The guy in the storm got lucky. I’m from Ankeny Iowa. That Dericho storm produced 140mph straight winds here. Just from the wind blowing everything my boat got totaled and my truck had 9300.00 in damage. Forecasters failed to predict that storm and that was the worst one I’ve ever been in.

That's a new one on me. I guess I'll have to travel to Iowa to check out that 80' Suzuki GS500. Maybe Iowa is the only place one currently exists. For forty years I was of the belief Suzuki only made the GS 4-cyclinder line in a 450 twin, a 550, a 750 and a 1000 back then. Now I find out they also made a 500. In fact, it was produced for four model years. Uh, learn something new everyday. Wish I had known this back when I had my GS550E model. I would have loved to add the second front brake rotor and caliber. The would have improved the braking on my bike by a long shot. The stopping power on the 550E was not so great. Ride wasn't bad. Bike handled the twisties fairly well after a few minor upgrades, i.e, heavier fork oll, a spacer or two added to the tops of the fork tubes and aftermarket shocks made a big difference, along with sticky tires). But those brakes who sometimes draw my b-hole up so tight the pucker marks on the seat was visible for weeks afterward. Definitely needs better brakes. Eventually, I swapped the front end off a similar year GS 750 and that solved the problem. Would have been much cheaper to simply buy a fork lower tube, a rotor, caliber, master cylinder and the necessary brake lines. Those parts would have cost me a lot less than adapting a different front end and making it all work. Yep, learn something new everyday.
