.
She gets an eternal pass from me due to her performance in "The rise and fall of the city of Mahogany" back in 2010
@RebornGuitarLearner lol, ok fair enough, the anthem was pretty awesome

@RebornGuitarLearner BAHAHAHAHA "It makes you just want to stand up and do anything for your country." ...
She's lost a ton of weight since I first saw her un-amplified in a tiny little auditorium a decade ago - her dress was barely hanging on, but despite that, it was obvious then she was going somewhere.
@critcallydamped Yeah in retrospect that was a pretty dumb thing to say...
But the anthem was so cool to see! I couldn't help it!
At 3:44 I think Bobby Orr is even getting choked up.
Do you have those in the sung version? the one that she sung in Vancouver?
Apart the christian hymns, I think this one is the most beautiful, followed by some others national anthems: Russia, Canada, Brazil, USA, French...
Does anyone know the lyrics/paroles of the French part?
i love the greek better than the english version.
ahah you can find me embarrassing if you want too! I found her embarrassing!
Future Isolde.
Cool President Snow skipped the Hunger Games to come to the Olympics at 1:05
Sydney was able to, even Peking. Far away from Greece.
Your turn.

didn't understand a word,
Sings half a tone flat.
Sounds better in Greek
She's singing flat.
That was NOT the olympic hymn.

Keep it greek and use a choir. Measha was bad. Period.
@philipc67 Couldn't agree more. An inappropriate rendition of the Olympic Anthem and completely overperformed.
This version sucks. Looks more like an opera singing. Munich 72 version is WAAAYYY better
THIS IS A DISGRACE!
SHAME TO THOSE WHO LET THAT HAPPEN!
