This was very good and I solved several doubts with this video. I really like the simplified technical approach you take on the subject and I really felt that modern stainless steel knives are harder to sharpen on synthetic ceramic stones than old carbon steel ones. Here where I live, the use of straight razors is very restricted also because there is not a good supply of fine stones (above 1k) and the importation of these "Arkansas" are very complicated and expensive. Thank you very much!
I use glycerin and water on my Arks as well. Acts like oil but without the mess! the last 50 strokes per bevel, I use dish soap and water with light pressure. A trick my father taught me 40-some-odd years ago. Leaves a very crisp edge...and cleans the stone at the same time.
I’ve got three Arkansas finishing stones, a translucent, surgical black, and a True Hard from Dan’s Whetstone in US. I hone much like you, Joseph, and all three stones perform about the same, which is to say very well.
Evening, Joseph, your hanging hair test is the same as mine, I don't like to offer the blade a short hair that offers to much resistance, like you a good inch or more with very little pressure, good video.
Great stones. However, the condition of the last stone is very poor; it was dropped during processing and has internal fractures. Why do you need such a large size? Is it really convenient to use?
what a stunning set of arcs mate . somehow i feel that’s going to be a get edge . got to say never seen it done like that at the end very interesting is that the same guy n the black
@@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors thank you my friend . have been thinking about getting an arc but not been really sure about the best way to get a blade across one
Not boring at all I've been having trouble with setting a bevel you teach I watch
I hope it helps..Thank you.

I am glad some people find my videos useful.
All the best

I have a Dans Whetstone black Arkansas stone that gives fantastic edges. You can burnish them too if you like. Thanks for the video.
Hi Matt,
Sounds good. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beautiful stones and interesting instructional video
Thanks Roy,
It is a crime to keep them locked away :)

Hi Jamie,
That HHT had a loud pinging noise but the mic didn't pick it up..
Cheers
Can't have enough honing vids. Cheers. I was supposed to hone a W&B rattler today but didn't get time.
My pleasure, I am just happy that I had a productive day. Time should not be wasted :)
Thanks T

Hi Beibit,
I do not need such large stones but that is how they cut them. They are not convenient nor inconvenient.
They are huge :)

Hi Paul,
Are you asking if they perform the same? Both Blacks & Translucent seem to do the same thing as far as I can tell.
Many thanks
@@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors i mean with the honing at the end the fast back and forward strokes do you do the same on the black
I do :)
